Video: Francis Coquelin performance v Man City

One of the outstanding players in yesterday’s 2-0 win over Man City, here’s Francis Coquelin’s performance at the Etihad.

Video credit to: Arsenal Editor (great performance, not sure about the musical choice – mute is good for this one!).

Mr. White

Pure arsenal type defensive mid. Small, quick, nippy, good passer, good on the ball. So so happy with him making the grade cos he came through the ranks with us. Fully deserves a 10 year contract out Coq hah

DFS

That smile on Giroud’s face as he looks over at a jubilant Coquelin is priceless!!

frost

he is winning headers against fernandinho and fernandho.

John

He was brilliant, he needs to work on finding his man on those contested headers in the middle. From what I saw from his performance yesterday, that is the only raw part of his game. on a side note, https://twitter.com/ArsenalQuizz/status/556885325822566400/photo/1 .

Arseblood

Gotta love Coq……and to think he was under our noses all the time…..

DFS

He was just immense in this game.

No price high enough to pay for the injection of confidence. To see someone screaming at one and all to keep their shape was fantastic (and thats something he did from the first game recalled back from Charlton).

Spirit, total spirit.

Phil

Well, in all fairness, Flamini’s absolutely brilliant at the screaming part, it’s just everything else that’s a bit lacking.

onearsenewenger

lol at that tag . coqmovies u outdid yourself 10/10.

DR

Absolutely brilliant.

Guess he was Wenger’s “Secret Weapon”.

Edders

On MOTD last night, even Robbie Savage was drooling over Arsene’s Coq

BillyBatts

What a mental image to conjure…

Double98

He is fast disproving the consensus that he is not the player we need – if he can play against the man city midfield like this you have only got to worry about how he would fare against a midfielder like toure… but a. you dont play against them every week and b. Coq hasnt had a chance to be tested against him… may be this coq has a beast mode that he hasnt had to use yet. We keep saying its only hull, or its only west ham. now its only the champions and he neutralised what Thierry Henry… Read more »

midgunner

Had to thumb you up for that last line alone…

northerngoon

Agreed. Clever.

Coquelin was always good but his injuries kept him from showing what he could do properly. Class act; was gutted when he was farmed out but it makes it even sweeter now he’s back and kicking arse.

Dick Swiveller

Well, people keep assuring me that Arteta was awful so if even he can outplay Toure (in the Community Shield), then it can be assumed that the Coq would simply destroy him.

KtheGunner

That last line, brilliant Sir!

Alexstratz

Well let’s not get ahead (of us) for Coq. He has proved he can keep it clean against the best. He still has to prove he can last long enough, stay consistent for a while season.

Alexstratz

“whole” I meant (kinda kills the Coq pun)

Jawdan

He was almost flawless yesterday. I really wasn’t sure he could make the step-up despite the performances against Hull and Stoke. He took David Silva out of the game completely and it was wonderful to watch

bonbonbon

Coq: “Fuck you, fuck off, nope you can get to fuck, go fuck yourself, not today fucktard, fucking ‘ave it, fuck that, fuck that too, no fucking way mate, give over fuckhead, fuck off, fuck that aaaaaaaand we’re fucking done. Good game lads.”

Gooner Smurf

Who’s talking to? I hope it was nasri. And yes I know he wasn’t playing

Rosicky's Little Toe

It was during the game against Hull. Loved him for that, though can’t remember who it was directed at.

Hard Coq

Good lad!

Slippery Eel

Still early days, but will be so stoked if Coq makes the DM position his own… A great story. Seems to have the attitude we’ve lacked for so long.

Andre's Sandals

He’s so motivated to prove himself. Very refreshing!

brdgunner

I would defintely keep him in the squad, Flamini is going in the summer so Coquelin is the ideal replacement. Already knows the team, the style, DOESN’T ROAM FORWARD, ideal addition to the squad. However, I would still like someone else to come in. If he keeps it up till season end, then excellent. Lets try him out, however, I am not convinced by his distribution. We already have Sanchez who is given a little licence with his passing, if we add Coquelin it could be an issue for us. Whatever happens, he has proved to be a fantastic addition… Read more »

Emanafc

Who cares about his relatively small size? We love our Coq 😀

Rosicky's Little Toe

27 seconds in. One of my favourite moments of the match, along with the two goals (obviously), Santi’s dance, santi’s quick feet and Rosicky’s sublime pass late in the game.

Ger

Mr Blogs
I remember a comment recently you made ( after his first game back, I believe ) , that he had no long term future at the club…………………
I love the fact that you are, after all, human!!

Bouldy's Tupee

Blogs, but oh, that feeling you had about winning this game. You were right all along… But that feeling, could’ve of been Arsene’s Coq?

Nonetheless, Outstanding display and important win for Arsenal. COYG!

goonero

People were questioning if he could handle a high pressure high intensity stage like the middle eastlands, our coq proved he can rise to the occasion.

Jim

Amazing how many headers he wins for such a short guy

Dylan

This thing is about our Coq is that size doesn’t matter.

YouTube Graduate

Gotta love that pic. Coquelin screaming his lungs out. Giroud: ‘Oui Bellerin, have some of my handsomeness but, le Coq is très magnifique’. Meanwhile, Ramsey to Alexis: ‘Yes way! You do too owe me a Panini sticker! Wenger said so – and it’s a CB’

Karl

Could this be shades of a similar Arsenal story concerning a certain infamous left back? He was on loan to Palace I think around 2000 but then Sylvinho got injured so he was called back and the rest was history!!
Its not just this game the Coq has been great, he’s been showing he could really be a very important link the past few games. He’s 24 too which I think is perfect age for someone that could make that position theirs for years!

gunnersaurusismydad

He was great yesterday he’s put in great performances against the lesser teams and it’s so good to see him do it to a big one…. I can only hope he goes from strength to strength he is still young….. We might have a world beater!!

P.s completely off topic but does anyone know where I can find a gif/vine/video of Mertesacker’s sublime drag back from yesterday??

COYG!!

gunnersaurusismydad

Cheers buddy!!

goontang

You were right, it was better muted.

Ger

It’s great to have a clean sheet after Coq has been having fun

David

I keep saying he remind me a bit of gilberto silva, which imo, was what we’ve been missing, people keep saying we need a new vieira and all, and althought he was great for us and losing him was a big let down, i think losing gilberto silva hurted us more and we havent have someone like him in quite a few, so hopefully coq can be that one to replace him

ebooeboue

I don’t quite like all these comparisons between Le Coq and Song, as if Song is some perfect DM that our Coq should aspire to be.

The only good thing that I remember Song doing was playing some great through balls to the Dutch Skunk. Other than that, I seem to recall him being lazy in chasing back, and not that great of a protection for our back four.

Tbh I prefer what our Coq has been doing (to Song, that is). I don’t care if he doesn’t play caviar passes, I just want him to be firm and hard.

Burn Baby Burn

You’d think city would have stopped passing it to him.

charlesandeddie

I agree with the comparison to gilberto… i dont nescessarily feel in this day and age some hulking great man mountain is what we need as has been alluded to in the past.. weve always just needed someone who is a positionally astute, stays disciplined/focused and whose first instinct to keep things tidy and not look to bomb forward. With the emergence of players like schneiderlin you are seeing it more that football intelligence is much more important in this position that ‘gettin stuck in’ and now thankfully we seem to have this type of player in coquelin. I said… Read more »

David

In all honesty I hope he leaves because I do not like the very rude coq jokes.

Julian gooner

i hope you leave

kebabsmasher

I am loving the Coq and cheers 4 the heads up re mute.

Eddee

The team is so much discipline and with the big Coq in the middle.
