Arsene Wenger says that the lack of genuine strikers in the Premier League is down to the fact that teams no longer produce defenders.
Speaking ahead of the first game of the season against West Ham, he said, “One of the basic reasons that we produce fewer centre-forwards is that we produce few centre-backs.
“Because before the teams practised in the park in winter, when you had to lift the ball, to go behind. Today the pitches are all perfect. We develop only midfielders now.
“The education is about passing on the ground on perfect pitches. Before you had to kick the ball from the back to get behind, to fight with the centre-back to win the ball and have a chance.
“This is not the case anymore. The conditions have changed. We have not adapted in our education. It is evolution. Look across Europe now, many centre-forwards are South American.
“Maybe we have to create specific schools for centre-forwards. In Europe we produce plenty of good technical midfielders.
“When I arrived in England, in every single club there was a guy who before the game you’d say: ‘Be careful, he’s good in the air. Be careful, because he’s aggressive’. Every club.”
Basically, John Terry is a cuntspanner.
Le prof has spoken and so it is….
So be it!
John Terry,Leader, Racist, Cuntspanner..that’s the banner those pricks need
… and the one they deserve!
Playing the Ham tomorrow, not the Brom! #pedant
I have a feeling all is not well in the camp at Chelsea. The special cunt always makes a good start if given money and wins titles. Then something happens and he gets found out for being an egotistical fraudulent maniac. He had never stayed long anywhere and when he left the dogs last time they had capitulated. You can sense something ain’t right and i pray to the gods of fire and ice that it continues. Let’s go top of league tomorrow with 4 nil win. #coyg
A win with 3 goal difference might be enough to go top of the table, unless citeh goes nutso on Monday.
Why settle for 3 though?
A world class goalkeeper such as Petr Cech would have state on his line and intimidated Gomis into blasting the ball into the side-netting.
Pity those clubs who are just ‘one or two signings away’ from being genuine title contenders.
You do know 2014-2015 was last season?
I’m assuming they work for Nottingham City Transport who won the European Business Award in 2014-2015 for excellence in customer service. By all accounts it was a tightly fought contest, so you can’t blame them for that heightened level of expectation.
Sorry, what was that incisive comment regarding world class goalkeeper?
If one aspect of this pre-season has bugged the crap out of me it has been dubious faith placed on Cech’s shoulders.
Time for one and all to sober up a little.
Agreed, no spend this summer and a draw yesterday, Long may it continue. Cunts.
I found that last bit especially insightful
West brom ?
It’s Saturday night, we can cut him some slack.
I think he’s spot on with that analysis. .
I put my lifetime salary on Boringho not staying at Chelsea for his whole contract. Takes a truly insufferable cunt to be as good as he is at his job and still get fired from every gig he has. tomorrow we start, and i believe we will win this premier league.
I hope we score more than 4 goals but with a new manager like Bilic it might be a little bit tough in the park tmw. COYG!
Hm, Costa, Cavani, Suarez, Aguero, Tevez and Falcao are like the only south American strikers that spring to mind. Messi, Neymar and Sanchez all play more like offensive midfielders/wingers rather than strikers. And if that counts the European contingent grows even more with players like Robben, Reus, Ronaldo, Bale, Müller, Ribery and Turan etc.
Then you have Benzema, Rooney, Persie, Sturridge, Ibrahimovic and Lewandowski. Aswell as upcoming talents like Benteke, Lukaku, Kane, Dybala, Mitrovic and Lacazette.
Im not sure I see Wengers point 😛
You forgot your friend…Higuain.
And Jackson Martinez?
I don’t see Wengers point, either. Actually I think it waffle rather than point and cringe at every (silly) comment Wenger makes being deemed wisdom for the ages. In fact one could argue that the improvement in defense in general has been so good that the old fashioned idea of the center forward has been negated. Ironically we have one of the best in the game in the shape of Giroud. Ironically, I think two parties have been responsible more than any other for the change in playing style – Barcelona and Arsene himself. Arsene has spent the better part… Read more »
Chelsea are sluggish at the moment. They seem as if they are still on holidays. It is gonna take a couple if games for them to get up to speed. They are making the mistakes that we were making last season. Oh and united are far from a team that is gonna worry us. I saw a disjointed ,unconvincing and clueless team. They need a lot of time to develop their as Wenger says “COHESION”. I have no Idea what Man City is up to but this is the time to strike. Out run them all, by the time they… Read more »
I honestly can’t see what Wenger is trying to say: it makes no sense to me. Why should pitches have anything to do with the development of strikers or defenders?
I’m completely discombobulated.
I think he’s trying to say that strikers used to have to blast the ball and lift it off the ground as the pitches were so poor (bobbles, dips etc). Hence, they had to focus on power as they had to rely on shooting skills.
Also that the ball couldn’t glide across the pitch (making it near enough posdible inch perfect Ozil pass) so they had to rely on crosses and strength to beat the defence. That’s how I interpreted it anyway.
I specious argument if ever I heard one.
You are specious. Specious feces.
Lack of combobulation on your part doesn’t make Le Prof’s point less valid.
Thats why you aint a manager/coach.
Its good to accept one’s limitations once in a while
If the pitch is in worse shape, it’s more difficult to play with the ball on the ground all the time. The point seems valid.
Basically Wenger is slyly saying Giroud is unique.
Anyone not pick up on the fact that Mr blogs dropped one and we’re playing West Ham?? Wenger is playing down the mentality of the team we have as kosc is obviously a CB. Through and through and giroud is a clear centre forward there is NO argument that we produce these players as a club always will.
I think he means that due to perfect pitches teams are able to keep the ball on the ground and the game is dominated in midfield, so clubs focus on developing midfielders as opposed to focussing on forwards which in turn means less focus on centre backs
I don’t know what a cuntspanner is, but I’m pretty sure they won’t be happy when they hear you said John Terry is one of them.
bow to the boss! now that i look at it this way, the nemesis thing goes a long way in the path young lads develop and shape their games, look around Europe top leagues for the past decade all you find is creative mildfielders, playmakers… and so in recent years we are witnessing a vast of talented defensive midfielders coming out of nowheres.
le prof for a reason.
I think what Le Prof is saying is that to get the best out of a striker, you need to have a good opposition defense. Earlier, the ball would be kicked from back to front without the midfielders coming into play. So the strikers had to fight it out with the back line. Hence strikers were good in air and more aggressive. Today, its all midfield battle. It’s what I understood.
John Terry Is is a cunt
That’s what I’m taking away from all this. It’s a good point well made, in my opinion.
Laughing my head off when Chelski didn’t have Cech to bring on…
Cech would have saved the penalty, ha ha ha ha ha ha…
My admiration for Wenger continues to grow, now that he’s publicly said that about John Terry.
