Mesut Ozil is ‘naturally generous’ and Alexis Sanchez has ‘fighting spirit’ – that’s the assessment of Arsene Wenger as he ran the rule over his two record signings ahead of Sunday’s game with Chelsea.
The two players, whose combined transfer fees total nearly £75 million, have been in sparkling form in recent months helping the Gunners to a second consecutive FA Cup final and a remarkable nine game winning streak.
“When I bought Alexis I thought he can play on the right, he can play on the left, he can play through the middle,” the manager said of the Chilean.
“Secondly, I wanted someone who has a fighting spirit in the Premier League, to adapt, and to give something to the team on that front. That was needed – someone to say ‘come on, I’m ready for a fight’.
“Thirdly, a guy with a good combination of running in behind and can dribble as well. On all of that, I believe I was not disappointed. I was extremely happy.”
So far this season Alexis has 22 goals in all competitions; a feat that has seen him nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the year gong. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard remains favourite for the award, although the boss believes his man will run the Belgian close in the voting.
“Alexis had a big impact and let’s not forget that for Hazard it is not the first season but for Alexis it is,” the manager explained.
“He will give him a fight and if Alexis doesn’t make it this year, he will give him a fight as well for next season.
“I think everybody would agree that Hazard has had a great season and one of the aspects of Sunday’s game will be to keep him quiet.
“He has found maturity that he did not have before. I believe his final ball is better, his personality on the pitch is stronger, the finishing aspect of his game is much better than before. He can turn games when it’s 0-0 and when it’s tight. That’s always a sign of top quality.”
Having struggled for form in the final third of last season much was anticipated of Mesut Ozil when the new campaign began. A hangover from the World Cup followed by a three month spell on the sidelines with a knee injury dampened those expectations, but he’s since come on strong in 2015.
“People questioned Ozil,” Wenger continued. “Many people speak now about Alexis but in the first part of the season Ozil wasn’t there. In the second part of the season Ozil has blossomed and is getting to where you want him to be.
“He is a player that is the centre of our game and also makes other people play. The real players are those who take the qualities of their partners – Ozil is one like that. He is naturally generous.”
Magic, both of them. COYG beat those blue chavs today give them a roasting, and a nasty shock.
People were too quick to write off Ozil. Now that he is beginning to make significant strides, they are not as quick to admit that they were wrong to write him off
That’s because most people don’t see the beauty in what he does, because it is not as easy to see it as with for instance Giroud. They expect a player that we buy for this kind of sum to be in the Hazard/Müller/Ronaldo mold. What Özil offers us is creativity and stability in that midfield. I almost never see him make silly mistakes upfront. His passing accuracy is outstanding as well.
We’ve got Mesut Özil!
Mesut to produce a bit of magic today and sanchez to trump that cunt who tried to break his leg.
Come on lads, let’s beat chelsea and end this nonsense.
It’s wierd what world glass players can contribute to their teamates.
I’ll drink to that!!
Ideally, Ozil will provide a laser-guided assist through the legs of ‘barca dna’ to Alexis who then thunderblasts it off the crotch of John terry which makes it loop over Drogba who is playing in goal because their regular keeper pulled a nut in the warm up.
So in other words, it was a choice between Alexis and Cesc(from what he said in the interview)…it was the right move; Why the decision looked wrong to some people was because we didn’t get a cb and dm in that window. So fair play Arsene.
As for ozil…no brainer; when inform he is the best NO 10 in the world…probably the most intelligent one around. It’s obvious what having someone like alexis around has done for him.
Cesc is in the past now…him wearing a Chelsea jersey doesn’t hurt me in the slightest.
Sorry Henry chance goal definitely tried to thumbs up your comment.Fat hungover thumbs pressed the wrong button. Ozil if he sticks around will be one of the greats of this club. I’m seeing comparisons all over the pitch with some of the title winning teams of last 15 years. All we need is the Tony Adams type at the back, there is such a shortage of world class centre backs nowadays.
I fucken hate chelski
Sozil
Great article in Sunday mirror, if it’s just about winning then Faldo is greater than Seve and Klitschko is greater than Ali. This is an ordinary Chelsea team that had 29% possession, at home last week. Ask any fan other than the racist Chelsea scum and they will choose watching Arsenal all day long. Big game today. Coyg
A shoutout to Ryan Mason for slipping on his arse yesterday. St. Totteringham is drawing close. Also let’s smash those cunts today. Come on you gunners!!
I can see why Wenger persevered with Ozil all this time. He could see something in him that most of us and so called pundits couldn’t see in him. It’s Ramsey story all over again. Boss knows what he is doing.
Oh, oh, guys, please, let’s not forget who Özil is ! When reading some of you, i have the feeling Mesut has just started his career once arrived in Arsenal?! He’s managed the Mannschaft for 5 years now, has achieved 3 beautiful years in Real Madrid after being successful in Germany!
Talking Fabregas, Özil is a far better playmaker than him (check out stats for the last 5 years).
Talking Ramsey, he has all to prove compared to Mesut…
A year and a half on and I still cannot fucking believe we bought Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42 million. i feel like I’m living in Rand McNally
Actually in Rand McNally, people wear hats on their feet and beefburgers eat people.
In other news, COYG!
Both are great players. Özil is our most intelligent and creative player. I just hope we continue to play him in that No. 10 role so that he can play in a position where he is allowed more freedom.
In a completely different but understandable story, Everton are turning over that team managed by the pan-shaped-head bloke. This reduces the pressure on us going into the game against those blue scumbags. Fucking interesting! #COYG
Better news everton beat man.u 3.0 this is a chance for arsenal fc to grab points we and chavs av games in hand coyg.
Alan Smith is quite frankly a disgrace. His appalling anti Arsenal commentary comes close to that other gimp Stewart Robson.
As former players of our beloved club, it makes it even more sad, idiots.
Sounds like Wenger was at first looking to get Sanchez as a striker with some of those descriptions.
I wonder why decided not to continue with that plan of converting Sanchez into a CF?
