Serge Gnabry has declared himself ready to take part in what remains of Arsenal’s season having missed more or less a full year of football due to a knee injury.
The exciting young German was making inroads into the first team last season before the injury struck, and now he finds himself with increased competition for a place in the team.
However, he’s welcoming that and says that working in such an environment is raising standards across the squad.
“It’s very exciting,” he told Arsenal Player. “We’ve got a big squad – I’m a young player and obviously there are players like Alexis, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo. We’ve got a massive squad up front.
“I love to compete with those people and to learn from them, so I’m really happy to be involved in the team. In training, the intensity and the quality has become higher from what I’ve seen in the last couple of weeks.
“We have a lot of people who can play in the same positions, so I think the competition really elevates you.”
And having missed so much football, Gnabry is feeling good about his own fitness and readiness to play.
“I’ve been in training for a couple of weeks now and I’m feeling good and healthy. I’m in a good place. I’m feeling good, I don’t have pain in my knee anymore.
“I didn’t take part in the first half of the season but I’m hoping I will in the second.”
i’m really looking forward to his return. he was improving by leaps and bounds prior to his injury and you could see the confidence growing in him as he took on defenders more often and with more success. another exciting prospect for sure!
Great News. Will we ever again have a headline “Diaby welcomes fight for places”. I really hope so
I hope Diaby retires and gets a role at Arsenal, maybe as a scout. We owe him that at least
I’m sorry but neither Arsenal or we, I’m assuming you mean fans, owe Diaby anything. When it comes down to it. Diaby has never gotten us anywhere and has only added to the wage bill for the last 8ish years.
That bastard. I suggest we burn him on a stake.
Give the guy a break man.. Its not his fault he got injured.he clearly loves the club so if he can help out in the background then so be it
Diay should start working on a degree in sports psychology. After everything he’s been through you’d imagine he could help other professionals alot if he backs his experience up with an education in the field
How many times do you have to be told Diaby hasn’t accepted any wages while he hasn’t been playing?
And even if he has added to the wage bill for the last 8 years, clearly that hasn’t stopped us from throwing our money around like popular strippers after a night’s hard work.

Competition for places on the bench maybe! Nah joking, it’s a shame he got injured because last season he looks mature fot a young kid and always made an impact whenever he played.
Extend theo contract so we can sell him. Keep gnarby and groom him for the future. Campbell can be the backup in the wings.
i want theo to end his career woth is. not because he is a nice guy but because he delivers even when he has a “bad” game. i have yet to see anything from ox, gnabry or any other winger at arsenal other than alexis to suggest that selling theo would be a good idea. And even if everyone was as good as alexis bar theo i would still not want us to sell him…because he is a proven goal scorer. it would be absurd to get rid of him.
Great lad, was looking good before the injury. Saw him play as a youth player and he stood out then. Could be the next Sanchez.
Ex-Priest, still a w*nker.
Time to grow up son.
In all honesty, I enjoy this site because it is a place where people can express their different views on this club which we all love. We should not be ruining that by instigating flamewars or engaging in petty sniping. If you live in London and have a problem with my opinions, then let’s discuss it over a beer after a match, rather than cluttering up this place further.
Ignore the moron. Acting so bloody childish. He’d do anything for a thumbs up.
Ex-priest I don’t agree with much that you say but you got a thumbs up from me just now!
Just amazed that I got thumbed down immediately for my honest opinion. Look at the statement and explain why you disliked it and how you were the first one commenting…
You haven’t seen people’s reaction to calling Andre Santos ‘Andre San-tosser’ then! And explaining why he had a poor attitude in my opinion.
Fully open to debate on all issues (see should Henry be the next manager, currently 50/50), not getting much of that on Sol or Gnabry above.
Come on, step up and debate.
Very funny, get your views up and let’s see how they stand up.
For example, you didn’t like Sol when he scored in the final of the CL? Not just a little? Or still said ‘I never liked him’?
Funnier still, please thumb down and prove the point on the lack of debate! Though flattered to be called a boy, childish, son etc, the Charlie George signed shirt on my wall says different, just so you have an idea of my vintage.
Please debate the points on Sol and Gnabry.
The only thing sadder than a man that talks to himself is one who keeps the conversation going.
See the trolling debate under the Thierry Henry post and see if you agree with the comments on Sol Campbell.
Good to see him back and willing to fight for a place in the team. If everyone fights for his place in the team, then we are in for a hell of a ride the remainder of the season.
Let’s just hope and pray other results go our way and lets not forget the injury gods to.
I just get giddy when I think about the depth we have on this team. Not just depth in numbers, there is quality depth everywhere on the pitch. Any additions in the summer will be a bonus
For the first time since I can’t recall when, I don’t see the scope of any extra addition in this team. Maybe in the DM position because Arteta has aged and I don’t see flamini around after a year. But I think it will be fine even if we don’t bring in anybody.
LANS!!! So happy to have him back. I wonder if this was a factor in all the Jan. departures.
I want to see the squad tear down the mental peddle stood they placed teams such as ManU and Chelsea on. Once they do that, we will see a different Arsenal.
Peddle Stood?
I love this guy. He’s so dense and compact physically. Head down. Steamrolling through but with grace and confidence. Can’t wait.
Got to say i think we’ve got depth on the wings. Real depth.
Alexis, Theo, Serge, The Ox, Welbeck and the likes of santi and ozil who can play there when required. Impressive.
Thumbs up. Good point.
If Gnabry and the Ox are fit I think Walcott loses his place.
Let’s not forget we have some players out on loan too, players like campbell and jenkinson. Depth!
Compition for a place all over the team really gives me a good feeling.
that’s What I call competition for places from within and outside d team with some quality guys on loan
Did he score a vital goal past palace not so long ago? Hope he gets the chance for more of the same today
He would be great, even better if he doesnt leave Nike like Bellerin, Gibbs and Walcott.
Wilshere’s and Rosicky’s team goals last season get all the attention, but Gnabry’s goal against Swansea was right up there for me. Great goal in a tough game.
I love Serge like I love a good sandwich
