If only the Premier League could be won by asking football fans to vote. Arsenal would definitely win. Every time.
On Sunday night Jack Wilshere secured Match of the Day’s ‘goal of the season’ vote with a strike that at the time of broadcast still had the Clock End net rippling.
While lovely, it’s fair to say his half volley against West Brom – which scooped a whopping 34.7% of the vote despite being scored just hours earlier – probably didn’t deserve the accolade. Just for good measure it was the second year in succession our midfielder secured the accolade. Oh…and it pissed off Stoke fans cheering on that orc Adam’s big hoof at Stamford Bridge.
Not to be outdone, Alexis Sanchez has today been named PFA Fans’ Player of the Year.
The Chilean international had featured on the shortlist for both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and the Football Writers’ gong, only to miss out on both to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Given our west London neighbours have no fans, the Belgian didn’t really stand a chance when the latest award went to a popular vote.
In addition to scoring 24 goals in 51 appearances this season, Alexis has run enough miles to make it to Pluto and taken more adorable selfies with cute dogs than you can shake a stick at. He really is a footballer for our social media savvy times.
Congratulations to our favourite Chilean and fingers crossed he can deliver the goods one more time when Arsenal head to Wembley on Saturday.

Arsenal fans are the best. Hazard got votes for scoring a ton of penalties (Gerrard did that too btw). Sanchez scored 2 more goals, had one less assist, he runs harder and faster, tackles more and we can all agree has the better physique and did all this in his first season. Definitely my POTY.
Bit unfair on the Stoke fans. I don’t believe electricity has reached the town of Stoke yet so how were they supposed to vote for their player for motd goal of the season. Actually they may not have even been aware of motd existed.

Now that he’s widely regarded as a top player, can everyone agree to refer to him merely as “Alexis” now? Surely there is no other “Alexis” who runs 15 miles per 90 mins. in the world–it’s pretty obvious who you’d be referring to in the phrase, “Land covers 1/3rd of the world, Alexis covers the other 2/3rds by the end of injury time.”

Well deserved for Sanchez our best signing so far. His consistency,pace and speed on the ball,his tenacity to be almost everywhere in the pitch is comendable. Always tireless and fearless he is. Arsenal got this far this season cos of Sanchez. For me he deserved more accolades. God bless Sanchez.
