Wenger looking for consistency and confidence

After a good win against Leicester, Arsene Wenger is looking for the confidence boost to help his team find consistency in the Premier League.

And the Frenchman has highlighted the topsy-turvy nature of the Premier League this season as a reason why the latter is so important. Not long ago everybody was saying the title was heading to the blue side of Manchester, but after two defeats they’re apparently crap, and now it’s United who’ll win.

The truth, of course, is that it’s too early in the season to write anybody off completely, or pick a sure-fire winner, so Wenger wants his team to focus on results.

“Two weeks ago, you could say one team were going to run away with it and now it’s tight again,” he said. “You have to be consistent.

“That’s what we focus on. I feel that the quality of our game is getting better, week by week, and overall we are finding the level that we had shown at the end of last season.

“We came to Leicester, who had not lost a game this season, and the fact that we could win in a convincing way is of course good for our confidence as well.”

The manager also refused to be drawn into the latest series of comments by weirdo Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

“I just feel I have just done my job with the team and for our fans,” he said. “That’s what you want. Honestly I’m not too much concerned about the other results.

“Thirty years in football now, and I know that what is important is to play football well.”

Job done on Saturday, now let’s keep it going.

If walcott keeps getting games as a striker, we might get that consistency. It shouldn’t matter whether the opponents are sitting deep or not, let him get used to it.

Rotation (positions that can be rotated) is also important. As much as we want the best players to feature in every single game, it isn’t possible. We could see the improvement in the fringe players in just their second game.

Completely agree with this – but equally fans have to be patient when he struggles against teams that sit deep.

Arsenalboy

If there is confidence he’s looking for, then he can just forget about me…. 🙁

eternalflamini

Fair to say we all will be trying to do that.

This is Mourinho’s public lesson on class.

If there was a test for class maureen would fail it every time, the cunt!

Smart-Arse

I think Alan Davies’ rant summed up everything anyone needs to know about Chelsea – a stain on football and society

If I’m correct, we played on Saturday, along with Chelsea, Citeh and Yanited. I notice now that Chelsea and us are due Champions League fixtures on Tuesday, while the latter two play on Wednesday. What the fuck is going on here? Why are they being afforded this advantage? Is this a new phenomenon, or have I just noticed it? !0 years ago I had no access to English football, from where I live. It was Serie A for me back then, and I remember that the CL team that was due to play on Tuesday played its league match on… Read more »

I think it’s just the luck of the draw but should result in more recovery time for next weekend.

Time to bring the red scums crashing down to where they really belong!

Looking forward to the manu game. The ecstacy they are in right now will come crumbling down under the feet of sexy Sanchez and beautifully bearded speedster that is Walcott.

Moaninho’s interview pre-newcastle is conclusive proof that he has completely lost it.

Nobody mentioned wenger to him and yet he spent half of the time talking about the prof. Looking back, he should probly have spent that time preparing his team.

AntiSpud

Doctors call it chronic pathologic obsession mate. He always have to find a way to mention Wenger. This has been going on since his first spell. The guy really needs to get a grip

It’ll forever be a regret that we didn’t join the fun over the last few years by humiliating United when they were in the doldrums.

I guess we’ll have to do it when they’re top of the league instead.

Andy Mack

The PMGO didn’t let us join ‘the fun’ and they may not this season as well.

Alex

I think our poor start has been overstated, which is to be expected these days. I believe the team has to always take responsibility for its own performances and get the results to keep officials out of the equation.

Nevertheless – how does our league position look if Ramsey’s goal vs Mugsmashers is not given offside and Chelsea plays out 0-0?

That’s right – top.

This team can deliver a lot.

Gab's Scratch Mark

Having seen Moanrinho in his conferences and on the sideline during games, he clearly has cracked. I wouldn’t be surprised if he socked someone in the face befoer Xmas. Maybe an eye gouging 2.0.

Wenger oozes what our beloved club is all about…

Yeah, and the problems Chelsea are having, given the players they’ve got, could relate to how trying his personality is for the players working with him. Classic narcissistic disorder which is also why he can’t stick a job.

I really hope we don’t take our CL game lightly again because its more important than the Man utd game.
Having said that I hope we f up Man Utd.

Alexis’ coming to form is real bad news for our rivals. Add Walcott getting better, Ozil, Cazorla and Ramsey as support casts, we are stocked to do damage to many a defence.
Our greatest drawback will be injuries; I hope and pray we have some luck there.
We will surprise many!

Springbank 1962

We could be the Wales Rugby World Cup squad.

I used to think we had some spectacular bad luck when it came to injuries, but there’s a new benchmark in town. Now I’m not so sure our injury list is even worth commenting on.

Man Manny

Going too far…AFC Bournemouth have been decimated by injuries. I guess the “AFC” in their name has been mistaken for Arsenal Football Club by the injury gods.

We should take it as a “compliment” that Mourinho is giving special attention to Arsenal & Wenger. For me there are a few obvious factors contributing to his Arsenal obsession: – No matter what he/Cheatski do they will never be respected like Arsenal – Cech ditched them for us – Losing to Arsenal in the shield DID actually hurt Mourinho’s ego and confidence – Mourinho knows Arsenal are contenders, hence the NEED to cheat like mad to get a result against us in the PL – He is jealous of our ethics, morals, and especially Wenger’s class and longevity –… Read more »

It will come. Let’s not forget that Alexis didn’t have a pre season and no matter how many games Theo has played he is still very much raw in the sole striker role.in time the goals will rain in. And plus Olivier is going through a crisis in confidence and it’s our responsibility as fans to lift his spirits up

Cowpuncher10

Pretty sure we can write off Sunderland for winning the league…
