Arsene Wenger says that it will be later this afternoon before the full extent of Francis Coquelin’s injury is known, but revealed the midfielder would be out for ‘at least’ two months.
The French midfielder clashed with Claudio Yacob in the first half at the Hawthorns and left the ground on crutches. Arsenal haven’t yet analysed the full extent of the injury but it’s a huge blow given how important he’s become over the last 11 months.
“I’m always cautious,” he said. “It will be at least two months but I don’t want to speculate more than that. He has a scan today – we will know how long this afternoon.”
So, we’ll have to wait and see just how long, fingers crossed it’s not any more than that but you can’t help but fear the worst.
More on this when we get it.
So he’s probably out for the rest of the season
RECALL AND TRANSFORM SANOGO
Let’s not jump to any conclusions until we’ve had our Coq fully checked out and examined…
#prayforcoq
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannddd it’s gone, it’s all gone.
Arsenal injury timescales are like dog years.
B*llocks. At least Ramsey is back but we need our Coq. Hope we have adapted in the three easier games coming up, before City and Southampton.
Easy like West Brom were meant to be?
*Easier* than City or Southampton.
Not necessarily easy, though they are all in the bottom 5.
Absolutely ridiculous decision to not sign a good back up for Coquelin.
To hope that Coquelin remains injury free throughout the season is piss poor management. This is not speaking in hindsight, we’ve been saying ever since the window shut that we’re screwed if Coquelin gets injured.
Are you from the past?
Funny, my comment about not having enough quality players, just the other day, got plenty of thumbs down… So, what have I said that is so wrong and has not been confirmed in the last game? These things cost us a title, it is no joke, and I cannot understand so much optimism in our supporter base. This next set of games should’ve been a walk in the park and that should’ve established us in the first position. Now I fear what will happen next… Hopefully nothing like last 10 years, title-wise.
Vermaelen would fit in perfectly as a DM, he has all the qualities we need…..
I was taking the piss
Apologies, but the point still stands. People on here yesterday were suggesting putting Debuchy at dm, and they certainly weren’t taking the piss!
‘Stop taking the piss!’…Wenger to UEFA
I wish people would stop proposing centre backs and full backs as potential defensive mids. It really isn’t that easy just to swap between the two- if Wenger thinks Chambers is capable I’ll believe him but apart from that there’s no indication any of our defenders would be anything but woeful there, it’s a completely different position irrespective of whether the intending role is similar.
Nonsense, Man United won championships and Champions league’s with players like John O’Shea and Phil Jones covering in midfield, so it does work.
In fact i distinctly remember us getting beaten either 4-0 or 4-2 by Utd with O’Shea in the middle scoring an excellent chip
that was ferguson. this is wenger
True, it funny what having a manager can do to a team. Guardiola also plays Philipp Lahm as a defensive midfielder but what does he know?
Wtf
Season jeopardiser.
Time to step up to the plate Mr Bielik?
I have read some time ago, and I think that it was on this blog, that Wenger has turned Bielik into a centre back.
Is it true?
That’s mainly where he plays for the U21’s I think
It’s not uncommon for Wenger to put players into U21 game roles where they need to hone particular skills. If he wants Bielik to develop a stronger understanding on tackling, reading the game and tracking runs (all good traits for a DM), then centre back is a good stomping ground to gain those skills. Much in the same way that he likes to have his strikers play on the wing so that they can learn how to beat players and gain a better ball control, skills he likes in his forwards. Simply put, don’t think that because he is playing… Read more »
Callum and Krystian currently readying their inner-Coqs. Hopefully they’ll be able to fill the gap.
Cursed
We need another COQ, ASAP!
Time to recall Hayden maybe? He can be our Coq part 2 this season
Haydon
Issac HaydEn is on a season long loan so he can’t be recalled.
Well, his injury is the worst case scenario isn’t it? I think this will really push Wenger to dwell in the DMF transfer market in January. But who.. who will replace our beloved Coq?
As ever the optimist, it’s times like these where we accidentally tend to unearth a gem from our own squad.
I think Chambers will be the surprise for us this year.
I’d be having kittens about chambers as CDM
A spare coq always comes in handy
Yeah, but really, how many people in the world have two Coqs? Give Wenger a break everyone.
You can’t help but feel the way we handle this situation will make or break our title challange. Certainly hope AW doesnt use the fact that Coq will be back “soon” as an excuse not to buy a replacement/cover in january. Knee injuries have a tendency to stay with players for a while after recovery.
You say this, but deep down we know that a replacement being bought is about as likely as Denaerys and Robb Stark getting together to make a direwolf/dragon baby hybrid to wipe out the white walkers.
Buy a new DM in january or get a Targaryen/Stark love child to wipe out white walkers, someone get that poll going ffs!
I think the white walkers have less ‘DOOM’ around them than losing coq, to be honest
We cannot compete without him, unless we sign a slab of re-reinforced concrete which covers the entire width of the pitch 😉
P.S. Long-term reader of Arseblog, this is my first ever comment. Hello everyone!
Our coq was rock hard.
This one hurts. Everyone could see it happening, too. Which is what makes it even more frustrating.
Anyways, on a positive note, our players tend to come back from injuries ahead of schedule, in comparison to earlier years. The amount of injuries we get is still an absolute joke, but let’s hope our Coq recovers soon enough to penetrate the EPL.
Actually I would be somewhat relieved if it really is only 2 months. My first impression the moment I saw the incident in real time was posterior cruciate injury. And cruciate injuries are usually tricky, and long lay offs to say the least. Hope it doesn’t turn out so.
The only answer is to sign a slab of reinforced concrete that stretches the entire width of the pitch.
i guess this is your second comment then. you don’t need to repeat yourself to be heard in here!
There’s an echo in here !
well, too bad we don’t have protection for our coq
We didn’t learn from Charlie Sheen
Our cock is impotent 🙁
You mean Coq, what you said is pure unadulterated filth…
This is the last time I comment using my phone. I’ll apologise for my juvenile behaviour.
The phone of a true gooner would autocorrect “cock” to “Coq”
<—kidding
My phone password is coyg. Not really relevant but felt it fitting to say it there.
Always someone lowering the tone..
Here we are; stranded without a class DM to cover Coquelin. Thanks Arsene for not signing Schneiderlin or some other real DM. Arteta of Flamini don’t cut it for a title challenge team.
Why the fuck have you just got down arrows for that ???
Nail on the head !!
Well every Arsenal fan saw this coming except wenger. Exprcting cquilrn to be available for 40+ games(assuming all are important) id madness let alone 50+ games. What pisses me off is that arteta and flamini arent even average anymore, they are well below average. I would take the Mcarthur of palaces and Mcarthy of evertons of this world right about now. they are that poor playing in that role. give chambers an extended run out. If we are self distructing in the market we might as well give youth chance. # chambers fir DM.
too many errors. wow I am high thats the problem.
What are they smoking over there at the Emirates ?
We all know Campbell takes no prisoners when defending, maybe he can do Coq’s job?
Can Gabriel play there?
He or Kos probably could, but then whenever one needs a rest or gets a knock we’re fucked. To me this is more a matter of disrupting as few positions as possible. But for some reason I just sense Ozil being pushed to the left, and Ramsey or Santi into AM and the other paired back with someone else. Not at all what I want to see, but I smell it coming. When does Ox get back again? We really need him on the wing. And Jack, right now the table is set for you to nearly walk right back… Read more »
No one likes a broken Coq!
Get well soon, Francis!
Croqed….
Flamini will do just fine. You guys are all getting way to excited. Have a little faith.
You think flamini can hack playing every week for three months ? No chance .
He will get injured and/or will struggle to keep up
Ramsey is back. Flaming won’t need to play every game. We’ll be fine. Jesus you lot are depressing.
Maybe we should play Cech as our DM and move Ospina in goal. We would win the title for sure;)
Where did we get this “world Class’ Coq? Who brought him into the first team. How much did we pay in the transfer market for him? Who said he should leave because he was not world class and he should ‘get out while he can’? Fluke from the academy? Like Bellerin? Think you know more than the gaffer then? Think we should have bought world class like City in De Bruyne for 55m instead of ozil for 42.3m? Or maybe plump 36m for Martial instead of Alexis for 35m? Or perhaps Walcott can’t play through the middle? Or Olivier can’t… Read more »
boo
Well I thought it would be worse… although it’s still very bad. But in recent times we have seen players coming back earlier so maybe Shad can work his magic this time too.
