Report: Sanogo set for January loan

The BBC are reporting that Yaya Sanogo will leave the club on loan this January.

As they rarely engage in this kind of speculation, we can assume that the story comes from a good place, and it’s no surprise that the club are looking to help the young Frenchman develop.

He’s clearly a player Arsene Wenger has a lot of faith it, but right now he’s well behind Danny Welbeck, Alexis and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order, and just isn’t play anywhere near enough.

The former Auxerre man has become something of a lightning rod for criticism since his arrival. He scored his first goal in 19 appearances last month in the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, but he’s been handed key starts in massive games for the Gunners which suggests the Arsenal manager believes there’s a player that not all of us can see right now.

It seems he’s likely to go to another Premier League club to help him get the games under his belt at the level the club want.

We’ll see where he ends up but it all seems pretty sensible.

I honestly can’t see him starting for any Premier league team, would be a shame for him to go out on loan and only get a handful of sub appearances…

DialSquareGoon

Agreed. A loan in the Championship where he can start regularly is probably the best. He just needs competition above the Under-21 level where he cant bully defenders too easily.

GunnerDareMacedonia

Really ? You think he can’t start for Burnley for example or Leicester, i’m sure he would get 10+ games in those two sides.

Gargoyle

Wow, 10 games for the worst PL teams. That’s like being a fully established first team player in the Championship, right? Stop making excuses for the lad. He has the brains, but not the body for this sport. Maybe in a few years he will come good, but right now he’s just like Chamakh, and we all know what you think of him.

gar14

“He has the brains, but not the body for this sport.”

This makes no sense to me. The guy’s a beast and clearly has the body for this sport. He can bully defenders. Just needs experience to bring his game to the highest level. I don’t get the negativity surrounding this guy. I think he’ll come good.

Gargoyle

Any physical player can ‘bully’ defenders. It’s what you do with the ball that matters and he’s like a floppy giraffe when it comes to handling the ball. He’s good at chesting the ball and that’s it. He reminds me of Giroud when he first came to us. But Giroud has improved massively over the past two years in terms of ball control and technical ability and that’s what Sanogo needs to do to become a good player. Right now, I’m sorry to say, he’s below our standard, or the standard of most PL teams. You can parade him all… Read more »

Tazmanian Jesus

Concidence, I just came by to parade Sanogo!

DöubleDöubleDöuble

Kanu, Asprilla, that Costa Rican bloke who used to play for Citeh…all of them were like ‘floppy giraffes’, all of them turned out to be pretty decent footballers.

North Bank Gooner

Damn his rubbish body, as it is so bad, he might not keep scoring in u21 games, and France u21 internationals. When our countries met he even outscored Harry Kane, the darling of the press, a guy The Sun jizz over as often as poss. ( and a class A cunt, Spuddie bellend 😉 ) He might not be Titi in his pomp, but he has made progress of late, injuries have not been such an issue ( even at the most injury prone of clubs 😉 ) and his hold up play has really improved. I think he will… Read more »

Gargoyle

Ok then, using your logic, we should buy all players that are good at U-21 level then. Not saying he isn’t a decent player, but he is the worst player in our team right now and he needs to take a giant leap and improve his quality to justify starting a game.

Rectum Spectrum

You could indeed use his logic that way, but that would be really fucking stupid. Probably best to just use his logic in the way he intended, judge the potential of a young striker that we actually already own.

I see you’ve jumped all over the former option there.

Bould's Eyeliner

The main problem here is that he has simply been pushed into the top-tier game too quickly, as a result of our roster last year. While he’s most likely had some learning experiences, the result is that he’s been wasting his time, when he could play on loan, at least 2-3x a month.

Now that our roster is fully capable of asserting its offensive power, now he’s going on the loan that he’s always needed. This was a very likely move, and not really worth any real notice. Let’s pay attention when he’s back.

spinner

Roster? Do you mean squad?

Rectum Spectrum

It was obvious what he meant, but good on you for pointing that out.

North Bank Gooner

@gargoyle, bit lost with the ” my logic ” bit, I was simply answering the point about “Not the body for this sport” wasn’t recommending a change to transfer policy. Didn’t say he should be in the first 11 either, but he looks a real prospect. He needs to play games, and build confidence, so a loan is probably the best thing. It’s just getting a bit old, all the Yaya bashing. I remember when some gooners slated Theo, “he just runs fast, and usually straight out of play” was all you heard from that section of fans. Theo developed,… Read more »

Daft Aider

I actually think he should go to any team that will give him plenty of game time, be it championship or even league 1 at the moment, he desperately needs a good run of games at the moment for him to progress as he is nowhere near good enough for our bench at present

GoonerN16

I couldn’t disagree with you more. I think he has massive potential and an athletic, powerful physic. He needs game time and confidence. Go for it Sonogo!

pies

Don’t think he is better than Ulloa or Ings, so no he wouldn’t get a regular run there.

Dick Swiveller

Considering Leicester play 4-4-2 he wouldn’t need to be better than Ulloa, plus I really think you’re underrating what he can do.

Consider Lukaku, he’s less dveloped than him but someone with that physciality, and ability will alawys be useful to ANY team below the top teams.

pies

I think Vardy is better than him too. I maybe underestimating him but have seen him play on a dozen or so occasions and don’t think he would get into any premiership side.
He falls over all the time, on TV you only see him when he’s on or near the ball but even off the ball he stumbles, trips and falls.

Pearson

Rather play in a League one side that is challenging and scoring a few goals.
Even Lionel Messi won’t score any goals playing for Burnley or a for a really shit team like Spurs

UndercoverMancGooner

I don’t see why Burnley or Leicester would drop their decent strikers in Ings and Ulloa for a relatively raw and unproven 21 year old. Not when they’re battling for survival.

I’m not being down on Sanogo, I like the bloke and think he could become a useful player, but I don’t think he’s ready to lead the line for a Premiership team regularly yet.

Personally I’d like to see him go to Brentford.

Striker

I cannot see him be a big success in the championship either to be perfectly honest.. He got no future at the club at all I would say. He is like a new Crouch, not at all what we need. Akpom and Campbell should start ahead of him every day a week.

Scott P

I have to say, I agree with Wenger on this one – it seems like there is a great player underneath there. Hard working, physical, and surprisngly quick, Sanogo is a good prospect. But still a prospect. I think getting as much game time as possible is crucial, and I think he’ll score several this season if he can get starts for another PL team. Best of luck to him.

alexis' shorts

Yea, everyone can agree that the potential is there. But a player so raw technically cannot easily slot into our format. As is evident, it’s easier for someone more technical and less physical to work with us. Thankfully Giroud can do both. He’ll have to prove himself if he (hopefully) gets loaned to a PL club, but he’d still get more chances at lower club than pretty much nil with us if everyone is healthy. Hopefully he’ll get good time on the pitch and grow. Or we can feed him more and have our very own Emile Heskey too.

Dick Swiveller

He seemed to fit in quite nicely with that backheel to Santi, before he was slipped in on goal.

I mostly agree though, he’s too inconsistent for us so gametime will do him the world of good.

Maddolove

Finally someone talking sense
Yaya will be a great player in the next 5 years
Peter Crouch made a good living in the EPL, Yaya comparison ( who in my opinion is better technically) is not a bad thing. It could be argued that Yaya is a better player than any Championship Forward
A rough diamond who needs games.

Yaya is a street fighter forward who need some focused Head and Legs coordination play to succeed.
People use to laugh at Emile Heskey yet he scored more goals than Drogba

alexis' shorts

yaaa um, even though I made a reference to Heskey in my post, I really hope he ends up way better :/
and I think he will if he gets regular gametime rather than being thrust into our first team which is currently beyond his depth to do each week

Bacstreets bac

You can’t see him being a regular starter for Leicester? Then he has no hope

papapapapap

Think I would have Ulloa over him everday…

Giroud Awakening

Maybe in 2-3 years yes, but you only have to look at how many goals Ulloa has got compared to Sanogo to see that he is the better striker as of right now.

bims lay

well, if you are going to compare their goals then you should also compare the number of hours on the pitch by each player to score the goals and this will give you a different picture.

for me, Yaya is a talent no doubt, albeit still raw, he just needs more game time to polish him up, so a loan will do his talent a world of good

Dick Swiveller

I refer you to my comment above, aside from the fact that Ulloa has looked shite for the last 2 months after a good start, they play 4-4-2 so he would get chances.

Not that it mskes much difference, he’d start for Hull/West Brom/QPR/Palace and considering how much gametime Altidore is getting for Sunderland, I’d imagine he’d get plenty of gametime for them too.

Giroud Awakening

Send him on loan to Spurs and take them down from within…bring that club to its knees – oh wait.

Pearson

Sanogo will improve Spurs shit squad

We don’t want that

SG

Good one. Yaya needs more playing time. A team in the bottom reaches of the prem would do just fine, thank you. Also, this should bring Akpom closer to the first team.

Askar

because Akpom cleaerly has more of chance at starting games for us than Sanogo..? jeez.

Samgunz

I think his point is that if we were to get another injury Akpom might actually be seen on the pitch for more than 5 mins, in Sanogo’s place, otherwise we should be sending him out on loan too, both he and Afobe seem more exciting prospects to me.

Roastimbou27

Get him at villa or crystal palace and he’ll do a job for either of those teams. Personally think palace is perfect for him. Regular service from decent wide players, and although Warnock is a horrific human being, he’ll appreciate his physicality. All the best to him. Hope he proves everyone who has written him off wrong. Thought his performance against Liverpool in the fa cup last year was outstanding. Gave skrtel an awkward afternoon in what was a high pressure game that demanded a performance. Good luck yaya.

Andy Mack

Gave Agger a mauling.

Striker

He’ll do a freaking excellent job with getting them relegated.

guyfawkes

Joel Campbell needs a Premier League loan spell. Did wonders for Sturridge and Welbeck and will do the same for him. Get him used to the rough and tough PL and then make him a star here.

DAMOBOT

This guy is technically better than Anelka and Adebayor at a similar age. His problem however is he is physically unbalanced IMHO. He needs to work on that as I think as footballer and a tall one he needs that centre of gravity and the strength in his lower torso to be able to stay on his feet more especially when in front of goal to get his shots away. Welbeck has a similar problem when he is in front of goal he seems to lose his balance and fall regardless whether he scores on not. I think his potential… Read more »

papapapapap

Better than Anelka at a similar age? Really? Anelka had scored twenty three goals for arsenal before moving to Real Madrid at the age Sanogo is now!!

DAMOBOT

That is why I said “Technically”. Means his footballing ability. That has nothing to do with scoring goals. Darren Bent scored loads of goals but you can’t say he was technically as gifted as Bergkamp. If you remember Anelka’s goals that season (or watch it back now) you will see that his pace and finishing had a lot to do with the sheer number of goals he scored (along with youth and enthusiasm). I’m not saying Anelka is not a good player because with experience he has shown he has quality particularly in his late 20s and early 30s. Sanogo… Read more »

Gandalf

I’m sorry but you’ve no idea what technical ability is. Or you’ve grossly forgotten how Anelka played.

Anelka was fast and a good finisher, yes. He also had a very good first touch, good feet, and good dribbling skills.

I like Sanogo, he tries hard, and puts himself about. But he has the technical ability of a retarded duck. All he has over Anelka is aerial ability, and that’s because he’s taller.

DFS

There are some farcical comments on this thread.

If we are all going to now pretend Sanogo is a major talent, why send him out on loan? Lets just put him back in the frst team where apparently, if he can shine for other Premier League teams he no doubt will shine for Arsenal.

Ridiculous

sackman

erm, anelka had helped win us the league by the age of 19, and was our top scorer the following season. he had arrived, won the double and left before he was sanogo’s age. adebayor was about the same age as sanogo when he joined, but he was scoring sraight away. he reached double figures in his second season, and 30 in his third. who knows how he will turn out, but both the players you mention were clearly better strikers than sanogo by the time they were 21. your comments are a little incongruous to the reality of the… Read more »

DAMOBOT

Judging Football players by the number of goals they score especially at that age is for “Amateurs”. I never belittled what Anelka nor Adebayor did for us or denied they scored goals. All I’m saying is that this guy looks technically gifted in his all round play. The way he exchanges passes, his vision and running off the ball. Goals are one aspect of a strikers proof of his ability. Anyone remember a fella by the name of Bergkamp????

Gandalf

DAMOBOT

If he has the technical ability of retard duck and he plays for Arsenal now what does that say about you?? And no I didn’t forget how Anelka played and I’ve got the world greatest footballing talent spotter “Arsene” who thinks the same way and you? Well you’ve got you to back you up.

Nuff said!!!

Gandalf

The same Arsene who got in Chamakh, Park, Gervinho, Jeffers, Squillaci etc.? He has made mistakes you know. Youve made a ridiculous defence to your argument here.

Dick Swiveller

Anelka aside though, he has a point.

Maddolove

Bravo

vin_unleaded

Technically better than Anelka at a similar age?

Total bobbins!

El Piresidente

He’s had some very decent games. Borussia Dortmund this season and he was immense against Liverpool in the FA Cup last year. I could see him doing quite well on loan. His problem has less to do with him – he’s a young player with promise, who is raw and inexperienced – and more to do with the general state of agitation around, so he’s come to symbolise fans’ frustrations with players who “aren’t good enough”. Good luck to him.

PodB

And his silky touch followed by Giroud’s back heel led to something quite special in the FA Cup final last season … good luck, you’ve repaid your wages already

Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding

Sunderland, Hull, West Brom or Aston Villa might take him.

pies

I can’t see anyone in the premier league taking him, and if they do I can’t see him getting many games.

Thinking of teams towards the bottom, they all have better strikers than Sanogo.

Strevs

I might get some stick for this but I think this guy could be a hell of a player. He’s of the Benteke mould in the sense of his build and speed. If he could add goals to his hold up play and all round game he could be a hell of a player. He has scored goals at every level and he misses a lot of chances at the top level, which means he has the nouse the get into those positions. A 6 month loan with regular playing time away from the negative pricks at the Emirates where… Read more »

Dick Swiveller

He has a load of potential, and it already a useful player…just not quite up to competing with Welbeck/Giroud/Alexis and possibly Theo at the moment.

It depends on if you trust Wenger on strikers, he’s been happy to chuck him into crunch situations (cup final, Bayern, Dortmund) and he’s generally done well, so with a bit more gametime and some confidence he’ll hopefully come good.

bims lay

i agree with you fully. i dont get all the negativity about this guy…he is only just 21 and he is clearly a talent, obviously, he is not ready yet, but if we take the time develop him. we will reap the reward in the future. sending him out on loan to get more game time will definitely help him develop to his true potential it takes different players different time to reach their full potential and this applies to any sports,…. for example, in Tennis, nadal won his first grand slam at the age of 17? whereas murray won… Read more »

Wiltshere really? Shame on you.

Policeman's Bangers 'N' Mash

Sounds like a good idea.

monkey knees

Keep him in London – send him to Charlton. They’ll play him regularly and did good work with Le Coq (and Song, years ago!).

Less Rambly Pete

Maybe not Charlton, but wonder if a deal was done with the ex Charlton manager last weekend. We know Mr Pardeux likes a Frenchman.
Their young lad Perez has been doing ok for himself but they do lack a bit of forward muscle.

MawuenaCosta

am happy he would go on loan. to me, Akpom is even a better player than him

WengersNoseHair

Yeah. Sit back and watch all our forward break their shins in January. Garuanteed.

Jack4343

Don’t see why he can’t fit at Sunderland in place of Jozy Altidore. They have been giving Jozy one last shot at making a difference but he really doesn’t seem to have the confidence to do what they need out of him. I want to see him succeed as a fellow countryman but I think he’s ran out of opportunities. Yaya doesn’t seem to be short on confidence at all judging from his quick attempt against Dortmund. He might be just what the doctor ordered and if it will help a future Arsenal player then I am all for it.

goonero

Good news everyone! Not hating on the lad, I just think he needs some experience in a slightly lower pressure environment than the loving, forgiving and slow to anger crowd at the emirates. Better for all involved

Uberstein Fuzzman

For the record, Sanogo has played very well in some of those big games. He may not have scored, but he was instrumental. So many haters. Go cheer for Spurs.

MERTESCIELNY

People forget how he changed the FA Cup Final in our favour. This player is a real asset, and i think will prove to be one over the years

DAMOBOT

People just keep banging on about his lack of goals. Nobody is a better judge of a player than Wenger. He doesn’t give a fuck about what anybody says and sticks with his instincts. He started him ahead of Giroud against Bayern against all that pressure and you say that he could handle for such an inexperienced guy. So yes I agree he will be an asset.

Chibuzor Amos

A loan will do him much good than sitting at the Arsenal bench or even left out of the team entirely. Will he be a great striker?

Gunner Ethiopia

The word scapegoat is really overused this days but if there is one person who merit the scapegoat claim, it has to be sanogo. It is even ironic that excuses that r used for other plays don’t seem to work for him. The ‘he-is-still-young’ excuses so often used for Wilshere do not seem to ring a bell when it’s for Sonogo(eventhough he is much younger than Wilshere), the ‘he-needs-time-to-get-his-rhythm-after-long-injury’ excuses of Ramsey are not be found anywhere when it’s for Sonogo & the ‘it-takes-time-to-settle-to-a-new-league’ excuse of Ozil doesn’t seem to be valid when Sonogo is concerned eventhough they joined the… Read more »

All those people who say he’s clearly a talent are bonkers. When has he shown he is clearly talented in an arsenal shirt. I’m sorry but the guy can’t even run 5 yards without stumbling, has the ball control of a nun and is just not cut out for it at this level. I’ll be absolutely fucking delighted yo be wrong but don’t think I will be.

spinner

Pies – I am in complete agreement with you. I remember there was the same hopeful sense of feeling with Francis Jeffers when he was clearly underperforming. ‘He’ll come good’, ‘give him time to develop’, ‘he’s got talent’ etc. I see many similarities with this situation. Jeffers is England U21 record scorer with 13 goals in 16 games. He even got an England cap and scored in that game. But it turned out he couldn’t deliver on his early promise and as time passed it became apparent that he was not good enough at PL level. After leaving Arsenal, he… Read more »
