Tomas Rosicky will be sidelined for up to five weeks by a knee injury sustained on international duty earlier in the summer.
The veteran Czech midfielder, who has been retained by Arsenal for one more year, picked up the knock in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Iceland and is yet to return for pre-season training.
“Rosicky came back with a knee problem from the international Czech game against Iceland,” Wenger told press on the Gunners tour of Singapore.
“He will be longer; four to five weeks.”
The 34-year-old is joined on the sidelines by Danny Welbeck who is still struggling with bone bruising sustained at the tail end of last season. The England attacker is on the mend though with Arsene Wenger adding:
“Welbeck will be one or two weeks before he starts to train again. He has still not recovered from the pain he had from bone-bruising [on a knee].
“It is unbelievable because there is no major damage there. He is supposed to start running again at the end of the week.”
Arseblog News suspects Welbeck will also miss the start of the season given the time he’s spent out. Given the options at the club’s disposal in the wide attacking positions it’s not a massive problem at the moment, however, with Alexis not back in training until 3 August we’d not want to pick up any other knocks.
Love Tomas, but he has had so long injured whilst he has been at Arsenal.
And this rules out a loan/sale. A shame, I’d love to see him on the pitch, ideally with us but somewhere at least, he hasn’t got that much time left in the game.
Who will start against West Ham on the left?
Hopefully Santi won’t be deployed there and will retain his deep-lying playmaker role.
The Ox. I’m backing him for YPOTY this year. Did it last year and felt it was justified by his performances when fit. That kid is special!
I’d go along with that! The Ox is an absolute beast! His potential is genuinely exciting and I loved seeing how sanchez inspired him last season.
Ah, the ypoty. A cheap equivalent of the iPoty but my nephew can’t tell the difference. Great for music festivals too.
It’s not like Rosicky was set to start or that we’re really that short… Walcott, Ox, Ramsey/Wilshere (sort of), Gnabry, (for now) we could try Campbell/Wellington, etc. etc.
Sure, sure. It wasn’t so much Rosicky’s injury but Blogs mentioning the likely absence of Welbeck on top of Alexis. Plus no Poldi. Hopefully it will be Ox instead of Santi, but I can’t remember him ever playing there.
He plays there all the time for England.
I think Ox played there in that game against Blackburn where he scored his first two goals in the league, the game where we ended up hammering them 7-1. He was so good that game.
Didn’t he at there against anderlecht at home where he scored a great goal (before we conceded 2 and the inevitable 3rd)?
I’m not suresure but I think he played there vs bayern away and it was a great performance
Doesn’t matter who plays on the left for us cos they’ll have no right back anyway #AgentCarl
A little off topic, but I won’t believe that Rosicky is 34. It’s just not possible.
He isn’t. At least in footballing years 😛
Oh god the injury woes begin…..
(Yes I’m a cynical bastard)
the smile has half died for the 2015/16 kick off. Seeing Tommy (even on the bench) is heart-warming
I have a strange feeling we are going to sign Thomas Muller for a big amount and will also be parting with Rosicky on the deal.Thumb me down if you think i am dreaming. But, i actually think Wenger is capable of doing this.
tell us more about your strange feelings. they are quite fascinating!
I believe I mentioned Rosicky is an injury prone waste of space yesterday….every little knock is a month out. It’s just a waste of time now….put sentiment to one side and ( like Arteta )….let him go.
If Wenger is saying it’ll be four to five weeks from now (a projected recovery time it’s usually wise to double or treble to avoid disappointment ), I wouldn’t expect him to be fit much before Christmas. But since he didn’t play last season anyway even when he was healthy, I don’t suppose it makes any difference. Like you, and indeed like Rosicky himself, I don’t get it. Lovely player, lovely bloke, he understandably wants to spend what’s left of his career actually playing rather than being a miserable frustrated drain on our wage bill. I still think maybe he… Read more »
I’m with you Arseblood
Arteta — CHOP with loyalty medal
Rosicky — CHOP with loyalty medal
Flamini — CHOP with loyalty medal
Here we go again next it will be Given Coq and Carzola
No loss as he won’t be playing anyway. He’s past his use by date, like a once fine but now stale cheddar.
The opportunity for Akpom is there for the taking.
So it has begun, Cech the double agent on the Russian pay-role.
Please does anyone know the situation with Gnabry? Is he injured or given an extended break from the youth tournament?
