Arsenal have completed the signing of Polish teenager Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.5 million.
The 17-year-old midfielder has made six first team appearances since signing for Legia from Lech Poznan in August and is understood to have impressed Arsene Wenger during a trial at London Colney in December. German side Hamburg had also shown an interest before the Gunners sent Dick Law to hammer out the details.
Despite his tender years Bielik has already sprouted to a statuesque 6ft 2 inches and is being touted as a future physical presence in the heart of the midfield.
Arseblog News doesn’t really expect to see him in the first team this season, although Arsene Wenger has already intimated he’ll chuck the lad in at the deep end.
He’s the third Pole to sign for the Gunners from Legia, following in the be-gloved footsteps of Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny.
We’ve done some research and the name Bielik means ‘droopy, girthful sausage’ in Polish, which may go some way to explaining his knowing look in the above picture and why the lad has been labelled the ‘new Vieira’ in some quarters.
Don’t expect miracles from the lad but it’s somewhat comforting to think that AW is perhaps shifting his thoughts towards adding more physique to the side going forward.
“Oh my, no quotes from Arsene about him..”
Remember when people were worried about that when we signed Welbeck?
There’s been plenty of quotes from Wenger about this guy – including saying he will be in the first team squad, and that it is a gamble he thinks will pay off.
Welcome to the club son.
Now make it happen.
Looks a real prospect by all accounts. Its staggering the amount of people who complain about us buying players for the future. Too many are too impatient and want players now. Its one of the reasons what makes Arsenal & Arsene so great, always looking to the clubs long term prospects & what is best for the club. I remember when we signed Oxlade, people were in uproar because they percieved him to be a waste of money which could of better be used elsewhere. He has however been one of our best players this season & still has huge… Read more »
I agree about Chambo – sometimes I find myself getting frustrated with him, like against City on the weekend when his touch was slightly off. But then I remember he’s only 21.
I think it’s a testament to the lad that I (along with probably a lot of other Arsenal fans) expect him to consistently be awesome, whereas the reality is that he’s still very much is a young first team player with amazing quality, bags of potential, and like he so often says himself, lots to learn/improve.
His touch may have been off, but his physicality and direct running gave City a nightmare to deal with on the flank.
i remember Kolo Toure’s debut, i remember him being bought as a striker, i remember Gael Clichy almost loosing his head when replacing Cashley in his fringe years..damn, i remember Thierry before he adapted to the PL..as Arsenal fans we’ve seen many young players come and go, but lets be real, Wengah has the eye for a talent, just probably believes too much in some fringe players when all they really need is discipline..I think if he was real and honest with RvP and not actually “loving” him, we would have had a different result up until now…the problem is,… Read more »
Well, most of us wants to see arsene wenger win the title during his last two seasons at the club. Bielik is a great signing for the future as you say, but we will need to add experience if we are going to challenge for the big trophies next season. I hope there are another signing to come as well, because I somewhat doubt that the lad will be good enough to start week in and week out in case of a koscielny/mertesacker injury.
So that means we should spend like chelsea manu and man city? no thanks.
and if u are saying “challenge for big trophies next season” why the fuck cant we sign him now?
got the entire summer to get one or two big signings to help us improve further.
and finally this guys predominantly a CDM not a CB so that last line is also stupid like the rest of your comment.
Don’t be so bloody rude. The guy was just giving an opinion. Whether you agree or not you don’t have to attack him for what was a fairly reasonable point. You can’t say Beilik is not one for the future and everyone else seems to be saying we need some experience in defence.
When you think about it that’s the only way a club like us can function considering we’re not blessed with oil money. Should the worst happen in that we lose some top players look at the prospects that we have to replace them. Look at these examples(hypothetical obviously) Walcott out – Gnabry in Debuchy out – bellerin/jenks in arteta out – bielik in ramsey out – zelalem in giroud out – akpom in I think it’s safe to say that they’re replacements will be more than capable of dealing with the premier league at some point which is really comforting… Read more »
That’s nonsense that it’s the only way a club like us can be run, we have a spare £100 million available in the bank and £80-90 million of surplus revenue for each of the next four seasons on top of that figure, that’s £420million over the next four and a half seasons, not to mention the CL money is rising by 30% next season. I have no problem with blooding youngsters, but we’re now in a position to make the next 4 years very successful ones whilst living well within our means, we need to start acting like a big… Read more »
I can’t let you go with your astonishing display of mathematics.
FYI, Arsenal’s net profit before tax in the year ending of 2014 is 4 million bucks.
A far cry from your 80-90m. You and your 6 friends ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
Want to thumb me down? Please go to Arsenal.com and verify the figures first.
agree with you 100% mate
Pucker those lips up nice and sweet for Arsene’s rear end, pucker up son
you can always go to the lane
He’s already there. Do not feed the troll.
Young talent is fine, but when we rely on the talent to at all field a first 11 and it is costing us alot points, then it has gone abit to far in my opinion. Why should we strictly be a farmer club of talent who is picked up by the title aspiring clubs when they are good enough for a real top clubsfirst 11. How many of the players we have developed have not t gone on to be key players at our direct rivals and other big clubs? In my opinion we should not need to rely on… Read more »
You’ll have to get your Droopy Girthful sausage self past arsene’s coq standard.
Go on the Krystians – Screw the Lions
Welcome to the club
Bielik actually means “bald eagle”. I remember being very confused when looking at Google Images without entering his full name in.
Bald Eagle or Girthy Sausage – he still has to get past Arsene’s Coq standard.
In fact he will have to coq block his way onto the team
Francis has just Coq blocked his starting 11 chance
I get it!
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20150121/arsenal-complete-krystian-bielik-deal
Arsenal have confirmed it too.
Hopefully more to come! 😀
What number is he does anyone know?
‘Bielik’ also is the name of the Eagle 🙂 I never heard about sausage called Bielik and I live in Poland for some time 😉 COYG! 🙂
Amazing that we actually have a Jan signing. Next season I will personally tell you how good he is when i vs him in the FA Youth Cup. Anyway welcome Bielik
Just stay away from Szczesny. He’s bad influence!
They will be poles apart
I Warsaw that one
That’s not great but i’ll Legia get away with it
I reckon he’ll Zloty in nicely with the rest of the boys
Girthful Sausage alongside Le Coq
Surely that’s boasting!!
Bielik is a very rare type of eagle from polish mountain region… Anyone who is connecting his name with any type of sausage – obviously must be some kind of spazdik…:)))
Bielik means top… Hopefully we will see it soon!
In a few years the midfield will be him and Zelalem, two well over 6ft.
Zelalem is 5’11” 😉
Zelalem is magical and will grow to 6’5″ before next season.
Also remember Pogba was a kid when he left Man U and made an instant impact at Juve, no he’s only 21 and been around forever. When you’re ready you’re ready, forget about age.
Serie ‘A’ and the PL are different animals. We don’t have any easy games in the PL but the lower end of ‘A’ is comparatively weak. I don’t expect to see this lad start a 1st team game for 12-24 months (except maybe the Tinpot Cup), but hope he sees some bench/late-sub time together with Zelalem and M-Niles etc, to get the experience they need (and Pogba got).
Welcome Bielik he will some competition and make the 3 way fight for DM position interesting..COYG
Imagine a midfield of coq and sausage
His imposing height has an advantage in the box too as all his five career goals have been from headers.
Doesn’t he look like a young Sczczesny in the pic? Welcome to the club!
Lets hope the cheque book hasnt been put away yet we still need two more signings.
One for the future…. if hes good enough and he’s needed he’ll play.
Welcome to thof lad and good luck.
I’m only expecting a CB, as they suggested.
For anything else we’ll be waiting until summer.
damn you blogger. reading the knowing look comment made me look silly attempting to suppress a laugh at work.
welcome to Arsenal son. Now you need to sing us a nice polish number.
Welcome to the family Bielik.
I can actually see him double pivoting the midfield with the coq as early as next season.
YOU CAN SEE INTO NEXT SEASON???!?!?!!?!!!?!
Apparently there is no joy in watching the games anymore cos he knows what happens already
Yup I can see like Arsene can see a foul
Just heard he got injured in the club photo shoot. Slipped on a camera lens….having both legs amputated as I type.
He strained his wrist signing the forms!
Welcome to Arsenal, son. The greatest club in the world. We’ll throw you in at the deep end hope you brought your swimming trunks.
I’m sure he’ll do very well. I’m not worried about his talent at top level. Fans just need to give him time to develop.
Finally! Someone Szczesny can speak Polish to!
He now has someone to sneak fags into the training ground for him. Duty free ones to
and share a sly fag in the showers … wait, that doesn’t sound right.
Bring on Brighton!
2.5 million pounds. A huge money for a 17year old. There really must be something special in the kid. Hope he makes his mark.
Given that le coq will retain his place, which of Flamini or Bielik gets the spot on the bench?
those last 2 paragraphs shouldn’t have made be laugh
I hope he turns out to be non injury prone Diaby
His name also means, ‘white tailed eagle’ according to wikkipedia….
so it could be a deep midfield pairing of
droopy girthfull sausage – Coq
for tough away games?
Krystian isn’t old enough to but fags for Szcz yet
I love it when we sign young prospects. Watching them develop is always fascinating. Good luck Beilik, welcome to the Arsenal.
Finally a Polish player whose name I’ll be able to spell without double checking, yes!
Me too. Beilik…. Oh wait. Its Bielik, right?
Haha… ‘i’ before ‘e’ excpet after ‘c’. Done!
The Coq is the new Vieira……. Uncompromising..
Shut the back door lmao
This is a sensible move. With BOTH Flamini and Coquelin providing robust cover, we can afford to load up for the future. He will prob develop over next 2 to 3 seasons. Come summer we retain the possibility of bringing in an Arteta replacement. Alternatively we can go for someone with more forward potential and height like Diaby (or for the matter play Bielik early) Or we can still add at Cback should we get the likes of Gabriel and push him into a midfield holding role. We will also likely add a creative player in place of Rosicky in… Read more »
I have a feeling, this boy will emerge next season, The Prof knows. Fingers crossed.
Omg. Krystian Bielik = Chris Eagles!
We’ve signed Chris Eagles!!!!
