Ok, the win was pretty late but you know what’s worse than a pretty late win? Having your balls scalded with hot tea then being set upon by rabid otters.
Thankfully, that didn’t happen and we just won the game, but here are the ratings. Feel free to add your own and your comments below.
Turtle’s tail…wahahahaha!
i always thought it was “turtle neck” as it seems to describe the motion of a small saussage of poo passing the sphincter and then retracting, like a turtle’s head/neck coming out of the shell. but hey, details… 😉
i guess the tail retracts as well, coming to think of it… hm… i need to ponder.
Great to have Giroud back, made a real difference.
Alexis will rule Emirates just like Henry ruled Highbury. Some players are destined to be great and remembered forever. Arsenal is the perfect club for Alexis.
As a former player Ian Wright should be lauding the heroics of Arsenal’s star signing, and the collective spirit of the team. Instead he rants on and on about “Arsenal don’t deserve Sanchez”, “He deserves better”, “He’ll want to leave after just one season” bullocks. Even Thierry Henry was critical when the players ‘celebrated’ securing 4th place at Newcastle two seasons ago, but the criticism was worded carefully with the aim of taking the club to the next level. Ian Wright (IF you have the interests of the club in mind as opposed to some vested interest to attack it),… Read more »
What is ian wright’s problem. Is it because he was never given a statue outside the stadium. Does someone have an answer his disturbing comments against the club ve always left me wondering.
Merse isn’t as bad he moans about the players but always says good things about the club. Plus he is bloody funny to watch.
Merse left on bad terms, didn’t get the contract he wanted from AW, so its not a surprise that he is continually bitter and openly critical of Wenger. Terrible analyst anyway.
What Wrighty’s problem could be, I’ve no idea. He had an amazing career at the club, he was great for us and we were great for him. Would be a shame if its because he doesn’t think he gets the recognition he deserves. I don’t think the club owes him much.
Great to be back winning regularly again. A couple of points regarding Danny Welbeck. I was told this by some of my Utd supporting friends who have been watching him for years and now I can see myself. 1. He has unbelievably poor foot-eye coordination for a professional footballer. 2. He is almost incapable of judging flight of a football when its in the air. He rarely gets a true connection with the ball, and most of his goals seem to be miss hits. Its always either off the chin or the ankle or he somehow bundles it in. Don’t… Read more »
Looks like all his goals for Arsenal and England make a shower of shite out of your friend’s ‘observations”.
All his goals for Arsenal? He’s scored three goals in the league… Don’t give me this shit about CL goals.. in order for Arsenal to compete at the highest level, we need a CF that will bang in AT LEAST 20 PL goals a season. That’s a bare minimum. Still don’t think we have that if I’m honest. Welbz has the potential to grow though, and I wouldn’t be as scathing in my analysis as this guy above me.
You have friends who support United? Shame
He has friends???
What is united?
Well, I disagree with all of that. “He is almost incapable of judging flight of a football when its in the air.”, erm his goal last week? The save he forced out of Forster today? Right.
JimmyJames, thank you for bringing some relief to my afternoon, for posting the most ridiculous comment i’ve ever read, ever, anywhere on the internet.
now go watch welbecks goal from the weekend against west brom. i’d say it really brings home your comment or your “friends” comment about him being incapable of judging flight of a football when its in the air.
perhaps you could go and remind your “friend” about some dude called falco and what they got from him, whilst selling welbeck to us.
thanks, and keep up the good work with the comments.
Couldn’t ve said it better myself. U cld add in di maria for all i care.
he can hit the ball in with his ass and I’ll still be happy. Cheer up bro. You can compliment Giroud’s performance without slagging Welbeck.
3 points, remember?
Find new friends. And stop believing lies.
What? You accept sour grapes comments from ManU fans as gospel? You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
Your friend is pissed off they sold Danny Welbeck to us, obviously.
Objectivity check. Welbeck is not clinical. He may become clinical later this season or next season. But he is not clinical. We will get away with his data-proven inefficiency in the EPL especially as we now create 7-8 decent scoring chances per match. Bu I fear, not against the big teams in the CL who may restrict us to max of 2 chances in 90 mins. Then we will pay the price as he is great at getting into good scoring positions but allowing the keeper make saves or shooting off-target seemingly due to slight bad luck. As a winger… Read more »
You’re off your’re chin jimmyjames!
Poldi made a solid impact tonight. I would really like to see him in the starting eleven again soon.
Giroud changed the game tonight, and Ramsey is showing some signs of getting back to the quality of last season. The Ox struggled but he’s still young and occasional off days are natural at any level.
Alexis is easily the signing of the year.
Poldi against Stoke. I hope so…
Hail Kos!
Marriner would be bad at Airport security as well. Nope.
“…so i could adopt him.”
Fucking priceless ‘Blogs!
was it just me or was podolski hugely impressive after coming on? his ball down the inside left to monreal (?)(who messed up the cross) was sumptuous. Having a world cup winner come on and have to prove his worth is quite bizarre given we don’t have anyone challenging Flamini and Ramsey and Chambers and Mertesacker AND koscielny for their spot! That said another 5 wins in a row and who cares eh?
Giroud obviously had a massive impact, but I thought Podolski was great off the bench too. He looked sharp, kept the ball well, got into good positions, and nearly scored. It seems like he and Alexis are the only 2 players in our squad that can consistently create chances for themselves. If only he could defend like Alexis..
Still wondering what Tommy did to AW too, he must be frustrated he can’t get a game. But at least his footballing age will remain the same until he plays again!
a joyous read. what an arsenal win, plus the correct mix of ingested substances, will do for your creative flow 🙂
merited win, but phew, that foster guy was irritatingly good.
Podolski looked hungry when he came on, hopefully see a bit more of him in the next few games
Nah he still looked his half interested self.
Except for the goal, Alexis was pretty bad. He kept loosing the ball cheaply. He clearly need some rest.
Totally agree with you. Take away dribbling unnecessarily and dodgy passing and we will have a maverick of a player on our hands. I could also see it frustrating his team mates when they have to chase the ball again after he ignored an obvious pass and got robbed. At the moment his goal scoring exploits are covering these flaws and am sure this hasn’t escaped Wenger’s eye.
Or….without him we would be below Tottenham in the league. He may have lost the ball but without him taking risks we would have drawn last night.
Thank God for Sanchez
Unless the player that was there instead actually scored the odd goal, then we wouldn’t be down that low.
Alexis doesn´t want to rest, he wants to be the best and he looks up towards comparisons (Ronaldo, Messi) not down. He wants to play and he trains to do so. And regarding the dribling, he has always been that kind of player, in Chile, Argentina, Italy, Spain and England, he doesn´t need to change, he just needs to improve.
He holds on to the ball for way too long. This is something he admitted to himself. He needs to learn to get rid of it faster and trust his team-mates to allow him to get into good positions. I think this will improve when Mesut Ozil is back.
I had to give Flamini a 5 for his own-goal attempt!
I think the boos for Ox were really boos for the substitution (and a couple of boo-urns thrown in the mix). I wanted Giroud to come on but Ox and Welbeck should have stayed on the pitch. We won anyway so it doesn’t matter. Also, quick word on Emi Martinez. I know it’s early days but this kid looks like he’s got the right stuff, easy to forget he’s meant to be 3rd choice. Finally, love winning when we’re on BT Sports. You can tell it kills them whenever Arsenal win. How Southampton can be comfortable yet you give their… Read more »
I totally agree with the BT thing. I was even getting pissed off with Wrighty, especially at the end when him , the presenter and that scouse bellend had a little dig at Wenger saying he wants to win the title before his 3 years are up. And you’ve gotta say, with as much pressure as our back four seem determined on putting on young Emi Martinez, he seems to cope with it all. Especially when that pressure is in the form of playing the ball back to him while he’s being closed down. Would love to see some more… Read more »
When that ball was plopped in from the free kick by Soton in the second half, just at the edge of the box. And Emi glided out like a gigantic pterodactyl to collect it with such superb confidence. I really think we have a very special player. An Athletico Madrid load deal next season maybe?
How about we leave him in goals as long as he keeps clean sheets or doesn’t put a foot wrong??
The fact no one is barely mentioning him despite his inexperience is a huge credit to the guy. He has such a calmness about him.
I’d love to see him never needing to make any saves.
I thought the boos came from Southampton fans.
Yeah, that’s what I though too (although admittedly I wasn’t at the game).
Yeah, that’s what I thought too (although admittedly I wasn’t at the game).
North bank lower were booing the substitution – frustration that he was being subbed despite Ramsey making a few errors a minute or two before. Right decision to keep him on in the end though!
Chambers crossing was a bit off? huh? he constantly swerved good balls from the wing including in the build up to the goal. I really have no words to describe what a great player he is at 19. his crossing ability goes unnoticed and his defensive qualities are not acknowledged enough. his football intelligence is spectacular and I’m so happy we have him.
Yeah.
Yeah, I was really surprised by the comment on his crossing as well. I thought he put in some lovely balls, a better crosser than Sagna anyway.
Oh blogs, some of your best work there son. Gave me a very good chuckle indeed.
Hello
I went to the Emirates
I saw Arsenal conquer Southampton

Yeah, man.
Read your first line immediately thought you were going with “JimmyJames, thank you for the memories…”
Why is it that every opposition goalie seems to be on top form every time we play? If not for Forster, Welbeck and Giroud would have gotten at least 1 goal each. Based on this form, Forster should start for England and not Joke Hart.
we actually look so much more solid with Kos back in the team. Great to see the big guy Giroud back causing problems for the opposition
Yes, I Kos being back in the team surely makes our defense more solid. But I think, Flamini replacing Arteta also contributing factor. Arteta’s injurie spell of late settles flamini nicely in pure DM role. Though I think once Arteta is back, he’ll play as Wenger prefer deep playmaker to a breaker like Flamini.
Yep, and Monreal looks like a proper player again when he’s actually playing in his regular position. Who would’ve thought?
Southampton are a good side. Credit were credits due having wrote that well played olivier.
From the little i have seen so far. i like the look of Giroud and Welbeck playing together. With the beast himself Alexis buzzing in and around them. We have alot of options going forward.
I thought we played well, both as as team and individually. The negativity in the comments is unjustified, especially when it talks about our finishing. Our finishing was quite good today – it brought four or five absolutely world class saves out of a keeper who is quite probably the next England number one. Against a lesser goalkeeper we’d have been out of sight. To have even generated that many really good chances is impressive. Does no-one realize that Southampton still have the best defensive record in the league? They’ve allowed fewer goals than Chel$ki! We’ve beaten the second place… Read more »
3 clean sheets in a row have we turned the corner with our defence also flamini deserves a lot of credit for his performances the last3 games I wouldn’t drop Martinez he’s done nothing wrong here’s hoping for another clean sheet against Hughes cloggers on Saturday
I really don’t understand why people are annoyed by Wenger saying he thinks we can win the title in these next three years. Could you just imagine if he said we could not win it?
Of course you want him to say that but given over the past 10 years he hasn’t once assembled a squad capable, it terms of both numbers and experience, to do it, it’s difficult believe that in the next couple of years he’ll change habits that have become so entrenched
no you want him to say we’re winning it this year, but you know how it goes…we never do somehow, someway
It’s good to win against anybody these days, the league is tougher. But geez, that was a poor game of football. Do we have more than 13 players in our squad? Does Arsene Wenger realize that he has the likes of Podolski and Rosicky who have over 200 international caps between them. You could see after 15 minutes that our players are flat, tired. Wenger is continually running players into the ground. Rarely rotates a team. Cazorla, Sanchez, Welbeck, Ramsey to say the least need a break. So at least rest 2 of them. Are you telling me guys like… Read more »
No doubt I am going to get red-arrowed aplenty for this, perhaps deservingly, but I’m not sure this is all that funny: “but then I remembered he hurt Shane Long in the first half so he gets an extra half.” I love Blogs’ irreverent style as much as the next person, and his willingness to be politically incorrect enriches the site. But when he says stuff like this he sounds like a Stoke fan crowing over another agricultural Lenny tackle. Seeing as we’ve suffered more than any team in recent years from clumsy/brutal/excessive tackles, probably not the sort of rhetoric… Read more »
He just gave him a dead leg, nothing serious. I wouldn’t do that over a bad injury.
Unless it happened to John Terry
Our form since wilshere got injured is remarkable.
Good feeling waking up in the morning after an arsenal win. Can’t wait to get to the office with a huge smile in my face.
Stupid fans.
Giroud has more impact than Podolski but they would rather jeer him.
Flamini has 93% passing completion and 6 intercepts but they will still moan on about a physically imposing DM like say Wanyama or melo or Mvilla or Capoue or Gustavo or Carvalho.
Wenger beat Dortmund tactically and out foxed Southampton but they will still moan on about how he is tactically clueless.
Alexis is a brilliant purchase as is Debuchy, Chambers, Ospina, Welbeck but the fans think Wenger is allergic to buying.
Not saying he is perfect far from it. But a bit of perspective please.
Agree. 100%. But let’s not worried about those people too much.
I know what a genius!!
He’s done all this great work and managed to be 11 points worse of than at this point last year!
Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s a very strange way to show progress
Stop it!!! you’ve got be optimistic. Optimism over realism remember?? We have progressed…at least we managed to score this time around against a disjointed manure team(even though we lost) and Chelsea didn’t whoop us by 6 goals. Oh and we also managed to score 2 against city this time around. -This is how a “real” arsenal fan should think. -Never criticize wenger or point out weaknesses in our team. It’s a taboo -Giroud is the best striker in the world. he scored “26”(22) goals last in 51 games last season. What incredible stats. No other striker can do that for… Read more »
how about some perspective…we were played into thinking we could “challenge” for the title THIS season…so why the backtracking? title in 3 years? yeah we heard you, we haven’t had one in 10 years…why not say title in 10 years… makes no difference…we aren’t winning one anytime soon best we could do is applaud these consolatory winning streaks en route to 4th place trophy…
Definitely far from perfect. Cant beat a top 4 team in the league… like ever. Look at his record against Mourinho (16 games 0 wins) or Manchester United
And by top 4 I mean Chelski, City, United. Cant really call Loserpool top 4 anymore
I really don’t understand what you by he “outfoxed Southampton”. you make it look like we utterly dominated Southampton or something. The game was tight; we only scored when we had a man advantage.
As for this DM issue…I find it VERY VERY laughable that you actually think flamini is better than Gustavo, Carvalho heck even mvila. I also find it funny you think they’re just “physical, bruising defensive midfielders” when they’re all better at passing the ball than flamini.
Flamini had a great game and i’m happy we won, but stop with your fanboyism…it’s getting boring now.
Wenger has also fixed our keeper position which used to be poor.
We now have depth in Szsc, Ospina and Martinez.
Shame we did not move up the table with those ahead of us all gaining points. But if we continue with positive results (Wins), we should start to claw back Southampton, West Ham and maybe United even over next 3-4 games.
I love kos we missed u xxx on the other hand Sanchez making me a fortune this season first goalscorer how many times this season 🙂 bet barca thinking WTF have we done? On to stoke 3 point please
Flamini was my motm, pretty damn faultless with some raging challenges in the last 15 min to keep the momentum going, deals a lot better with the counters than Arteta, when he’s on form, keep it up Mathieu! And word to Giroud, man was a monster off the bench, bloody everywhere, if only he could do that from a starting position, bet he’ll start against Stoke and prove me wrong now, hope so, just put him in my fantasy team. Kozza arguably Arsenal’s most consistent player for a few years now, to think about the doubt surrounding his quality and… Read more »
Also loved how we kicked the ham out of Southampton. Reminded me of how teams used to bully us, caused two injuries which undoubtedly proved to be important when Alderwield had to limp off, toughening up Arsenal, switching up the tactics or aggression to be more exact. Kick’em, they’ve all been doing it to us for years. Ramsey lucky not to get booked though, but, Cork was owning the mid till that happened, can’t complain. Can compliment.
It wasn’t a bad game but it was a game full of mistakes in our build up play but a deserved win. If I for the last game said only Ramsey wasn’t helping in the middle, yesterday no one had. Ooo and Giroud had world class game such a smart player. Even Podolski showed why he deserves to play at least 20 minutes per game. When we are not winning he is perfect fit. And good performance in the back 4. One of the reason that I Got many low rates last week for my comment was my opinion that… Read more »
On Wilshere being out and us winning, he just lacks discipline, except when he plays for England. I think Wenger encourages him to do what he wants, whereas with Ramsey he tells him to focus on the basics, which is what we need in mid at the moment. Aaron and flamini are just there to help the other four do the real damage in the final 3rd and then with all that covered, you might have time for an assist in the last 5 mins. A lesson in patience Wilshere could learn from Ramsey.
It is just sad to see players like Ramsey who haven’t even mastered the basics playing for the Arsenal and worse, part of the starting XI… How and why on earth Wenger (for all his faults) tolerates such BS week-in week-out from such a mediocre MFer baffles me.. And Alexis’ worst game in an Arsenal shirt (and hopefully the last) but again he looked exhausted and shouldn’t have started.. When will Wenger understand squad rotation and take off visibly tired players early? Reg. your comment, Wilshere shouldn’t look up to a Ramsey – he needs to look up to world’s… Read more »
we have one hell of a goalkeeper in Martinez
Ramsey was great . He has an engine of a jet plane . He is just truly unbelievable. He must have run a marathon in the game . Ramsey and Welbecks work rate and fighting for the team is just fantastic.
‘He Merted and he Sackered’. lol
Bottom line: Arsenal fans weren’t booing Giroud, they didn’t want the OX to come off — I was half expecting Ramsey to come off, and OX to move into central midfield to accommodate Giroud.
That would’ve been suicide. Southampton would’ve overran us.
Finally, the bonus rating is baaaaack! 11/10
another huge effort after a run of tough tough games. +0.5 all round. we look so much more stable from the back. why weren’y we playing like this at the start? this is clearly wengers ‘plan b’ but should obviously be his plan a. and his plan a should be his plan c. i don;t know what he should do with the current plan c. franchise it out to spurs maybe. although their current plan a is funny so maybe just leave them to it.
The Ox was one of the best players again. How did you not see it? He ran at players with pace and was dangerous when on the ball each time. He was obviously mad because he knows santi and ramsay and even welbeck should have come off before him based on performance
What did you all make of the crowd jeering even our own players? If I was adding a rating for the crowd they would have got 1 out of 5 that night. And quiet when they was nothing to jeer about. There were times when you could hear the Southampton manager yelling out instructions!
Awesome performance from the lads……always be grateful for a win…..enjoy the moment first, then work on the faults later.
