Francis Coquelin says he’s looking forward to the ‘massive atmosphere’ of the north London derby as Arsenal look to continue their five-game winning streak against Sp*rs.
The Frenchman is expected to anchor the Gunners midfield for the fifth Premier League match in a row and hopes to be on the winning side having experienced defeat in the corresponding fixture back in the 2011/12 season.
“It’s a massive game for the club and the fans,” the 24-year-old told Arsenal Player. “I think everyone is looking forward to it. The Manchester City match was a big one, and this one has got a special something about it.
“It’s going to be a tough game – we’re playing away over there, so it’s going to be hard. I think with the month we’ve just had, the confidence is going to be high.
“Even at youth level, we got a lot of stick from their fans and the atmosphere was really good. It just makes you want to do even better for your team and win the game.
“When you play for Arsenal against Tottenham, it’s not about just playing your game, it’s about winning. You have to win it. For the fans and the team it’s a big game and it’s one we want to win.”
Reflecting on the the 2-1 defeat in October 2011, a game in which Coquelin started in midfield alongside Mikel Arteta, he added:
“Obviously it was not a good day because we lost. Obviously you want to win these types of games. From my side hopefully I can put things right. If I’m playing in this game I want to win this game.
“At the time, it’s already three years ago, I was young, but everyone helped me a lot. It was [down to] details in that game. It could have gone either way. It went for them that time. Hopefully on Sunday Saturday it can go our way.”
We’re sure there’s a Coquelin / Spurs’ badge being a cock on a ball gag here somewhere, but we’re lacking inspiration. Feel free to lend us a helping hand.
Beware of the coq-rage, Sp*rs!!!!
Le Coq Spurstiffed
Cock on their shirt, Coq up their behinds.
If Coquelin were a January signing, we’d be going crazy over him.
Hell, we still are. Injuries ACTUALLY helped us. Like, Arteta got injured, a better player replaced him in Coquelin.
And Wilshere got injured, a better player replaced him in Rosicky. *sneaky evil smile but it’s the truth suckas* #supertom #topcoq
in fact the only thing that annoyed me about the villa game was rosicky being demoted to the bench – admittedly a minor gripe, but after the way he killed it in the prior game, not starting him was baffling. he should be in the 1st 11 for the north london derby without question, and i don’t care who has to sit to make room for him.
I know he looks like a 25-year-old, but I still think it’s wise to not play Rosicky every week. That way he might last five more years.
Fully expect Rozza to start against Spurs though. Think using Ozil was the right call against Villa, he destroyed them, and we’ll have a fresh Rosicky to hopefully smash in another belter form 25 yards.
Quite a different player to Arteta. But certainly has proved (so far) better than Flamini.
#MonsterCoq
You’ll come all drooling back when wilshere hits top form. We know what he is capable off. Wenger wouldn’t just give wilshere.. bergamps jersey for no reason !
I really hope you’re right (although, please do spell Bergkamp’s name correctly) but sadly, we can’t rely on a player who is constantly getting injured and is in the papers for the wrong reasons.
Wilshere needs to have a look at Ramsey and the rest and realise that it’s going to be a lot tougher for him to get back in the team.
I no longer think he’s ever going to reach the super quality level that seemed most likely when he first emerged in the team
The same jersey that was given to Gallas…
One thing Jack & Gallas have in common is they both like a ciggy… Must be Arsenes fault as he loved a smoke and now has Chezza doing his best to show him how bad he wants the jersey.
Our coq is bigger than theirs. And he’s hard.
This guy is a genuine ball winner, a bit of a bastard, exactly what we need. Hope he’ll do well to reinforce the belief that he is the solution.
This is the beauty of a beast coming through the system. He knows we just want to put the scums to a sword.
They got the wrong Coq on their badge and we shall show them once again who is truely the Kings of North London!!!
Forever COYG!!!
I wonder how many times he will tell Sp*rs players to STFU
Win this game, and we can go on a real run.
I see only one outcome…3 points.
If other reaults go our way, we’ll be third by next week. COYG.
Off topic but Dortmund is in real trouble. They are not only bottom, but lost at home again tonight. Terrible times. To think that if many had their way, Jurgen Klopp would be in the Emirates dug-out as we speak. Can you really see Arsenal plummet like that under Arsene? Don’t think so. So glad we have this man at Arsenal at this point. To pioneer the building of the stadium and still keep the team in the top four in a league that is more competitive than the Bundesliga is nothing short of a miracle. Dortmund have only lost… Read more »
Only Goetze and Lewandowski? They lost their 2 best players to their biggest rivals, and maybe a 3rd this summer (Reus).
What you basically did here was question the original comment, state exactly the same facts it gave, then make a random speculation. It’s actually making my head hurt a bit trying to work out how your opinion is different from the original.
They’ve definitely had more than 3 injured players, but good points none the less.
And we lost our best players at a pace of 1 to 2 a year for how long yet still maintained?
So they lost the players to BM. How many teams are placed between them?
Agreed, I think all you did was prove MM’s point.
But that does not explain why they are bottom. We could lose Alexis, Ramsey, Ozil, Walcott and Kos this year and next year we will still be in the top half of the table. I am not saying that we would do well or be happy, but there is no way that we would be anywhere near the bottom half way through the season.
Didn’t we lose RVP, Nasri, Adebayor, Clichy, Sagna, Toure to direct rivals plus Fabregas, Song, Henry, Hleb, Vermaelen to Barcelona?? Point is we maintained 4th place through the tough times, Dortmund are bottom of Bundesliga just 18 months after reaching the CL final…
Exactly, well said.. credit where credit is due…. and silence from the #wengerouts, refreshing…
We have managed to get higher than 4th in the last 8 years as well!
All this bollocks about 4th is our target, it’s the worst case target like every other team in the Pl and most can’t achieve it.
I predict a clean sheet.
I predict a riot
I’m a kid, who’s got a lot of problems
and if i throw a brick,
maybe the brick will go and solve them.
Oh yeah, i wanna riot

I don’t understand why you posted this…
meh, song popped into my head when i read the comment. less asinine than some comments, more than others
You’re so vain. You probably think this song is about you,
Don’t you
Dont you
Don’t you…

Adrian Durham annoys the living shit out of me.
that twat aint worth any gooner’s attention
if you don’t already check it out (after reading Arseblog, of course), you should read Media Watch on Football365. Too funny and they always make fun of Durham.

Thanks David good tip! Lets win the league at that shithole.
Just as their badge indicates, the Coq will stamp on their balls.
Good one.
Except they only have one ball.
We know a song about that, don’t we children….?
A scrappy 1 nil will do nicely. This is one game I’ll hate to see us concede a goal in, especially from the “Andy Carol 2.0” Harry Kane! Another group selfie on their ground after a comprehensive rout will set the tone of my weekend. Let’s smash the lil’ fuckers!!!
A thumping 6-0 will do even better. After those cunts nicked a point at our placed last fall, I want to fucking embarrass them in front of their ignorant and rancid supporters.
I’ll take a 2-0 with Theo WALKING off the field giving them the new salute.
Can we have Akpom come on and score a goal? Start his legendary streak at 19?
I just hope for a good win, no injuries, and alexis and Co. fuckin up all those unknown spurs defenders ” kyle wanker, Eric dick, Jan vagina and of course hymen lloris ” COYG
No need for all that. Just a game of football and not biology.
Is he 24 or 23?
The game is Saturday Francis
All together now “We’ve only got one Coq!” … COYG!
ehhh, may send the wrong message
“If I’m playing in this game…” – like that about him, still doesn’t take his starting place in the team for granted. This guy is a fighter.
Cocksucpurs
It was foretold that coq will rule the world, just look at spurs logo,
entirely different matter the Totts did not get the prophecy and ended up placing a cock on their logo instead..
Reading back my comment I can see why double sarcasm may not work.
So can I say those who know the spurs logo are paying too much attention to them..
(;->)
I’m expecting a 6-0 victory that totally demoralizes Spurs and their supporters, sending their season spiraling and tamely ending with no trophies and a 12th place finish.
Completely unneccesary to add ‘no trophies’, that’s a given mate.
To be honest I hate to say this, but I’d rather they won they Carling cup or whatever.
Courtois 4 trophies.. pfft fuck off
For the first time, I will be looking forward to seeing a Coq on the Ball at Shite hart lane.
Sign him up.
Pretty please
Wait did I read that correctly – you need a helping hand with your coq and ball-gag?
Filth.
I don’t want us to just win. I want us to take that mangy cockerel, kill it, pluck it, cook it and serve it up to the Sp*rs faithful, forcing its rancid carcass down their miserable throats.
So, no pressure, lads.
Coq your guns GUNNERS
“Even at youth level, we got a lot of stick from their fans and the atmosphere was really good.”
Christ, I love how up for it he is. Between statements like this and his vigorous recent performances he’s really shaping up to be that roughhousing presence we’ve desperately needed.
Just got a feeling that this NLD is going to be a big one. We’re playing well, they’re playing well, 4th (and potentially more) still well up for grabs. Could be a classic; the point from where we really turned the season around, or slipped out of view. Just beat em boys.
This Coq has 2 balls!
I foresee a certain Theo Walcott holding up a two-nil sign with a smile on his face, no stretchers allowed! What a beautiful sight! COYG!!!!
bringing a kane to a coq with is just stupid imo
This he understands.
Our Coq up their arse. Coyg
That’s one almighty coq stood on those balls.
If not a little thinner than most…
It certainly wasn’t bred for being head of the table.
I am a bit worried about them, after all the manager merry-go-round they have landed a good one in Poccentino, squad is starting to gel, and Kane solved their striker problem. Be a shame when United buy him for 50m this summer though.
Still no contract signing from Coquelin? Pretty disappointing.
Patience.
I hope we Coq-block them and win 4-0
Spurs are all Ball and no Coq
I don’t want to put the kybosh on it, but looking at us at the moment I am in absolutely no doubt that the Spuds will get one hell of a beating on Saturday.
COYG!
Our coq’s bigger than yours!!!!
For the disingenuous Ronaldos of the world, the Coq restores my faith in the will of journeymen athletes.
I hope Wenger will let Rosicky get a start as he has had such great success against Spuds lately. Big question will be if Sanchez is fit who will sit – Walcott or Ozil? Assuming Wenger is going to play the Man City setup where we defend deep and look to break Walcott might be the choice. Just hope Sanchez will be fit to play. Finally, I don’t know about anyone else, but I feel as if we can’t get scored on now with Ospina in the goal. He hasn’t been tested much, but has been there and not put… Read more »
It’s a guess, but I think Walcott will sit if Alexis is ready. You simply cannot leave Ozil, Alexis, or Santi in this rich vein of form out.
Ozil is getting behind defenses, and Alexis is even more capable of doing so.
Giroud
Ozil. Alexis.
Santi
Scum should just put the brown shorts on now and be done with it.
Well, in light of the Boss’ comments, it looks like we don’t need to make room for Alexis this weekend. Walcott it is, with Welbeck off the bench once we’ve run the score up.
Brown shorts? Meaning?
For me, and I hate to say it, it’s Walcott who needs to warm the bench. I love Theo and he does score goals but so does Alexis……..but Alexis does a lot more work for the team too. I think it really comes down to a choice, providing everyone’s fit, between playing Ozil or Walcott as I feel they both offer the least defensively. For me it’s Walcott who will sit out and offer a fantastic option to come off the bench if needed/
Great warrior…. Love your fighting spirit… Another three points on Saturday…. COYG!!!!…
Hey Spurs…. “This Coqs For You!”
Ozil has to play. Simply….to win, Ozil has to start!!
I need someone to calm me down………………… We can only field 11 players on Saturday, so Hello, who doesnt play? The goalie and back four are picked already as is Coq and Rambo and Olivier. Assuming Santi cant be dropped, nor Alexis………….thats a total of 10 players already. So is it another winger,ie Ox or Theo or even Danny? Or does Ozil play? I have been predicting Wengers lineups for years, and I hate to boast but im usually correct. So for Spurs its Ozil and no recognised second wide man. Not totally comfortable with this , but we should… Read more »
Would love for us to Coq slap the Sp*ds to re-illustrate our eternal dominance.
Anyone heard the recent headlines on jack wilshere? yawwwn so tired of the same nonsense :/
North London Derby 2 : Revenge Of The Coq
has he signed a new contract yet?
I believe arsenal fc can win and i like the look of prem table positions i will add a win will be successful and pts coyg ospina looking gd for clean sheets coyg
He’s so up for it someone will have to rip the coq from their shirts.
