Arsene Wenger has declared himself pleased by many aspects of the performance in the 4-1 win over Newcastle yesterday, but especially the quality of the goals we scored.
Olivier Giroud netted with a thumping header and a deft flick, while Santi Cazorla’s two came from a delightful chip and a Panenka penalty.
Speaking after the game, Wenger said, “The first three goals were great and I couldn’t see what was wrong with the Welbeck goal in the first half! I have to see it again but we always looked like we could score goals.
“Giroud’s first was a great goal. The Santi Cazorla goal was a great goal as well and a great pass from Alexis Sanchez. Bellerin got the ball from Oxlade-Chamberlain and made a great cross that Olivier deflected in with the outside of his boot. We scored great goals.”
The Arsenal manager was, overall, happy with a performance that reflected the expected quality of his team far more than the Stoke display last weekend.
“In the last six games we’ve won five. We need a few more wins to completely lift the confidence. You could see at some stage we were a bit edgy sometimes when it was 3-1 and the crowd as well felt the ghost of Anderlecht here a little bit. We need a few more games.
“I felt that even defensively we looked comfortable and the balance was right.”
The boss was also asked about tomorrow’s Champions League draw which could see the Gunners faced with trips to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich, amongst others.
“We have been well served in the recent years. Maybe I will go to church over the weekend,” he quipped.
And I will light a candle or two for the club 🙂
I’ll come too. Let’s get the hash tag of #gunners2church trending!
Or we can just go to ajax and beg bergkamp … Either way
Great to hear the crowd getting behind Wenger again, been a long time since I’ve heard a Wenger chant at a game or watching it down the pub.
Which chant was it?
Only one Arsene Wenger
There’s only one Arsene Wenger.
One Arsene Weeeeengerrrr
We know that we dont have good luck with the draws! Somehow we always get the toughest possible opponent but hey, bring them ON! We are gaining momentum at the right time and I am still hopeful of some silverware! COYG!
By the way, where is the player rating this week?
We said that every year. haha.
Do they sell CBs at church?
No. Jesus is against markets in the church.
See the Gospel of Matthew 21:12: “Jesus entered the transfer market and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling players.”
Tony the two footed tackling Vicar is looking for a new challenge. Uses holy water on his victims instead of magic spray
Gotta beat everyone to win it…………… ha ha ha I crack me up
But we’re not there entirely on luck so COYG
All we can hope for is Monaco, Athletico Madrid and Porto. I think we can do any of these but wouldn’t mind anyone except Munich. Here’s hoping the key players like Ramsey, Arteta and Kos are available by then.
if i choose between real.m and bayern i would say bayern for me because they are posetion team now with guardiola and we already played them couple of time so we know what to expect and improve tactically, with real .m the best inform club at the moment we would be murdered like bayern was last year, they kept possession all game make a poor pass and were destroyed on counter attack, something that we also do often.
It’s going to be Arsenal v Bayern, Barcelona v Chelsea. Sure they use the same balls every year don’t they?
New balls please for the draw tomorrow.
We got a new Coq, have to have new balls as well.
Yep… preferably balls that haven’t been fiddled with.
We’re looking at you Platini!
Actually we just used withdrawal method to pull out our good old Coq,so the balls might just be the same.
I’ll say it here first…If wenger changes the defensive lineup against pool and puts chambers back in at RB/CB…I’m gonna be pissed…
Yeah, cos HB having a poor game and then a great game really shows he’s the finished article……
and Chambers is the finished article?
No but he’s much closer than Hector.
Loads of potential but one great game doesn’t make him better (yet?).
Chambers was never a right back…he doesn’t have the pace to play that position week in week out, whether he develops into a good player in other positions remains to be seen but if Arsene really sees him as a true RB, we’ll see him okay some days but absolutely torched in others
to be fair, Chambers only have a few games up on Bellerin before that big money transfer to us and injuries forced him to have to play week in week out for us and not sure if Bellerin wouldn’t do just as well given the time to bed in. In terms of potential at RB, Bellerin definitely has the higher ceiling. To be honest, I’m not impressed with Chambers as the season goes on, he’s solid early in the season but I think he needs to take a breather and put things in perspective but we have no luxury to… Read more »
I also think HB is a real prospect and in a few years time him & Theo on the right is a mouth watering prospect but not yet. Pretty much all youngsters are inconsistent. Remember that a portion of our home crowd act as opposition fans by booing our own players for a bad game and I really don’t want to see that happen to HB to crush his confidence. CC has been through the initial ‘trial’ and is a bit more consistent than most young players. Plus missing the last game will hopefully have given him a break, although… Read more »
He will, so have fun being pissed then!
and have fun seeing us being exploited defensively again? just be objective and don’t be so dismissive if anyone says something against wenger? I think it’s a legitimate point that chambers and mertesacker CB partnership is not the strongest for us this season and chambers hasn’t been that good against teams that have speed playing against him on that side of the defense. Wish we can discuss and debate honestly about the weak and strong points in our team without being written off with useless one liners like yours…Not everyone who says anything bad about the manager’s actions is against… Read more »
You’re not saying anything against Wenger though, just Chambers, don’t conflate the issue with something else.
I think Chambers/Mertesacker looked really quite strong with Debuchy at RB, not so much against Stoke but that is with the Bellerin/Chambers axis of inexperience. Bellerin did well, but I’d rather have Debuchy there and Chambers at CB when we’re against decent teams, maybe the more attacking Bellerin should play against shitty teams.
Thats what I wanted to say. Cheers!
Tell me how great everything was again, Arsene.
Wenger going to church for a favourable draw? That means mourinho the cunt is a good christian. Even at that, John Terry is a cunt!
i just have no ask, no player ratings???
Player Ratings: http://news.arseblog.com/2014/12/arsenal-4-1-newcastle-player-ratings/?utm_source=feedburner.com%2Farseblognews&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arseblognews+%28Arseblog+News+-+the+Arsenal+news+site%29/
I’d rather get Bayern early, and either go out, and concentrate on other things…or beat them!
COYG!!!
Or Real…
Or Barca! Bring it on…
It doesn’t matter, we will come up against barca or real or bayern at some stage anyway.
Whether we exit round 16 or quarters or even semis, it still won’t be ‘progression enough for some.
At very least an early exit they will say gives us a fighting chance for fourth. A late exit they will bleat will be at expense of even CL spot.
Sometimes miracles do happen. See Liverpool second in group and beating Milan with a weak team n Benitez. Go to church.;)
Yes, but in latter stage we can have a full fit team, with walcott, ozil , wilshere and kos back, and with a chance to go trough. I have a strange feeling that would be atletico madrid for us, we will see tomorrow, and if we get them we have 50-50 chance to beat them.
We are a great team. We are Arsenal. -Flamini
All these huge teams floating around… Any chance we can get shamrock rovers or better my Sunday leauge team?
I promise, I’ll go easy on the best team in the world!
A nice win yesterday – and a good performance. So why am I so underwhelmed? Watching Arsenal this season is like watching an average movie that you’ve seen many times before: you know exactly what’s about to happen. Everything is occurring just as we are all expecting. That’s why it’s so boring. Arsene’s average Arsenal will do just about enough to nick fourth again, but will be absolutely nowhere near the winners when the title is being decided in May. We’ll pick up enough points from average and bad sides like Newcastle, Palace and Aston Villa to qualify for the… Read more »
Welcome back, FG, we’ve missed your buzzkill.
to retort, a quote in honor of the homie xzibit, who already took time from his busy schedule to speak on this thread: “i stay committed while you mothafuqaz babysit it smash the critics like an overhand right from riddick … so what the fuq am i supposed to do? i pop bottles and hot hollow points at each and all of you a heartless bastahd, high & plastered my style is like a reaction from too much acid … so what’s the difference between me n you? about 5 bank accounts 3 houses and two vehicles until my death… Read more »
