We’ll just let the dust settle on that awful pun…okay, let’s continue…
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says Alexis Sanchez’s winning mentality has opened his eyes to the qualities needed to be regarded as one of the world’s best players.
Citing the Chilean striker’s appetite for hard work on a daily basis, the England international claimed the £32 million striker had been a ‘breath of fresh air’ at the Emirates since signing from Barcelona and example to his teammates.
Speaking to BT Sport moments after Alexis’ fourteenth goal of the season had sealed a last-gasp win against Southampton, the Ox remarked:
“There is no rest for him. On recovery days he wants to be playing and he is not happy if he is not allowed to play the game at the end. In training, he wants to win. He has brought that winning mentality to the side and I think it definitely rubs off on a lot of players.
“It has been an eye-opener for me. To make it to the top and to be able perform like he does week in, week out you have got to be an absolute winner and you never want to lose at all.
“He is not happy when he doesn’t score. If I scored as many goals as he has at this stage, I’d be over the moon. He has been brilliant for us and a breath of fresh air, so hopefully he can stay in the form that he is in and we can help him out to keep producing goals like he has been.”
Meanwhile, Mathieu Flamini has claimed the 1-0 victory against the Saints, represented a ‘perfect’ game.
“It was a great game – a perfect game I would say because we played very well, we were very strong at the back and at the same time we had a lot of quality up front.
“It was a true Premier League game where we were fighting on every ball. Every challenge was important.
“What a performance by the team, what spirit, and I am very happy for everyone at the club because we have been working very hard until now and we didn’t win a few games that we were supposed to win.
“[This time] we were 200 per cent in the game, fighting for every ball and it made the difference in the end. I’m really proud of the guys.”
We’re not quite sure what he’s on about; ‘perfect’ for Arseblog News would include at least one 30-yard overhead kick goal by the BFG, Arsene Wenger doing his zip up at the first time of asking and Olivier Giroud celebrating a victory with copious amounts of baby oil. We’ll just assume Mathieu is one of life’s optimists…
yep
At the end of the match, while other players laboured off having given their all, Alexis jogged off the pitch, looking like he could have played for another 120 minutes.
We might need this sort of energy in the CL final next may.
I’m one of life’s optimists as well, I guess…
I wish that was the case. Sadly, he looks like he’s showing a few signs of slowing down,, to a normal professional athete’s level.
Surely, as much as he’d hate it, we’ll have to rest him for the Galatasaray game so he can have 7 days rest before Newcastle? There won’t be too many games that AREN’T a must win anytime soon.
Very true. Sanchez has been our shining light this season, loosing him now will be catastrophic. Barring the goal in the Southampton game, he looked a bit jadded, so giving him as much rest as he can get will be very helpful.
I’m not for a moment suggesting that the Flamster isn’t quick, but is he still appealing for the penalty as Alexis wheels away to celebrate his goal in that pic??
He’s about to give the ref a hug.
The ref thinks he is Arteta.
Ox-cellent example. how words are those. I just love arseblog
meant how many words are those?
That’s a shame. I thought it was some kind of new ‘yoof’ patois…I liked it.
Honoured. Mr Bloggs replied to my comment. In my wildest dreams, I cant fathom why! I know this may expose my behaviour as unhealthy but I dont give a dice. Am gonna print this out and gluevit to my bedroom ceiling just so I enjoy it every morning I wake up except of course on mornings after an Arsenal loss or draw
Ox-cellent is one word, like box. Or two words, like ox-eyed.
I think am gonna need the Arseblog dictionary soon. and one for abbreviations. Somedays it takes me a long while to understand what Mr bloggs may be saying. See am not a slow learner but am not british or even close to that. but each day I read Mr Bloggs and Rumbling Pete, well, lets just say it makes me feel british. For a while.
I’m going to burst your bubble…you’ve got the ‘wrong’ Andrew replying to you. Apologies for the let down. I do this a lot.
No. you wont. my bubble is burst-proof. ‘Wrong’ Andrew? I can live with it
My idea of the perfect game involves a Giroud hat trick, Arteta penalty in the 92nd minute, a Costa straight red, a Maureen touchline meltdown and a clean sheet. But that’s just me.
Fabregas own goal?
What about Terry slipping cause he’s a cunt?
In that case we need to ask our office member Diaby to ‘terminate’ Terry once more.
idiots who booed wenger for subbing out Ox. it worked perfectly. WENGER KNOWS.
Personally, I fucking hate our own crowd booing, and protesting, and moaning and whinging. It’s fucking embarrassing, degrading, and needs to stop. We’re just going in to a busy period, and the team (including the manager) need support, not booing like little fucking kids who haven’t got what they want.
Well fucking said.
I couldn’t agree more.
Supporters SUPPORT through good n bad times.
I think to many papers with Man Utd/Chelsea journalista are influeicning fans in the wrong way.
absolutely agree. quite a few ppl could take a leaf out of BVB fan’s books
Cute baby
Thanks… We like him too!
He’s got an Arsenal baby grown which Theo took round the dressing room and got all the players to sign!
I’m gonna frame it and hang it on his bedroom wall. Indoctrination! Since I moved to the South West, his local club would be Torquay Utd, and nobody wants that for their kids!
PS: He’s called Freddie, and he’s also fuckin’ excellent!
Has he got red hair? and is he everywhere?
True. The whole game I was stood next to some hoxton yuppie type prick who just kept bitching and whining any time arsenal didn’t have the ball. Didn’t join in a single song of course. I honestly wanted to push the tosser off the upper tier
I didn’t boo at home, but thought Ramsey should have come off…then Rambo pops up with the assist.
I hope Wenger proves me wrong again and again and again!
Olivier Oil.
Damn. There’s a business idea.
Oilivier
This feels like that awkward moment the Dassler brothers decided to go their separate ways.
As long as he has used it on himself first <3 loool
Popeye?
how many lungs does Alexis have?
I’m shocked at the shift he puts in week in week out
Not sure my heart can take these “perfect” games then!! Defending as a team with much more confidence now. Lets see how a cold rainy afternoon in Stoke goes. A win there would be perfect!
Alexis passion for the game is from another planet…… It will be good if others can learn from it and transfer it to every game. We will be having a bunch of hungry lions on the pitch…. Wenger got his subs right this time because he is not forced by injury or the fear of second yellow card….. COYG
That’s exactly it, usually by time the 2nd half rolls around we’ve already used one sub as an injury replacement and usually have one or two more who could at any point crumble and need to be taken off. With the squad we have WHEN everybody/majority are fit (yeah i know that’s a big when) we have so many options that can change a game, imagine last nights squad but with Ozil & Walcott to come in. Wenger needs to be not stick to the same XI and mix it up, who knows what could end up being the combination… Read more »
Alexis is amazing no doubt about it, but he is going to need a break before long lest he suffer a notorious Arsenal injury. He must be nearing the fabled ‘red zone’. If not now then certainly in the new year. Rotation A.W, please!
The perfect game? Don’t think so, but it did annoy Piers Moron so it was close to a perfect game.
I know what Flamini is getting at though. If in the past we have been guilty of making it easy for teams to hit us on the counter, yesterday was evidence that we have tightened the holes in defence at the cost of having to be patient for our chances. The discipline required must be immense and it seemed to work. Good on them.
They are not soldiers at war. They are footballers. I don’t buy into all this support at any cost business. If fans are unhappy about a decision or how a game is going they have every fucking right to express it.
The same way we support them when they do well. I would rather booing than morons running on the pitch or chucking stuff on the pitch. I did not boo but if people that pay good money want to express displeasure by booing then so be it…
Boooooooooooooo
I’m indifferent to booing your own team. I’d never do it personally but I can see why people do. Whether someone is “justified” in booing depends on whether they’re “justified” in being frustrated or upset. For example, I don’t think people were complaining about booing after the 3-3 with Anderlecht.
Reminds of a certain Messi, before he lost interest in football. I’m not saying Alexis will become as good as Messi, but he definitely has the passion that all Barca players had at the peak of their Guardiola-era.
I love Arseblog and come here to read comments first & the post later!
Will we do it on a cold night in Stoke?
As long as everyone in the squad gets a sip from the bottle of what Alexis drinks, we will!
COYG ♥
“Will we do it on a cold night in Stoke?” – sounds like an Orc pickup line
I’ve definitely noticed some of the other players, particularly the OX, working very hard out there on the pitch. Alexis is absolutely rubbing off on the others players. Its almost like they feel obliged to work harder since they see this other guy out there running his heart out.
Yes, that’s for certain, Santi also worked really really hard as well, you rarely saw him so far back in the defensive third. Seems like the 32mil man not only brings in goals, he brings in the motivation as well.
What is the chance that Alexis is drinking what Ramsey has last season, but they only have enough for one player…well I tried. Dumb in the end.
We need Alexis.
He needs to have 7 days off, including light practices.
No sex, lots of resting, body massages, and watch movies at home with girlfriend, maybe have her take care of him.
Glad to hear those positive post game comments by the Ox. Did anyone else notice that he looked mighty perturbed to be subbed off. He had a stroppy look like he was going to march down the tunnel. To be fair, at the time I thought Ramsey and maybe even Santi were below par as well and they also logged more mins than the Ox in last game. We won and it worked out well so no complaints. Happy for the Flamster as well. He has simplifyed things and is strictly a shield now not even attempting to go up… Read more »
Alexis is basically the Ronaldo of Arsenal.
A lil bit off topic. Heard Rozza7’s gonna come in handy during the festive (he’s grown white beards and will be used as Santa Claus at Arsenal’s Christmas party)WENGER sure KNOWS, doesn’t he?
*period*
