Ramsey doubts increase for Swansea, Welbeck fears played down

It looks increasingly likely that Aaron Ramsey will miss the game with Swansea due to injury.

The midfielder got booted in the leg by lumbering lummox Tom Huddlestone at the KC Stadium earlier this week, and at his press conference today Arsene Wenger admitted it’s touch and go for Monday night’s Premier League encounter.

“We have an uncertainty about Ramsey,” said the Arsenal manager. “He got a big knock on his fibula. He is 50-50”.

Danny Welbeck will also miss out but Wenger played down suggestions that his season might be over, saying “He will play again this season. It’s nothing major but he will be short for the weekend.”

Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were ruled out yesterday as being a little short of fitness, but it wouldn’t surprise us to see one of them make the bench on Monday night.

Two England internationals we can call on instead. Things could be a lot worse.

Mesut Ozil's flick pass

As much as i would love to see Jack get a start under his belt, I think Theo will be chosen this weekend. Obviously, playing on the wing suits him better. Although Wilshere would be more similar to Ramsey’s wide role playing style. But considering Theo has been sitting on the bench, fit, a lot longer than jack i think Wenger will give him the nod. Also, we saw Theo perform well not too long ago against Villa at home, and i’d like to imagine arsenal will dictate the swansea fixture in a similar manner, so Theo shouldn’t have to… Read more »

two bullets in the chamber

How many times have we fallen into the trap of being complacent? Swansea are a threat, a real threat and we need to treat them as such. They can hit us quickly and suddenly if we lose focus. We cannot afford to lose a single remaining game if we want to secure second place and that means we need to field the best possible team.

Victor Kimuyu

its all good with me. Would have loved if Ramsey was to make the teamsheet and further solidify that burgeoning telepathy with the rest of the midfield. Then i realize that jack is roaring for the show after that nostalgia evoking trailer against hull. Plus i get to eat my cake and have it too. What a time to be a gooner!

GoonerBob

So why did Ramsey stay on then when he got injured? Surely running around for the rest of the game would only worsen the situation?

GoonerBob

Funny! My point being he was clearly in a lot of pain and we have a class bench now, we do not need to take risks with our players as we have done in the past. Good player management surely. I do take on board the other comment though, sometimes things do not become apparent until after.

DB10s

Yeah sometimes they don’t surface till after. I had the beckham metatarsal fracture from footie a few years back. For a few hours after it happened, I was walking around fine but with abit of discomfort. It was only the next morning when i woke up, the pain really started to kick in and my foot swelled so much over night that none of my shoes fit.

Mate Kiddleton

Did my ankle in training once and kept going for the rest of the session – ran it off and didn’t think too much of it. Next day it had swollen to something ridiculous and I could hardly move, and I ended up being out for nearly a month, and played with an ankle brace for about 4 months after.

Pony Tulips

WENGER OUT!

Gus Caesar

Err, so he can score one and assist one?

Jagger

A valid point, but the extent of some injuries do not become apparent immediately after their occurrence. Ramsey and medical staff probably thought it was a bruising to the shin and nothing sinister. Still may not be.

Pony Tulips

I would love to see a slightly altered starting XI for the next match. Something like this:

Ospina, bellerin, mert, kos, monreal, coq, wilshere, ozil, walcott, sanchez, giroud

bergkamp's hooped sock

Ramsey offers much more defensive protection than Wilshere. Having, him, Walcott, and Ozil in the S me starting lineup doesn’t work well with our current playing style. Think we’ll see Wilshere in for Ramsey, but in the center, with Santi on the right.

Pony Tulips

Yes. But for the past 4 matches ramsey was playing on the right. it was cazorla and coq teaming up in the centre providing a bit of defensive cover. wilshere played a similar role along with arteta in the earlier setup of 4 2 3 1. I may be wrong but it ll be exciting to see him play there. Walcott deserves a start. Santi can come in from the bench!

gar14

Why oh why would you want to drop Santi?

Pony Tulips

Because swansea is a midweek game. We have a game at OT the weekend and we can start him there?

Goonerestgooner

Monday is not exactly “midweek”

Jammathon

Compare Jack Wilshere’s all-action cameo against Hull, and then Walcott’s pitiful game of hide-and-seek in all the (many more) sub appearances he has made lately. “Deserved”: really?

Thierry Walcott

Not happy but not worried either, Jack is back and looking sharp. Wouldn’t mind seeing him start.

Walcott should be working on adapting his game to the way the team plays. That’s a lot of quality being wasted by him being on the bench, he must learn from Poldi’s mistakes.

Anyway bring on Swansea and let’s scare the shit out of ManUre! COYG!

Fat Fingers

I agree. He’s come so far in the last few years, it’d be a shame to see him waste himself. After Alexis he is probably the second best finisher at the club (if he does what he did before his injury).

The Flash

It has become so obvious now that when wilshere returns ramsey goes back to injury room and vice versa.

Anyways, we just need 3 points to stay at 2nd spot no matter whoever plays.

I hope Welbeck is back to play and the score the winner at the ‘Theatre of Dramaqueens’.

GoonerBob

Could be a chance for Walcott to regain that right sided role.

Heroldgoon

JACK JACK JACK!!! FUCKING JACKKKKKK! GET IN!

Mikolaj

I’m flying from Poland to attend this game and I do hope to see Super Tom in the starting line up in case Ramsey’s absence.

I fear it may be my personal farewell to one of the greatest footballers I have ever seen in Arsenal jersey 🙁

GoonerBob

Fingers crossed for you. He has been a fine servant to the club.

Rohith J

I guess we’ll have to play the future England captain then. 😀

MyNameIsDifficultToPronounce

Chambo? He’s injured 😉

Don’t get me wrong, I think Wilshire’s good but Chambo’s fuckin’ magical.

Guns&Gooners

And I just bought Ramsey for Fantasy Premier League….Aouch.

Gus Caesar

Loving the squad depth and versatility we have right now. No need to revert to Bendtner or Eboue on the right wing anymore; Walcott, Alexis Baby, Ox, Welbeck, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, Gnabry can comfortably play there (I won’t mention Ozil…). All of those can play on the left too.

the_alchemist

How bout some TR7?

santori

Jack.

Play Jack.

Rosicky is the past.
