Arsene Wenger says that he has to consult with the club’s medical staff to assess Jack Wilshere’s current situation.
The England international has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury in training, but was expected to be nearing a comeback after the Interlull.
However, at his press conference today, Arsene Wenger revealed Wilshere has suffered a ‘little setback’ and that his recovery has not been as quick as first thought.
“I have not seen Jack in the last two or three days,” he said.
“He is progressing slowly. It is slower than expected as I expected him to be back and available after the break, but unfortunately he will not be available for Saturday.
“He had a little setback and I have to know about it, but I can’t tell you much more as I have no medical information.”
So, we’ll wait with bated breath to hear how little the little setback is. You may insert your own joke here about amputation/three months/like a new signing/if he can stay fit or any of the multitude smart remarks that can be made.
The boss also spoke about the Danny Welbeck injury situation and how late that situation emerged after comments before the Interlull about his imminent return.
“I will not change my style of play”
Think you are gonna have to rethink that Jacky boy. if he ever wants to string a season together at Arsenal that is or half for that matter.
Fully agree. Two things here; playing in the PL players are more keen to fully commit on 50-50’s. Second is Wilshere always dribbles into congested areas and most times he doesn’t have the ball fully under control, case in point is our own Mesut and see the difference; other top dribblers like Iniesta and Silva almost always have the ball under control too. Those two combined is a recipe for disaster. With England he plays a bit deeper and keeps things simple, keeps play ticking without really having to dribble and make things happen, which is where I see him… Read more »
So you would like JW to stop using one of his best qualities and one of the reasons why Arsenal fans believe he can still be one of the best players in our team. We have a pool of players who can ‘keep play ticking over’ but very very few who can cut a team apart with a 10 yard burst of quick dribbling.
What good is it if he keep dribbling himself into long injury lay offs?
Especially when he comes back allow more to heal for what is obviously a problem area.
How do you know that’s what happened? He got injured in training. While I see some of what you’re saying, people are quick to apportion blame to Wilshere for this small facet of his play, but rarely on the perpetrators of the tackles that hurt him.
I agree. Fuck Gabriel
But seriously. Wilshere really needs to look into his pattern of play. He’s had too many injuries in the same situation to call it coincidence. I’m not saying he needs to stop . but he needs to sit back and consider if making that 10 yards dash once every game is worth sitting out 2-3 weeks/months. Personally, I don’t think so. We are creating enough chances already.we don’t need wilshere going full speed ahead. Sometimes it’s smarter to keep your knights out of battle. I think this is one such period. He can tone it down a bit for NOW
He can’t well change what opposition defenders do though. Not dribbling into harms way might be a pragmatic way to stay fit.
I agree, it astonishes me that people say Jack needs to change the way he plays rather than point to the very fact that the challenges he succumbs to are poorly timed eg. McNair being a prime example, it’s a miracle his ankle didn’t shatter under that tackle. It’s just easier to pin it on Jack, ‘oh look, he’s been tackled again and now he’s injured, he needs to change how he plays’ even saying it sounds ridiculous, and it’s compounded when you see the challenges he has to put up with!
Not sure if this is totally correct Blogs. While he did get injured in training, it was an injury from a previous injury (probably from a previous injury). Once injured almost never the same
While he is undergoing surgery on his ankles, we could replace the bone with metal joints. Bionic players, it’s the future.
JW needs to adapt hus game but not because of his injuries. It’s not his fault that halfwits like Shawcross lumber around the pitch craving living brain. He needs to adapt to a quicker game and by that I mean quicker thinking. He tends to hold on to the ball a bit to long and put the rest of the team in trouble. Our game is, sometimes, based on movement and speed. That falls apart when someone takes an extra touch. He needs to release the ball quicker and when he does you get goals like the one against Norwich.… Read more »

You can say that again.
He’s already played a full season without changing his style. What actually needs to happen is the referees start to protect him from all the bone breaking-tackles he faces.
We all know how many fouls Hazard faces thanks to Moureen but I can’t remember one that broke his ankle or even left him injured for any period of time.
Most of wilsheres injury woes have not been from singular crunching tackles. Rather continued stress which resulted in hairline fractures. Personally I don’t think there’s much the ref can do. Football is a contact sport. And if you observe..most of the tackles wilshere gets are not intended to be malicious. They just happen.
I don’t think that’s the case. He was injured in a tackle from Agger, McNair and one (allegedly) from Gabriel in training.. just off the top of my head, but even the stress fractures, what is he supposed to do about that? It’s either his natural running motion which he can’t change or a succession of tackles weakening the ankle, which are the opposing players fault, not his.
I’m not sure it’s necessarily true that he can’t change his running motion. I seem to remember Robin Van Persie doing something along those lines (among other things) to try to cure his persistent injuries.
The way Wilshere runs on the outside edges of his feet surely can’t be helpful if his ankle is constantly turned whilst running? His lower legs also look quite bandy – not suggesting he can do anything to straighten them, but I wonder if that is a factor.
Absolutely gutted for Jack. It’s been an inevitability for a while that he is just never going to have a full season for Arsenal. Which is such a shame. I’ll never forget when he burst on to the scene and he had an unbelievable debut season at 16, and it looked like we had really a special player on our hands. Must be brutal for him to be totally banjaxed again.
Wilshere has as good a vision and passing range as someone like Verratti. Verratti plays as a DLP, so should Jack.
These acronyms for playing positions are getting ridiculous now, as are the ways people state formations (I think we should play a 2-2-1-2-1-1-1 formation myself).
All great dribblers of the ball could dive or be quick enough to hit the ball then immediately loosening their legs so not to absorb the force of the tackles.
Jack “the English tackle hard” Wilshere is almost done.
He has to either keep the ball very close and dive or release the ball more quickly and jump to avoid injuries.
If he can’t understand this simple fact or just insists on being stupid, his career is dead.
Gutted!!
In other news, economists now call the Great Depression “a little setback”…
From the backpage: Diaby “on the road to recovery”
Still got love for Abou even though he might be the most Arsenal* player ever…
*As in Arsenal over the recent, hideously unlucky/self-sabotaging years
“Marseille hope to have Abou Diaby ready in a month”
http://www.espnfc.us/marseille/story/2604805/marseille-hope-to-have-abou-diaby-ready-in-a-month
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Look, I hope he’s 100% at some point, but the OM supporters need to get used to multiplying all estimates of return 3x at the least.
“little setback” = being transported back in time to the jurrassic period and trampled by saurapods before being sliced into a million tiny pieces by Samurai warriors on his way back to 2015
that’s my bet
Quite the contrary. Actually “little setback” = stumbled into a cryogenic freezing chamber and will not be available until at least the year 3015. Most likely 3016 as he tore his ACL when he fell in.
At least Arsene Wenger will still be the manager when he comes out.
Title should be “WILSHERE RECOVERING MORE SLOWLY AS EXPECTED”..
I believe Wilshere will come better and amazing like the American Navy seal who took out Bin Laden and went on to get a book deal and has already contacted the Greek government looking to buy an Island with the proceeds from his book to help Greece through the economic crisis that is threatening the EU; Thereby helping refugees flooding into Europe and making the world a better place. By shere will power they brace the desert, storms all in bid to visit the Dalai Lama, who preaches about peace and justice which are two pillars of the modern world… Read more »
the news has been so dire lately it almost feels as if arseblog News is trolling all of us daily.

Ladies and gentlemen, I can envision a day when the brains of brilliant men can be kept alive in the bodies of dumb people.
It’s a sad day when Arsenal fans take the piss out of their own players for getting hurt, as so many on Twitter do. Hope everyone laughs hysterically at them if they break their leg falling down the stairs.
All the best, Jack. Hope to see you back on the pitch soon.
Yeah news credibility on injuries from Wenger’s mouth is as good as the news on transfers by the tabloids now
Diaby infected them all. He is patient zero.
And this comes as a shock to absolutely nobody!
I really worry about Jack. When was the last time he managed an uninterrupted run of games in the first XI? He’s so talented but if he hasn’t shaken off the injuries by the time he’s 25 then I will start to have doubts about whether he’ll make it to the top of his game. It would be such a shame to see a player of his quality held back for Arsenal and for England.
Slower than who expected?
Certainly not me – I knew they’d be a setback given Arsenal’s medical team’s history
What do I do?
And in other news, Earth in orbit around Sun.
but there’s a jet black shadow over it …
Jack is not back, but hopefully will boost us to the title next April … get well soon
We don’t need Jack to thump the Orcs. But we do need some fecking goals!!!
Really expecting the officials to start protecting him more in future, he’s been establishing himself as a very important player for Ingerlund so surely the favouritism, nepotism and arselickism that Rooney et al receive can be but moments away.
Of course he is. And the sun rises every morning.
If I could just say a few words…
I’d be a better public speaker
Arsenal need to do a much better job of managing expectations.
With Jack, they should just adopt a policy of telling us all twice what the medical staff initially says. Pleasant surprises are so much better than an endless string of these.
Get well Jacky. Get Really well. I want to see you happy and healthy.
Wilshere doesn’t need to change his style of play – that’s asking way too much. Anyone that has played the sport would know that’s a difficult task. What he needs to learn to do is to release the ball a second earlier. Still dribble, but when it comes one v one in a congested area, play a pass. Look at the best dribblers in the game, Messi and Iniesta. They are a lot smaller than jack, but know that if they take that one extra touch they’re gonna get hacked. So he needs to learn to avoid that. One thing… Read more »
Yeah, Messi does it incredibly well. Put him in the PL though where players are allowed to go in a little harder and maybe he would have a few more injuries too. I love the PL, but this is a big factor in why players like Zidane and the real Ronaldo were never really interested in playing in England. The number of injuries is a lot higher than any of the other top European leagues. Barcelona, Buyern, Real, they are always fielding most of their starting 11 when it comes down to the CL knockout rounds. Arsenal on the other… Read more »
good point…
Nice Dark Knight logo chest hair.
It’s a bit sad to think of what could have been with Wilshere after his career started so brilliantly at Arsenal. In the last few years he’s play 9 (2014/15), 19 (13/14), 20 (12/13) and 0 (11/12) after playing 31 premier league matches in 10/11 (seems so long ago) so in the last four years he’s played 48 out of 152 possible PL matches, many of which he was not nearly in top form returning from injury. I can’t see him playing more than 20 matches this season either.
