Arsenal’s Premier League fixture with Sunderland will take place on Wednesday 20 May at 7.45pm.
The match, which will now be our penultimate of the league season, had been scheduled for April but was postponed when the Gunners qualified for the FA Cup semi-final against Reading.
The Wembley showdown against the Royals has also been confirmed with kick-off set for Saturday 18 April, kicking-off at 5.20pm. BBC One will broadcast the match.
The last time we played an FA Cup match at Wembley we won!
FA Cup on BBC 1, that’s good. Though hope to be there, let’s see.
COYR.
20th of May?!?? That’s a joke, last year our West Ham game was postponed until the Tuesday after the cup final, what’s wring with that again ?
Cup Final is the 30th May, after that would be into June.
Not that I’ve not noticed and I’ve been waiting for us to first get there before I get excited but…… 30th May is my birthday. Hope to celebrate it with another trophy
The cup final is after the last round of the league (it usually is if there’s no European or World championship, I think). The last round of the league needs to happen at the same time for everyone. So the only option was some midweek date in between two other games, as we play every weekend from after the international break up to (hopefully) the cup final.
Can we do it again? HELL YEAH WE CAN!
can you believe it’s almost been a year since Arsenal have won a trophy? Can’t believe I haven’t read tons of articles about it.
I am hoping for Liverpool in the final once we beat Reading 7-5. My two brothers are Liverpool fans and I’d love nothing more than to watch this game with them and see their reactions to their team’s ultimate destruction! Of course, that’s assuming Liverpool can beat Blackburn.
Don’t forget Aston Villa and the might of Tactics Tim, he’ll have something to say about Liverpool making the final for sure.
We have a 100% win ratio so far on BBC One . Think it’s the ‘Michael Owen isn’t commentating’ factor.
who is worse: Michael Owen or Phil Neville? That’s a toss-up isn’t it. My biggest fear is someone giving John Terry a co-commentating job after he runs out of teammate’s wives to shag.
In North America, we had Steve McManaman doing a lot of games for ESPN until they lost the contract to NBC. He is very funny and a true neutral. Now we are stuck with the Sky commentators over here.
They won’t get Terry as he’s still trying to work out the secret of man’s red fire and the wheel.
cue watching matches on mute
If we do get to the final and its Liverpool we’re up against how great would it be if Gerrard ends up slipping on his arse again and we proceed to shit all over his birthday/last game parade
Pay back for 2001..
That game still evokes painful emotion for me.
Fuckin’ Owen.
Well, if we have to play 4 days after going to Old Trafford, I can think of worse than Sunderland at home to have to contend with. Certainly better than 4 days before the trip into the wet country.
It means we’ll finish the season with two home games, against Sunderland and West Bromwich. The latter should be safe by the end of the season and have nothing to play for but a place or two in mid-table, but Sunderland could be fighting for their future in the PL, so best be prepared…
Sunderland, QPR and Leicester are already doomed in my opinion. Also, Sunderland has a difficult run in of games so I doubt that they’ll test us. Plus, we’ll be playing at home.
Why couldn’t we have a nice Sunday afternoon kick-off? I’ve never liked that late evening Saturday time. If we win then there’s less drinking time down the pub. And if we lose then there’s less drinking time down the pub.
Birmingham at Watford, and WBA at Palace on the Saturday. Old Bill don’t want Villa in London on the Saturday too. Interesting though Leeds at Charlton and Man Utd at Chelsea which kicks off 10 minutes after us. Boys in Blue will be busy.
Could always watch the game in the pub.
Unless you watch it in a pub and get there at opening time.
This way you can drink all Sunday in your own time. And then make it to work on Monday.
first fatgooner post with no thumbs down, amazing!
He’s finally mellowed! Cheers Fatgooner
we planned a trip to London for my dads 50th birthday so we could watch the Sunderland game (we’re canadian) so pushing it back that late has well and truly f***ed us
sorry to hear. I’m from Canada too! A thumbs up for you troubles.
Ditto. I always get a little nervous when booking trips for that exact reason.
Now, now, Lance, that’s not very Canadian of you. A true Canadian would send an apology to the FA for their inconveniencing of him.
Ha ha, well played sir!
Can’t believe I agree with a FG comment but I do.
A Sunday 3pm kick off would have been sensible. The fans of both teams can get home. Of course the FA is more interested in the TV company than the fans and so it’s organised to suit them.
And while I’m ranting, why the fuck are we only getting 31,799 tickets? No one supports Reading FFS
Because Reading think they can sell 32000 tickets as well? Giving us more tickets on any other basis would be pretty unfair. They have a 25k stadium which they do sell out now and then, and they haven’t been to Wembley in ages. It’s not like Wigan last year, who rarely sell out their 25k stadium and had won the cup the previous year.
By the way: hasn’t Wenger made himself look a complete arse recently? His remarks about Monaco not deserving to go through were worthy of Maureen at his worst: utterly classless and severely damaging to the reputation of our wonderful club. Great managers know how to lose with dignity. Shame on you, Arsene. And Le Prof’s remarks about the Away Goal Rule being unfair is nonesense too. That rule has helped to make the European ties far more exciting by encouraging attacking football by the away side – and rewarding teams who know how to defend properly at home. Shame we… Read more »
Get off AW’s back: the Monaco comments were borne from frustration and he’s been an advocate for the dismissal of the away goals rule for a long time before Wed.
Also, fuck Chelsea and Mourinho. No one is world football is as classless as him and chelsea’s exit was utterly hilarious!
Why should attacking away from home and defending at home be encouraged over attacking at home and defending away from home? That just makes no sense.
Also, if you think he’s saying these things now out of bitterness you don’t know how the press works. This is the only time in the year the press is going to ask him questions about the away goal rule and be interested in publishing whatever he has to say about it, just so people like you can make a fuss about it.
and back to regular service…
People have been liking your comments too much?
sorry mate, a goal is a goal no matter where it’s scored. The away goal rule makes the home team (except Arsenal) defend too much in the first game.
I can’t think of any other sport in the world where a rule like this exists; certainly not in any North American sports…
I do not know why people are disagreeing with Fatgooner, since when has a fair debate or constructive criticism of the manager become a crime. The comments about Monaco not deserving to qualify where disrespectful and very akin to Maureen.
I also do not think we have to start clamoring the away goal rule to be scrapped just because we have be hard done by it in recent years. I fully support the away goal rule and believe it is very necessary in football, to force away teams to actually play.
The only reason I can see for the away goal rule to exist is because you don’t want too many midweek games going to extra time. Extra time would be much fairer, and any rule that encourages a team to park the bus in front of their own fans is pretty bad in my book. They probably won’t admit it in front of their fans, but any manager would take 0-0 at home against a strong team under these rules. As far as I’m concerned the away good rule is an equally good option to a home goal rule, or… Read more »
Here’s something to help understand the origins and purpose of the away goals rule:

You can decide for yourself if it still makes sense. The original reasons certainly don’t.
Haven’t we won our last three matches at Wembley?
Manchester City
Hull City
Wigan
Haven’t we came home with silverware twice?
Football Association Cup
Community Shield
18th and 20th… Bit close for comfort
Yeah, its only…1 month and 2 days in between the games. Wonder how the players will manage..
I’m guessing Sunderland game isn’t on the telly
It will be in Canada. But if you’re not Canadian, I guess that won’t be much confort to you.
Things that are sad: Seeing Podolski celebrating in this video and then, 10 months later, he can’t even make the bench for the Inter Milan-Wolfsburg Europa League match. TGSTEL did, though….
Oh, then TGSTEL scores in the game that Podolski couldn’t even watch from the bench. Neat. Maybe we should sign that Bendtner guy.
Podolski was left out of the upated Inter Milan’s Europa League squad to accomodate Shaqiri…
That’s a nice video.
So it’s win at home to Sunderland and west Brom and finish 2nd or 3rd!
To defend a Cup would just be a dream
Nice photo. Didn’t realize Wilshere and Ramsey were so close.
