Having scored 4 goals in his last 2 matches, and 10 in his last 12, it’s obvious that Alexis Sanchez is Arsenal’s man of the moment.
And the Chilean’s goalscoring exploits have been lauded by Arsene Wenger who has pointed to the impact his goals have had on games. Six of his ten strikes have been the opening goal of the game, with others sealing a win – and he was unlucky not to have scored the winner against Man City too.
Speaking after the Burnley game, the Arsenal manager paid tribute to his £30m summer signing,
“He finds the resources to get you a goal when it’s 0-0, that’s what is important. It’s always very interesting when you look at the number of goals people score – how many times do they score at 0-0? They’re the guys who can really make the difference.
“He’s already had a lot of decisive goals and he doesn’t score when it’s 4-0, he scores when it’s 0-0.”
Not only are his goals so valuable, but he’s started scoring immediately on his arrival at a new club. Even greats like Henry and Bergkamp took some time to find the net, and for Wenger it’s down to the attitude of the former Barcelona man.
“I don’t judge them for at least six months. Alexis struggled at the start to deal with the commitment but now he is more confident because he scores goals and he speaks the language much better.
“Let’s not forget that he has been in Europe before, having come from South America. He’s been at Udinese and Barcelona where you play under pressure every week. That helps get him to the level you need to cope with England.
“He’s keen – every day he wants to go out and practice. He’s unbelievably keen to develop, work and practice – he just loves football.”
Meanwhile, the stat below shows just how good Alexis’ start to his Arsenal career has been:
Most goals in the first 9 league games with Arsenal under Wenger: Alexis (7), Arshavin (6), Suker (5).

That’s an interesting stat, and I’m sure Alexis will go on to score many more goals than the other two on the list. One of the best signings ever for Wenger.
I’m so fucking happy we have him. Hope that he’ll have a positive impact in terms of helping those around him play better too. I think I’ve seen signs of that. Welbeck, for instance seemed really keen on closing down opposition defenders in and around the box. His constant harassing causes the opposition to make mistakes or play less optimal passes. We’ve had a number of chances that originated from our aggressive pressing vs Burnley.
Alexis Sanchez will prove to be the best way money should be spent
Over Alexis Texas??
Il take my coat
We look forward to Alexis staying for many years at the club, where he’s already so welcome, and becoming a true Arsenal legend.
How many likely candidates for legendary status do we have at the club at the moment? Quite a few, I’d say. Walcott, Wilshere, Ramsey, Mertesacker and Koscielny, Özil probably, and then who knows? Gibbs, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Szczesny, Cazorla, perhaps Welbeck and Giroud… We are very fortunate.
To be honest, we haven’t had that many 4-0 where he could have scored, but I bet he would do it even at 6-0
Don’t like to get ahead of ourselves, but my God he’s good.
@ clock End: do you have something against Rosicky? c’mon, you could do better than that.
Love this man.
He is a fireball, a footballing samurai. Chelsea put Ivanovic to mark him constantly in that game. That shows even Mourinho knew about his capability and threat. C’mon Alexis, C’mon Gunners! 2 more wins this week and we’ll be up there in both tables (ECL & BPL)
This man is immense. Has all the good parts of Suarez, without the big goofy teeth. We need to show that we are worthy of him and that means consistency and more goals from midfield.
He’s more of a soloist at the moment. He is leading us with pure talent and determination.
When he’ll develop a better understanding with the team, we will be unstoppable.
Let’s hope he stays fit though he doesn’t appear injury-prone. If fit, he can have a ‘Suarez effect’ on our season.
One point though; he must be managed properly since there is no winter break in England as he enjoyed in Spain.
Sometimes watching the great man gives me a hard-on.
Sorry.
Just felt I should let you all know.
he is the best.
Efficient? Nah.the guy is a bloody genius and what a load of energy! I only hope Wilshere and the ox can emulate his fighting spirit. I nearly got banned from my pub the other day for saying that he’s as good as suarez but doesn’t bite and with better teeth and haircut.
Those stats dont mean a thing. It’s interesting to note that Suker and Arshavin turned out to be colossal flops!
