Arsenal dominate all stats, press high up the pitch
17 – 10 Arsenal – Newcastle shots
378-340 Arsenal – Newcastle passes completed
132-69 Arsenal – Newcastle passes completed in the final third
35 – Percent of Arsenal’s completed passes which were in the Newcastle final third — and don’t forget, Arsenal had the lead after the 14th minute, typically a team which takes an early lead will concede possession and the opposition will dominate shots, passes, and almost every other category
20 – Percent of Newcastle’s passes which were in the Arsenal final third
15-7 Arsenal – Newcastle successful dribbles
10 – Arsenal successful dribbles in the Newcastle final third
4 – Successful Arsenal dribbles in the Newcastle 18 yard box
12 – Successful dribbles by Ox (5/6), Sanchez (4/7), and Bellerin (3/5) almost all of which were in the Newcastle final third (Bellerin and Sanchez had 1 dribble each in the Newcastle box
6 – Sanchez also drew 6 fouls that were called (led all players) and one kick to the chest which was ignored
2 – Successful Newcastle dribbles in the Arsenal final third (of TWELVE attempts)
5 – Tackles by Gibbs (led all players with 5/5), passing the test that Newcastle tried to throw at him — he also led all players with 5 interceptions, 2 of which were high up the pitch in the Newcastle final third
4 – Tackles by Ox (4/4) with three of them deep in the Newcastle half — I can’t stress how important this type of penetrative dribbling and tackles is by Ox, he really ran the midfield superbly. Meanwhile, tough-guy destroyer Chieck Tiote missed 4/8 tackles, all of which were deep in the Newcastle half and put his team under enormous pressure
6/9 – Aerial duels won by Debuchy, leading all players and proving that Newcastle targeted him for aerial duty… wrongly
9/11 – Arsenal tackles in the Newcastle half
7/8 – Newcastle tackles in the Arsenal half
71-55 Arsenal – Newcastle ball recoveries
26-23 Arsenal – Newcastle tackles
4 – Arsenal shots on target
4 – Arsenal goals scored
3 – Arsenal goals scored from prime positions (includes penalty)
4 – Newcastle shots on target
1 – Newcastle goal
2 – Newcastle shots on goal in the six yard box with Arsenal only up 1-0, though we probably should have been up 2-0 since Welbeck scored a beauty only to have it called off by Lee Mason because of a mystery foul
2 – Big saves by Szczesny which spared Lee Mason blushes
What does the 7amkickoff Index say?
48 – Number of goals Arsenal have scored in all competitions this season
5 – Headed goals Arsenal have scored this season in all competitions
2 – Headed goals by Giroud this season (Koz, Welbeck, and Sanchez scored one each)
5 – All 5 Arsenal headed goals have been scored in Premier League play
12 – West Ham lead all teams with 12 headed goals (the 2nd place team, Everton, have only scored 6)
9 – Arsenal have conceded 9 goals from headers in all competitions
7 – Arsenal have conceded 7 goals from headers in Premier League play
3 – Arsenal have scored 3 goals off penalties this season, 2 in Premier League play, and 1 in each of the last two Premier League matches
1 – ‘Controversial’ penalty taken by Santi Cazorla which Robbie Earle on TV in the USA called “disrespectful” and which Carlo Cudicini criticized on Twitter which was picked up by the Telegraph and published as an actual article, proving that even when Arsenal play well, dominate a game completely, against an opponent who just beat the champions elect, the press will still find something absurd to criticize.
And with that criticism, we have finally reached peak stupid.
Happy birthday Santi Cazorla!
@7amkickoff
1 ARSENE WENGER MOFOS
I really enjoy Bellerin’s work
Yep. Bulletin big plus today. Still a lot to learn but big difference to the Stoke game from him
Yeah, the Robbie Earle comment ticked me off too. What did he want Cazorla to do? Kick it over the bar to spare his feelings? What a dick.
I have stopped reading those stupid newspapers who fund nothing else to report about except that penalty. It’s perfectly acceptable penalty, how can it be disrepectful. The only way it can be if someone cheats. Someone dives and earns a penalty, that’s a disrespectful.
You mean someone like Cristiano Ronaldo? Well, who cares if he cheats.. after all, he’s gonna win the Ballon D’or.
Or Costa, cos he’ll probably get the golden boot (if he stays fit… big IF)….
or cahill cos he plays for engeerrrrland etc.
Maybe that’s why Cahill has been spared at least 2 red cards this season….
Never mind how Cazorla took it, I think it’s absolutely outrageous Lee Mason had the temerity to even award us a penalty in the first place.
Lee Mason? Shit, I thought it was Phil Mitchell.
Lee Mason finally realised late in the Second Half that he was backing a loser by giving Newcastle all the decisions and AFC yellow cards and tried to appear impartial with the Pen and cards for Newcastle.
The standard is poor.Taylor,Mason,Dean and Foy yesterday playing up to the Chelsea Mafia.
Gets to a point when Fatty/Thinny Dowd is one of the best.
I never listen to the numb ties on ESPN.
Having said that the BBC is no different.
I’m not sure why they thought the score flattered us.
Considering the disallowed goal and the amount of attempts we had over Newcastle, we were good for the penalty and the win
I could really get use to a 4-1 score line.
So could the hack journos out there, they’ll be whinging about a leaky defense and other such bullshit.
He was probably trying to make up for the DW goal that wasn’t given in the 1st half……..
No sorry, If it’s Mason then he just fucked up.
No chance of the cunt trying to sent the record straight.
it was good to hear the support for Arsene. He has, after all, given us teams that play great football and so many wonderful moments. Yes he’s a stubborn git, but he’s our stubborn git. We still have some unpleasant supporters. When we were going back into Arsenal station there was a moronic chants of “Yidos”. When I pointed out that Arsenal has more Jewish supporters than Tottenham I just got abuse; can’t we put an end to that rubbish that devalues our great club.
Walking with supporters towards a train station is probably not the best time for a lesson in political correctness.
But when Pirlo takes the penalty like that, its genius. As a Czech I like to see, when someone has the balls, to do, what Panenka did in 1976.
Disrespectful penalty? Where do people come from with stupid shit like that? It not only takes guts to do the panenka but great technique and quality as well.. And hell, Santi gave a gift for all of us on his own birthday!
It was one of those moments for which people watch the game.. I was stunned at the audacity and quality of it.. All the better when it is one of our own.. BYW, hope we don’t lose Santi to Atletico or any other in the summer.. he is 30 and we will need him..
Cudicini should get fucked
I know its.only 2 games. But with ox in CM, the balance seems alot better than with Wilshere in team. And I’m wilshere’s biggest fan. Also, im defo not flaminis biggest fan, but he has played very well in the absence of arteta. Instead just barking orders, seems to be worring bout his game and positioning. Bellerin seems to be growing in confidence and played well overall. Debuchy was solid in the CB pos. Glad to see Podolski on pitch, maybe he has seen what Alexis is doing and realised he needs to do more. Seemed to owork harder against… Read more »
Ox was key for us I thought, he was not content just to pass it around like we often do to achieve sterile domination. Personally I prefer him out wide, but he was a beast in midfield today. He reminded me a little of Yaya Toure with a little more zip and a smaller arse.
I remember in the mid 90s a young precocious Dwight Yorke did that penalty dink for Aston villa against David Seaman. Did I feel Seaman was disrespected? Of course not. Kudos where its due. A penalty kick is a game of nerves. Goalkeepers play mind games all the time and I encourage that also, it’s brilliant entertainment for spectators. Robbie ‘zero charisma’ Earl can go do one, the boring bastard, and Cudicini (who I’ve witnessed do that stupid waving his hands in the air distraction thingy before penalties), is a hypocritical, chav-reject, scum-reject, Ray-Parlour-piledriver-letting-in, FA Cup losing twat. Piss off… Read more »
“a hypocritical, chav-reject, scum-reject, Ray-Parlour-piledriver-letting-in, FA Cup losing twat.”
Wow.
At least that’s one numpty on TV who has an actual reason to dislike Arsenal. Most of them just do it to fit in with the crowd.
I think it’s gone too far when peoples tweets gets published on newspapers websites. How the fuck is that good journalism? “Arsenal v Newcastle 4-1, here’s what a random dick who has no valid or insightful knowledge/opinion had to say about that using a maximum of 140 characters”. WTF, people?!?!
On a sporting note I thought Debuchy looked good at CB. He’s got a lot of the same qualities Koscielny has, minus maybe the experience in that position and raw strength. Certainly someone I’d be comfortable with at CB until we can get Kos back and buys some cover
Dude. I give 1-3 months until Claude will get his proper column in a main stream newspaper
You see Lee Mason’s face when he gave the penalty? Was a look that said “F@uck, even I have to give that”
Yeah it was almost apologetic!
It was disrespectful to score four goals. Two were enough.
I hope we’re going to be disrespectful to Liverpool on Sunday.
Nah, fuck it, I hope we’re downright insulting and score 6.
If we win, they will try and say that Newcastle were poor. That’s two wins over high flying Southampton and Newcastle. Cannot be a coincidence surely. We have some quality in this team. Debuchy’s understanding of his old team was helpful but he filled in as CBack superbly I’m going to say it now, we have a special player in the making of Bellerin when he tightens up his defensive game. No comparison to Jenkinson. Bellerin whips his crosses in with intent. Fantastic attacking instinct and great skill on the ball. On was brilliant today too and Santi has finally… Read more »
To be fair, Jenkinson isn’t a bad crosser at all- remember how we used to complain about Sagna always hitting the first man with his crosses. But Jenkinson’s all round play is a bit more one dimensional / systematic rather than as creative / versatile as Bellerin. Would never have seen Jenkinson do Bellerin’s 60-yard dribbling run into the box past 3 defenders.
I would still love to see Jenkinson back. A few more years’ mentorship for both of them under Debuchy and we’ll see what they’re made of.
From what little I’ve seen of Jenkinson at West Ham, he is looking better and better offensively. I think Bellerin is the better long-term prospect, but after Debuchy gets put out to pasture (in about 3 years) it would be great to have both of them competing for the RB spot a la Gibbs and Monreal. (Chambers is more of a CB for me.)
That’s been the official line… Arsenal may have beaten Newcastle but it’s no big deal because they’re supposed to beat teams like Newcastle.
If we receive shit like that for only winning 4-1 against Newcastle then why don’t I remember the Press Shitstorm when Chelsea lost to them last weekend?
I would like to see Bellerin take over at RB until Koscienly gets back. Debuchy was just as effective as Sagna was at CB especially in dealing with aerial balls.
I’ll never understand how dinking a penalty like that is disrespectful. The one and singular point of taking a penalty is to score a goal. How is smashing it with venom into the top corner any less disrespectful? It’s just another way of telling the keeper he’s a pansy-ass and couldn’t possibly measure up to your thunderous leg. Is the only “respectful” penalty taken with the exact right amount of “respectful” force and in an appropriately “respectful” location? Good grief. On another note, something needs to be done about the state of Premiere League officiating. While the quality has been… Read more »
Players shouldn’t be allowed to score from penalties. It’s so disrespectful for the poor keeper. Actually players should stop scoring goals when playing at home. That’s disrespectful for the visitors who traveled so long to come see the host.
There was a very old English team, I think Oxford University, who refused to take penalties on the grounds that they were ungentlemanly. Not surprisingly the team is not around today….
The ball was travelling so slowly I was sure their keeper was going to get up and dive again!
Beautiful penalty.
D Panenka paralyses you
It was Corinthians, there’s a book on them worth reading.
Ah, jolly good, thanks! Couldn’t for the life of me remember the team, although I had a funny feeling there was a Greek reference in their name!
Is Carzola kicking a puppy in the picture?
Yep. That was what was so disrespectful
Oh, NOW I get it.
And here I thought the puppy’s name was Panenka.
Basically we creamed them.
With how few young, high-level fullbacks there are in the game atm, Bellerin looks to be everything a modern full-back is made of. Lightning fast, skillful on the ball, AMAZING AT CROSSING, and a bit of a liability defensively (this is true of almost all young full-backs, it’ll change with time).
There was a cross he bent in from a few yards into the Newcastle half that was almost inch-perfect to find either Giroud or Welbeck. That made me shed a tear. When have we last had anybody that can put a ball like that in from the flanks?
Good to see our team playing with confidence. All four goals were top quality. Whoever we draw in CL, if we raise our game, we have the potential to beat them.
Happy for the win today. But lets be real, Southampton has lost four in a row. Not exactly “high flying”.
Did we play Southampton today?
I think it was just a general observation
I think he was trying to say that our win over Sotton wasn’t worth being pleased about.
I dunno about that, still second, right?
So, like a plane that has lost both it’s engines but is still high up in the air, they’re still flying high but there’s a good chance it’s not going to be the case in the near future.
My major criticism has to be ozil and Walcott. Entirely not involved.
But on the plus side, neither of them missed a single pass!
Santi scores when he wants… End of story.
On another note, how amazing was Giroud today? That leap was quite fishy
Amazing ending “Happy birthday Santi Cazorla”, music to my ears!
Man, this team is loaded with talent. Sheesh! With Debuchy and Giroud back, Bellerin and Ox playing their brains out, Gibbs still growing with every match, and Santi finding his boots (thank you Jesus!) and Alexis, being, well…Alexis fucking Sanchez baby…it’s easy to forget that guys like Kos, Ozil, Walcott, Chambers, Ramsey, Wilshire, Gnabry, Ospina, Rosicky and Arteta weren’t even available today, nevermind Podolski coming off the bench (poor Joel, he would have fit right into this one!). My takeaway was with Danny Welbeck, Olivier Giroud and Alexis on the pitch today things came together smoothly in ways that few… Read more »
Aye, Welbeck works his arse off and that alone is to be admired.
I think Flamini also deserves a mention for his recent upturn in form. He’s been keeping things ticking over nicely the last few games. Stoke was a bit of a blip but in the other 4 games around it he has done very well. He’s no world beater but he’s been quietly efficient of late.
“Controversial penalty”
Heh!
We’re the only team in Europe where the controversial part of the penalty is in the taking of it rather than the giving of it. We seem to be working to different rules to everybody else.
99.9 – percentage of fans Arsene believes act respectfully towards him even if they are upset with him
100 – percent chance that morons will misinterpret ( piss poor journalists included ) this to mean Arsene thinks 99.9 of arsenal fans are in awe of him and want him to stay for ever and ever and ever.
People can be so fucking stupid it hurts.
Regularly play like we did yesterday and anything’s possible.
Have a bit more luck with injuries and decisions and we could even push for the title.
Dear Santa, I mean Santi.
For Christmas can you please send the goalie the wrong way, and then chip the ball down the middle to score our fourth goal………..any fuckin time you like.
Robbie Earle is entitled to his opinion, amongst others, but it’s Santi who gift wraps the presents
Robbie Earle licks Kyle Martino’s taint and gets pieces of poo in his mustache… But I think we will be a stronger side now with our Coq back and DaOx may give Wenger a lot to think about regarding the return of Wilshere and Walcott. DaOx is really going from strength to strength and his defensive capabilities can’t be overlooked because he doesn’t play off emotion and get all geed up like Wilshere but confidence and skill!
DaOx?
No. Definitely NO!!!!
