Per Mertesacker has hailed the performance of Petr Cech after the Arsenal goalkeeper’s saves helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet and win three points yesterday.
Although the goals of Alexis and the Gunners attacking performance caught the eye, the BFG was keen to dish our praise to the 33 year old who made some excellent saves to deny United at crucial times.
“We gave them two or three chances,” he said, “but we have a great goalkeeper as well and he did well also, so defensively I think we can build on that.”
Mertesacker was also effusive about the way Arsenal’s forward line clicked on the day, with two goals from Alexis, a goal and an assist for Mesut Ozil, and an assist from Theo Walcott.
“It’s very important that they find each other in the final third,” he said. “You could see the little pass from Theo Walcott to Mesut Ozil, how important that was, just a tiny little ball, and on the break we are very dangerous.
“The start was not shocking for us, I think we are capable of doing that, but we have to kind of remind ourselves that we can do such things.”
And what a nice reminder that was.
Wonderful performance yesterday.
Definitely the best Walcott has ever played without scoring. Incisive, selfless and creative. Exactly the sort of attitude and output we need from him.
Özil and Cazorla pulled more strings than a family of travelling puppeteers. Alexis was Alexis and the rest of the team stood up to be counted as well.
Hopefully the fire remains throughout the interlull. Come on you bloody beautiful Gunners.
Theo’s performance and attitude in this game (and recent ones) is best summed up by the moment in the second half when he pressed the right back, the keeper then the left back to force them to kick it out for a throw.
That moment got me off my seat at 4am in utter appreciation (quite literally). The assists were great but that work rate and desire are hopefully going to become the standard not the exception moving forward.
What a win
Arsene smeared his batton’ all over Van Gaals face.
I dont know about that. But I did see him smear his Coq all over the place.
What was also enjoyable was that the overpaid Granny-fucker played and failed to score, like he normally does against us.
Up the Arsenal.
Not to mention he played absolutely terrible, brilliant to see. This is a guy who earns more in a week that Mesut & Alexis combined…..let that sink in
Mr. Bloggs, By The Numbers Please
Only if the Ox was hot in form. Imagine the front line of Alexis, Theo Ox. But nevermind it will happen
I’m still reeling that the ox’s chip hit the bar haha
Exactly right? Poor Ox just can’t catch a break lately!
Not saying it would have mattered, but he could have squared the ball to Giroud who was free on goal and bagged as assist.
I understand OX is trying to get to his double figure goal scores, but an assist would have been a good starter for him and the team.
But hadn’t Giroud just missed a bit of a sitter in a similar position? I was kind of happy to see the Ox take that one
Brilliant performance from back to front. Delighted for Theo, his energy, movement and commitment yesterday showed just what I’ve always believed he has to offer. Two assists, too. Something that really pleased me yesterday was to see Mert and Cech embracing after the match finished, smiles all over their faces. Those two rocks in the defence seem to have struck up a good friendship as well as a real partnership. And with Gabriel doing so well, it’s unbeliveable to be able to say we barely missed our Kos yesterday. More clean sheets please! Now all that’s needed is what le… Read more »
Unbelievable effort….mesmerising display of attacking football (first half), defensive tenacity (secon half)…and the sight of wenger, on the touchline towards the end of 2nd half, screaming instructions to the squad to get back in shape, arsene wenger?….never thought i will see him do that….he must have been sneaking in here to read our comments this last week?…and some say he dosen’t listen?
Bonus for me?…ramming all the negative comments down the throat of all those fucking ‘pundits’…….priceless!
Now on to a happy, quiet and hopefully injury free international break….COYG!!
Comment: Dear 7am, still patiently awaiting your lordship’s analysis.
The scary truth is that this team has it in them to even play better…Welbeck, Wilshere, Rosicky and Koscielny not even fit.
Cech is the real deal – he was a study on calmness yesterday.
We are well equipped to give City a good title challenge.
As always, it will comes down to our ability to rise to the big occasions. My huge optimism at this result is tempered by my apprehension, knowing that an isolated result is not enough, based on previous false dawns after fantastic individual results. We’ve had 2 blockbuster games so far – this one and Chelsea (which was obviously ruined by moronic refereeing but was still a tepid performance). We clearly cannot rely on the fecklessness of our rivals (even though it is deliciously schadenfreude-tastic) – I think realistically we need to target 3 points at home v Chelsea, 4 points… Read more »
I have to say your analysis is on point. The key point being is that we don’t lose and ensure that we take advantage of home games against our title rivals. The home support yesterday was amazing and I’m pretty sure it played no small part in buoying our lads’ confidence, so let’s keep are end up to make sure that we get a maximum return on our home games.
Yeah – I am also given hope by the fact that in addition to having the game at Stamford Bridge out of the way (given that we never, ever seem to win it when Mourinho is in situ) and notched a confidence-boosting win over MU (who, lest we forget, we’ve had a torrid time against both home and away for many years), the remaining fixtures look eminently do-able. City have shown they are vulnerable despite some swashbuckling attacking and we should have confidence after turning them over at the Etihad last year. A draw in the away match and a… Read more »
Only problem is that Borinho won’t be in charge be the time the reverse fixture happens!!
The scary truth is that this team has it in them to even play better…Welbeck, Wilshere, Rosicky and Koscielny not even part of the party.
Cech is the real deal – he was a study on calmness yesterday.
We are well equipped to give City a good title challenge. I believe.
Liverpool inadvertently saved ManU’s embarrassment!
It appears tiny to you..because you are soo tall Mert..!
Great game, even better result.
Nice to hear Mertesacker hail all departments. When the BFG first arrived he seemed so nervous, now he’s a leader on and off the pitch, and he clearly observes and analyses all he can see. A future in management maybe? Either way, we’ve witnessed a fine ‘Permutation’.
Don’t you just love Theo’s tiny little balls?
Two assists Mr Blogs, Theo had two assists. And one brilliant tackle!
Cech certainly doesn’t look as quick as he once was, especially going down on balls, but that doesn’t matter as he is assured, calm and in control back there. Far cry from our keeps post-Lehman. Tied for fewest goals allowed in the league after 8 matches. Gabriel really has acclimated to the team and the league so quickly. He seems tailor made to the type of defense Wenger wants to play with great agility and quickness, yet strong and powerful in challenges. The knock on him when we signed him was his playing with the ball, but just like Coquelin… Read more »
Great to see those guys are there for each other when it matters. Per was solid throughout but on one of the rare occasions where he failed to deal with Martial, Cech was there and showed what a badass keeper he is. Also Gabriel did some great clean tackles and cleared with headers, and in a rare moment when he misplaced a pass, the whole team regrouped quickly at the back and dealt with that. Our forward line clicking was a great thing to see, but their brilliance means that they often do. What stood out for me though, is… Read more »
Cech money well spent. Per and Gabriel (and the back line were solid. I think Per truly appreciates the concentration level that Cech brings, he gave him thumbs up when the keeper came out to take out Schweinsteiger. No question about cech’s position when fit, number one. But the team is starting to sync together further forward as well. They are starting to get the range on Walcott’s movement and Theo is also impressive with his awareness and decision making. Alexis and him are combining very effectively indeed and could be a menace for any defense PL or otherwise so… Read more »
Thought Per had a good game…Considering Martials Pace and Utds attempt to isolate him 1vs1.
Martial only got the better of Per twice over the 90mins.
