Arsene Wenger has extolled the virtues of new boy Krystian Bielik, but hinted that the youngster is more likely to have an impact on the future than this season.
The Polish midfielder only turned 17 on January 4th and to expect him to come into this Arsenal team and be ready seems fanciful.
However, the Arsenal manager revealed he’d seen things in training this week which augured well for the future.
“I would say, considering his age, he’s more one for the future,” he told Arsenal Player.
“But let’s be open minded and let him surprise us. The first signs that we see are very positive in training.
“He’s a young boy and he has a huge talent.”
Bielik is also lacking fitness due to the winter break in Poland so that’s an issue now too, so we’ll have to see how quickly he forces his way into the manager’s thinking.
Meanwhile, having missed out on the FA Cup final last season, Theo Walcott says he’s itching for the club to get back to Wembley in this season’s tournament.
“For me personally it would be fantastic to do well in the cup because of the disappointment of last year,” he said.
“That is something I am desperate to achieve this year. It was hard to take definitely, missing the final, but it is one of those things that happen in football and things happen for a reason.”
Quite philosophical really, but sometimes things happen for no reason at all.
Like POLTERGEISTS!
High praise for the new Vieira.
Let’s not put too much pressure on him…
heh.
My sixteen year old 6 foot 2 tall son has problems doing some of the basics of life – let’s not forget how young 17 is, in so many ways.
I have a 6’4 17 year old who rarely leaves his bedroom.
try cutting off his internet…
What kind of monster are you? Jesus!
It’s ironical when someone says ‘the next Vieira’ then follows it by saying ‘let’s not pressure him.’ Dude, calling him Vieira gives the boy psychological pressure considering you already are demanding something big.
Tell us more about this ironical
Given these definitions: ironic: containing or exemplifying irony ironical coincidental; unexpected ironical: pertaining to, of the nature of, exhibiting, or characterized by irony or mockery using or prone to irony The only difference I could plausibly assert is that ironical means it uses irony, where ironic means it is an example of irony. That is, this conclusion of this book is ironic. This ironical book is a good, fun read. This ironical author is one of my favorites. Parenthetically speaking, the inclusion of ironical in the definition of ironic makes sense in this interpretation because an example of irony must… Read more »
Krystian, I didn’t think you would read this. If you do, can speak English and don’t have enough of a sense of humour to understand my comment, let us know. We’ll be more guarded in our comments in future.
Good luck in your Arsenal career.
Is the headline a double enténdre? Are we going to have more of the “get your Coq out” jokes because of his “huge talent” (cough) Blimey said the cheery cockney stereotype we’re back in Carry On territory here ain’t we?
Like with Sanogo. He was thrown in at the Deep end, unfortunately he struggled to swim. But he had a good debut for Palace, and hopefully he can build momentum and come back to us at the Level required to justify a place regularly in the first 11 of a title aspiring team.
Cesc was thrown in the deep end and I’m sure we all agree that he did well. It depends on the individual
The 2-faced Spaniard had some poor games …. more like ‘ineffective’ games when he first played in the 1st team, but he was remarkably consistent for his age. That’s very rare.
Mr Wenger making sure the club is in a good position even after he leaves in 2 years unlike a certain red nosed scot who left an ageing average squad for his successor
Fair point, well made
I misread ‘scot’ as ‘snot’, but I suppose that would suffice as well.
Wenger is not leaving and iam not complaining, you’ll see.
I don’t think people realise the fantastic foundations we have for at least 7 years.
Schezney, Chambers, Jenkinson, Gibbs, The Ox, Sanogo(still not 20), Wilshere, Ramsey, Me Coq and of the newly acquired Bielik!!!
The fact is we already have met the accumulated minimum quota of 8 Home-grown players.
If this core group remains together a Champions league final should be on the horizan given we keep adding quality players like Debuchy, Kosc and Sanchez.
COYG!!!
Not that it’s a big deal but Sanogo is 21 and turns 22 on 27 January.
Also, Alexis has only just turned 26, so hes got a good 5 or 6 years at this level. Özil is also only 26 so 6 or so years there too
You may add Akpom ang Gnbary. .
Unless he signs a new contract and stays even longer of course.
best point of the day, thank you.
Things happen for a reason…. I love you Theo, and hopefully one day you pull an Henry and move in off the wing and dont stop scoring, but what possible “reason” could any higher power have for crippling our squad year in and year out? So that you guys can all learn valuable life lessons and come back better people? I doubt it.
Silly thing to say that.
I’m at lose…
This is the strangest thing I’ve read all day and I’ve just come from Reddit.
Welcome to the new Amaury Rodriguez-Mendez Eisfeld!!!
Or the new Vieira. a Polished Vieira ,not the raw Vieira we previously had
Can imagine him bossing the midfield in years to come, freeing up Zelalem and Crowley to, as they say in more refined circles, “fuck some shit up”.
Why is he holding a shirt when he’s already wearing one? Unless we have some new headless player which is our future signing?
Like poltergeist
If the picture had audio you’d hear “Wanna buy a shirt”?
Just curious and I would apprecaite some info.
Theo got injured in a FA cup game against Sp*rs.
Doesn’t that mean that since he actually featured in the competition he automatically qualifies to get a medal?
Thanks.
If I’m not mistaken, the FA would distribute twenty-something medals and the winning club would distribute those at their own discretion.
The hell with FA cup, Wolcott should be having impact on champions league and should Wilshere. Can’t wait for these two to be at their best.
With our injury record im surprised young talent dare to take the risk. Something is wrong at some Level withIn our club either it be the surface we play/train on or in the way or amount we Train that ultimately cause injuries to be more probable at our club than it is elsewhere.
Agree there is a problem to be looked at. However, the silky smooth play is not appropriated in this league. Kicking our players have been a tactics for long for most team we play in the league and is greatly enjoyed by the media and pundits as well. Its no surprise that players like Diaby, Ramsey (not to forget Edwardo) struggle, due to the cruelty dished out to them. Reyes was literally kicked out of this league. It is speculation on my part but my guess is, we will not suffer so many injuries, with the style of play we… Read more »
Vieira, Ashley Cole, Gibbs, Clichy, Cesc, Theo, RVP, Wilshere, Ramsey are some of the talents that did make it. There are injuries, but the only big club at which there is a reasonable chance for a young talent to make it, is still Arsenal.
I second that statement, and the ‘fans’ would be fools not to recognise that factor….
If Wenger doesn’t comit after the two years he is a traitor. It’s not a secret that Monaco tried lure him by doubing his wages few years back and last year PSG tried even more. He signed anyway. So after management unless he goes upstairs it will be a betrayal IMO
Thanks for sharing. Always good to get another perspective no matter how mental it is.
Why is he holding a shirt and wearing one as well? Does he really need two shirt for that photo?
Enthusiasm! He has just signed for arsenal.
Perhaps the first shirt got injured?
NEW BOY HAS ‘HUGE TALENT’
I bet he does…
ooh err missus
I am keen to how he will turn out in comparison to the Norway starlet sighed by Real. Something tells me we got the better deal
Sadly Odegaard looks a class apart to me.
The shirt he is holding, is the one he just washed, and looking for a place to dry it.
Krystian “two shirts” Bielik
I wonder what will be best for his development next year to be sent out on loan or to gain a spot on the team and play periodically. There are players like Ramsey, Wilshere, Walcott, Chamberlin, Cesc, etc. that have come in and played meaningful minutes as youngsters. I think of that group only Wilshere went on loan to Bolton briefly (though could be wrong). Probably won’t get too many minutes this season, but the big decision for Wenger will come next Fall. I guess a lot depends on whether we get a top DM in like Schederlin in the… Read more »
Schederlin (as you call him) is not a DM. Neither is Arteta, Cesc, or Cabaye. They may sit deep but their skill set is so much more comprehensive then model, which everyone seems to think is THE answer to our woes. We don’t need a destructor. We need intelligent, technical and above all disciplined CMs that can do both jobs (attack and defend) eg Santi at man shitty.
‘Makele model’
Lucas Silva has gone to Real Madrid, which probably means Illarramendi is leaving, and apparently we are the club most likely to sign him, although maybe only in the summer. Illarra was highly rated before going to Real to rot on the bench. He’s still only 24, but Real Madrid will probably want to regain most of the £25m they paid for him.
has anybody seen Rambling Pete?
has anybody seen Rambling Pete?
No, I miss him 🙁
There’s only about half a million difference between the transfer fee we paid for bielik and the fee Madrid paid for Odergaard. Though I suspect the wages are not so close, and we don’t have to hire his dad as a coach.
Interesting, wish we could wind forward 10 years and compare them then.
you can’t see it but the shirt he is holding is pickles o’toole
