Wenger plays down Podolski’s unrest

Arsene Wenger has dismissed stories about Lukas Podolski’s unhappiness at not playing much this season, and insisted the German is fully ‘on board’ with the team’s efforts this season.

The #Instagram #Hash #Guru has only made just one start and had three substitute appearances so far in this campaign and this week told RTL that if the situation didn’t change he’d have to consider moving on.

However, when it was put to him at his press conference today, the Arsenal manager said, “It is quite simple – there is no transfer market at the moment. When there is no transfer market, you are all on board or not on board. It is like that.

“This is a job where you can only be successful if you’re fully committed. You cannot be half in and half out, so all this transfer speculation is not considered at all.

“We are all on board to have a result on Sunday and Podolski will be part of that.”

Elsewhere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says he’s hoping to do better on his second appearance at Stamford Bridge than his first. Last season The Ox escaped a red card and was part of the team beaten 6-0.

This time around though, he’s determined to play his part in a big Arsenal result.

“It’s a great stadium and it’s another great fixture,” he said. “It’s one that we’ll really be looking forward to. Chelsea are the league leaders at the moment and one of the favourites to win the title this season.

“They are big competition to us so we’ll be looking to go there and make a statement early on in the season. I definitely believe we can.”

“We are all on board to have a result on Sunday and Podolski will be part of that.”

Please please adapt your tactics for this game. Let’s not have a repeat of last year’s game.

DR

Pretty sure ‘pass the ball to Chelsea’ wasn’t our intended tactic last time.

Maniac

I think he means not leaving two CBs against an attacking trio while our full-backs are committed in the final third.

Highberry

I like the Arsenal Gent’s last statement “Sunday at the Bridge will be a breeze” COY beautiful Gunners

Con

Park the bus. 11 men behind the ball, play for a draw. Horrible thing to say, but what else can you do huh…

If we lose, we’ll be 9 points behind that nasty bunch of subhumans already.

David

Play a little safer please. No shame in sitting back, absorbing pressure, and hitting them on the counter-attack with Welbeck and Sanchez up front. Don’t leave our back 4 isolated on too many 1-on-1s.

COYG!!!

AS17 is for A.Sanchez not A.song

please you saw what Arsenal of this season is capable of! we outplayed city in those 30 minutes before they scored. came back and took the lead before they equalised. The arsenal of last season couldn’t have done that. Man city were very much happy with that point. yet they (city) outplayed chelsea and were abit unlucky with that draw. so this Arsenal team isn’t afraid of anybody! Man city, Chelsea or going a goal down cause we longer give up easily. The word for sunday is BELIEVE. that’s what I will remind you all about

o2ba

Knpwingaureen she will.park that old bus and try countering us. Hopefully we can counter their counter and hope for tears from that cunt Terry.

o2ba

Mis spelling lol knowing maureen.

Mark Hughes

You also misspelled misspelling….

DöubleDöubleDöuble

Misspelt.

TommyGun

I am on board.

UnByeUsGoner

I can see us getting slaughtered 4-0.. We don’t have the testicular fortitude to do it. Costa hatrick, customary Drog goal & 3 fantastic assists. Matic could eat our midfield and probably will. Ozil will probably be deployed out on the left and a high line and zonal marking off corners may prove to be our downfall as they completely smash us on the break.

You may downvote me but my view is consistent with previous results against the league league leading, premier league favourites. Would love to be wrong.

gunn cabinet

actually, i want to downvote you 4x

Arsepedant

Clear your cache and cookies, and downvote him again.

Mark Hughes

I have a feeling that you like the word league or words starting with lea….

Also, “zonal marking off corners may prove to be our downfall as they completely smash us on the break”? If we are zonal marking a corner and at the same time Chelsea are counter-attacking then we really do need to look at our tactics as our players don’t seem to understand what’s going on.

TeeCee

Er, surely if we were marking for a corner and were playing Chelsea, then at the same time Chelsea would be taking a corner rather than counterattacking?

Highberry

Poster you are playing with my brain. Can’t you choose another name PLEASE? Agreeing with Mark Hughes is just wrong…and I reckon you’re right…..

DR

It’s also consistent with what Sky Sports say, coincidence?

TOGooner

Certainly has the understanding of zonal marking that is commonplace at SkySports.

Scott P

Your view is consistent with the many pundits for whom the less said, the better.

Julian gooner

go post this on a chelski blog, foh with that

Meh, I couldn’t be fussed whether he stays or leaves. Some things just don’t work out, and Lukas as an Arsenal player just hasn’t worked out. He doesn’t work hard enough to play on the flank, and he doesn’t work out to well through the middle either.

With regards to Chelsea, what we need to avoid is conceding within 15 seconds of kick off. So long as we can stop them from scoring, I’m confident of getting a victory because of our power and pace on the counter attack.

Mark Hughes

This “It is quite simple – there is no transfer market at the moment. When there is no transfer market, you are all on board or not on board. It is like that.” seems like the biggest fuck you to any players that feel like they want to bitch and moan. I’ve read it as a ‘pull your socks up and do your job’ type thing.

I always like testy Arsene, he’s quite good at sass.

Rambozil

Wasn’t looking forward to the Bridge after Saturdays performance but the midweek game has rejuvenated my hope. I can only hope le prof plays Ozil in the middle with sanchez n the Ox on both sides. Jack behind alongside [who knows] and its game on.

AS17 is for A.Sanchez not A.song

what stadium? that bridge which isn’t even a bridge! its us with the bridge next to our stadium. welcome to the real great stadium

There is really no need to repeat yourself, we were on board the 1st time 🙂

Kinda off buh… “I don’t think Wayne Rooney’s tackle on Stewart Downing was the kind that hurts an opposing player,” Scholes wrote in theLondon Evening Standard. “From what I could see of it, Wayne tried to trip him and ended up catching him higher up the leg than he had intended. It was the position on the pitch that puzzled me. It was not as if Downing was in on goal. “In recent years I think he’s been too nice to opponents. You see him helping players up after challenges. He’s better when he’s nastier. That was the way he… Read more »

I dont care what tactics we deploy or who plays where…we should go to the bridge and return with a point or three points…its not too much to ask for

Strevs

Dear Mr Ox. It’s not a “great stadium”, it’s Stamford bridge, a place for cunts and turds alike. Personally id like it turned it to a place for racist, money grabbing, or banging your teammates missus whilst she’s pregnant centre… What’s the name for that? The Ashley cunt terry cunt centre of cuntness!

I hate chelski so much!!

Forfuckssake

I would love to see a fit Diaby start this game but cant see him ready for 90 minutes. I guess Wenger will stick with same starting line on wednesday. Which to be fair looked decent when we got in front but would be risky to play the same system against a better team. Flamini is too much a liability (slow, bad tackles, passing accuracy)to start as much as I love him. This is surely the game we need the world class DM we all been crying out for all summer. The next viable option is the Coq and being… Read more »

I would prefer the team that started against Galatasaray, simply because it worked so well, but I’m fairly certain Wenger will squeeze in Wilshere somewhere. He just loves squeezing in Wilshere.

kebabsmasher

If pre season you were asked costa or welbeck i think most would say costa…. Ask now and it must be Dannyboy!! Hes got it. Costa is just a shit Eduardo!! SMASH THE CHAVS!!

Forfuckssake

Kebabsmasher what a naughty name

Dan d

Personally I wouldn’t play Wilshere on Sunday and would line up with Flamini and Chamberlain, flanked by Cazorla and Sanchez with Ozil just behind Welbeck. Chamberlin has pace, power, an engine and can tackle, and his best position for me is Centre Midfield. I still remain slightly unconvinced by Wilshere thus far, which I appreciate in most Gooners minds is like commiting treason but just feel Ox’s physical power will be needed in this game through the middle. For me our most fluid performances this season thus far have been without Wilshere starting and while I think he had the… Read more »

And always has been- “stamford bridge is falling down poor(?) old chavski.

Fatgooner

It won’t be a repeat of the thrashing we had last season, but I can’t see us winning. I’d take the draw right now.

And I bet you that Cesc scores. I can just see it.

dexterthebear

Can anyone recommend a streaming website that works on the ipad? Thanks

Don Cazorleone

It’s on sky sports 1 right? Maybe try downloading an app called Sky Sports Mobile TV, I have it on my iPhone. you pay like £5.99 a month or something but you get all the sky sports channels live.

If not maybe try SkyGo? but you will need someone with an active sky account to give you their details.

If all else fails, head to the pub!

fuhgetaboudit

We need to focus on defense first. Maureen will be hoping we want to play a flashy passing game like we usually like to do and then they will counter. We are a different team this year. With the pace and power of Welbeck and Sanchez we are primed to be a countering team. We need to sit back too and don’t press hard up front. Then we will get our chance foe Welbeck and or Sanchez can break through especially if Ozil is placed in the middle where he can feed them both. We need to be patient and… Read more »

fuhgetaboudit

Keep in mind last year we were not as mobile and powerful. With Giroud in the front we were oiwerful but slow and lacked pace to keep them honest in their own zone.

righققق

turn on the engine… smash them cunt ass

Forfuckssake

Unfortunately loving someone means they can return to hurt you, but we know who she is and we have not to worry about her as we are in the company of world cup winner who has proven experience at the highest level. He is the proper deal just ask Ronaldo. Cesc was good but she was never going to be committed to us and she has decided to get her back doors smashed in by chavs. End of. Now thumbs up if you think she is a slag?

FiremanSam

@AS17 I’m with you

I’m not scared of Chavski.

We are a v different team this year.

Bring it on.
