Arsene Wenger has praised Francis Coquelin after the midfielder played on with a broken nose yesterday.
The injury occurred in an accidental collision with compatriot Olivier Giroud, and eventually he had to come off when the ball smashed his hooter nearly off his face, sending gauze packing and blood everywhere.
Afterwards, the Arsenal manager said Coquelin wanted to play on having established himself in the team so recently, and praised his bravery for doing so.
“He wanted to stay on,” said Wenger. “He didn’t play here for a long time so now that he plays, of course he doesn’t want to come off the pitch.
“They told me he was bleeding but that he could stay on. The second time he was hit again so after that I had to take him off. I had been told by the medical people that he could stay on.”
The worry now is that Coquelin might miss some important upcoming fixtures with the injury.
“I hope not,” Wenger continued. “I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not.”
We’ll keep fingers crossed. Chances are he’ll be out of action for Wednesday’s trip to QPR, but if we can get him back for the trip to Old Trafford in the FA Cup, then we should be able to cope.
look, he was a little bit outstanding yesterday, so I hope he can play soon.
No coq, no party
That’s what she said!
I would be worried if he doesn’t play in next game or two. In the absence of Ramsey, Arteta and Jack he is holding the fort. Can’t afford to miss him.
A bleeding coq is not always a nice sight to see, but sometimes you gotta.
On the one hand, we have Coquelin with a broken nose.
On the other, soon we’re going to see Coquelin on the pitch with one of those Venetian big pointy don’t-mess-with-me nose masks that’ll scare the fuck out of everyone.
Small trade-off, don’t you think?
A bloodied Coq is a very bad thing indeed.
Enough with the bleeding Coq jokes! We’re talking about football, not about what happens to the Landlord having a good time with Virgin Bride in case of “Jus Primae Noctis”
Coq-up Nose
Sorry..
No matter how hard you smash our cock, he’ll still remain upright and willing to…. oh screw it, all the good “bloody cock” jokes were made on the previous thread.
Well, just give him a Batman mask and he’ll carry on unhampered.
No Coq, bloody h*ll, that’s my worst nightmare.
The John Wayne Bobbitt formation.
4 4 Fucksake
Coq, the hard-tackler, with a face mask, hacking Van Pursie at Old Trafford… can’t wait!
The injury Gods are rather to Nosey…Let’s hope his good for the Man United Tie…
Our coq needs protection – its not good news when your Mates lets you down
He works likes a Trojan and not afraid to stick his head in where it hurts.
something something Durex.
I’m sure it’s a man thing… It’s not surprising that the Coq will stay willing to keep on going even when it becomes bloody. It’s whether we pull out our Coq then, or not, that determines our sanity level!
It’s never a good thing to have a bleeding coq
Just wonder why no one bothers with Abou again
Coq is not afraid of the blood, that’s handy
You know what, we’re all very happy now. Punny and joky and whatnot. But I’m going to say this pretty often now: don’t over-react to defeats, stay calm after victories. Will people give credit to Arsene for yesterday’s ”tactical masterclass”? I don’t think so. Jose had the same 2-0 against Spurs – that was genius, wasn’t it. We hardly concede off set pieces anymore, and score a lot from them. Any credit to Arsene for this? I don’t think so. For all those who pointed out after the Monaco game that the one constant in Arsenal collapses is Arsene, also… Read more »
To be the one who recommends others not to “overreact”, you.swear a pretty lot, son! Btw, I frankly agree with your general opinion. 😉
Well said!
Couldn’t have said it any better @ vat.
Fantastic post
On one hand, I will blame the medical personal for misadvising the boss to leave Coquelin on playing. Common sense should have informed the Doctors that, it was risky to have allowed him on as he had sustained an open wound injury in a dangerous part of his body. His wound was later aggravated with another blow on his wound. It think it will be a miracle if we see him on the field playing at Loftus Road on Wed’s night.
give him a mask a zorro love Le coq he’s like a little pit bull
Vat – you are spot on. I am more frustrated by the media and my fellow fans than i am by the team. Arsene is definitely held to a different benchmark – he’s bookish and intelligent and doesn’t feed the media frenzy – he was first pitched against Ferguson who terrified the press and now against Mourinho who has charmed them with his soundbites and his controversy. We may be fourth but Van Gaal, Rodgers, Pellegrini all seem to be bit players in the Manager commentary. Its all personal and all designed to pressurize and destabilize us – the media… Read more »
Russian sathrapus Abramovic owns a good percentage of English media, and not only Chelsea F.C. Does it mean anything to you?! It’s called: buying the opinion boards. That’s why press, pundrits and so on are always against us, guys.
You may have a point there mate. But the anti arsenal campaign is not only for chelscky. See examples below 1-Liverpool got humiliated by Madrid. What did pundits say? Balotelli shouldn’t swap shirt. No mention of the defeat at all. 2- Manure got a replay against Cambridge unite and then Rooney got caught diving in Preston. What did they say? Manure is in transition 3 – Liverpool got a humiliating draw against besiktas. What did they say? Balotelli shouldn’t take that penalty Our last defeat at Monaco is being portrayed as a season ending defeat. I bet the media frenzy… Read more »
So i agree with both – there is a systemic and personal anti arsenal and anti arsene bias in the press. the PGMOL and sadly many Arsenal fans.
Unfortunately we could see he wasn’t at 100% after the clash with Giroud so I think he has to be substitute. But I do hope he will come back soon enough because our midfield area needs his Coq. No Ramsey, No Arteta, No Wilshere, Flamini has disappeared and Chambers needs to learn quickly the role of “number 6”. Elsewhere we will have Monreal in this role :/ or Santi. It’s not ideal. But i agree with the masked Coq idea!
Or we can play Jack and Santi behind Ozil vs QPR?
I love the Coq…when it comes to sliding in hard, he’s inch perfect.
Mm mum may be time to rush bielik in the front line and we discover another wonderkid. Speedy recovery to Le Coq though
Blood is coming out of my beloved Coq!
ahh man what a coq block
Nobody likes seeing a fucked up Coq.
If he needs a surgery after 5-6 days i think he can play with protective mask, if i’m not wrong.
VAT that post is a serious contender for the post of the season contest. Well said thoughtful and we’ll constructed. COYG
@ Antispud There’s an idea for Mr. Blogs. Sort of an appreciation for your followers “chat of the season” I like it what you think Mr. blogs
sounds like a really bad “Period” if we had a bleeding Coq
ooh, Coq got a chafed head. He might have to wear protection next time.
Coq something something.
Bloody good performance from Coquelin.
Hope they fix him up soon and he gets right back into it.
Otherwise at very least hope Flamini is ready for midweek. He isn’t as poor as many would suggest.
