Santi Cazorla says Francis Coquelin has developed into one of the ‘best players’ in the defensive midfield position after making the position his own at the Emirates.
Le Coq has featured in 24 of Arsenal’s last 25 Premier League games since the injury ravaged Gunners recalled him from a loan spell at Charlton last December.
Dovetailing with team mate Cazorla in the centre of the park, the 24-year-old has impressed so much that there’s even talk of a call-up to the French national team ahead of Euro 2016.
Reflecting on the partnership he’s struck up with Coquelin, Cazorla told Arsenal’s Final Whistle programme:
“It’s amazing playing with him. He’s helped me a lot. He plays well, he defends well and I think he’s one of the best players in this position.
“We are lucky because he plays for Arsenal and I enjoy it a lot with him in this position.”
Cazorla also spoke of his own improvement in recent weeks after a slow start to the season. “I feel better every game. The most important thing for me is always to help the team.
“I had an assist for Giroud [against Stoke] and I had so many chances to score but the keeper made good saves.
“I feel good and I always want to help the team, that’s the most important thing for me.”
Santi also revealed that he enjoyed watching ex-Swansea boss Michael Laudrup – formerly of Barcelona and Real Madrid – when he was growing up and that Roberto Carlos is the toughest opponent he’s ever faced in his career. We suspect facing Le Coq in training proves pretty hard too.
*Insert Coq-joke here*
Read the Title head of the article again if you can’t think of one.
Actually they inserted the Coq jokes there…

How can one not enjoy playing with Coq?
Yep, best (and most obvious) headline ever.
He loves coq
I honestly believe the teams going to start finding its proper groove very soon
I thought the supply of high quality Coq jokes had been exhausted.
How wrong I was.
He’s pretty hard our Coq
The most important thing about Coq is how good it is to actually have one. I mean I’d be lost without mine
And don’t we know it.
Aaaah, the Coq gags never get old……
I like to gag on Coq.
…too much.
Calm down son, it’s not that serious.
They all know When le coq is coming they just cant Get out of the way and splatt!
The message might get lost in a host of Coq jokes, however I think that to draw such praise from one of the most perceptive players in the game is very impressive. To me it means that Coq has made it.
I have to admit, playing with my own is sometimes amazing, but damn boy, cazorla, no need to go announcing it to the world.
I couldn’t stop smiling when I heard a Chelsea fan say he doesn’t like coquelin cos he’s too rough and too defensive(which means he would love to have him play for Chelsea). I had to cast my mind back to d days man u fans didnt like Viera cos he always gave dem tough times..means Coquelin is doing a good job.
Our Coq is well ‘Ard!
As a 60yr old born in Hackney, I af ta say when I see that boi’s tackle, it warms d ol Cockle in me ‘eart
This just in.
Santi toiling to hold Marriage together after astonishing Coq declaration.
Most times, Wenger is right
Look at theo squeezing that coq and giving his head a little rub!
shame he wasn’t playing 20 years ago:
“He gave Coq a hard time there, and Seaman was all over the place.”
Still people want a world class DM?!:
It’s not that people wanted a world class DM to replace Coquelin, but rather one to supplement and cover him as he is going to wear down over the long season. If we had two Coquelin twins everyone would be thrilled, but we have just one of him and as we all know are at great risk should something happen to him.
Have you seen him when something does happen to him? He broke his nose in three or four consecutive matches last season, and just carried on.
Don’t jinxx it!
It would be a real thrill to have two Coq’s – you’re right.
Which club has 2 world class DM’s in the ranks? I don’t have a problem at all with having Flam and Arteta as our backup options.
Comment: cant get enough watching him play.
Fair to say we all love watching Le Coq in action
“I love a good Coque, up The Arse!!
Fucks sake blogs grow up.
(Sarcasm)
Le Coq has certainly grown this year.
This has gone too far
The Coq can never go far enough…
..the more Coq grows the better for the team..
The Coqzorla factor!
