According to Sambafoot.com, Gabriel has been called up by Brazil for their upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifiers with Argentina and Peru.
The centre-back hadn’t initially been included in Dunga’s squad for the Interlull double-header, however, after injuries to both PSG’s Marquinhos and Real Madrid’s Marcelo, the Arsenal man and Atletico Mineiro’s Douglas Santos (seemingly the John Smith of Brazilian names) have been given the nod.
Brazil play Argentina in Buenos Aires on 12 November and then host Peru at five days later. So a fair bit of travelling for Gabriel…just when it looked as though he might get a rest.
One man who will get a rest, although he probably doesn’t want it, is Mathieu Debuchy. The right-back, who’ll likely start against Sp*rs on Sunday in the absence of Hector Bellerin, has again been left out of the France squad by Didier Deschamps and appears to be losing his battle to secure a Euro 2016 place.
Laurent Koscielny, despite his hip problem, and Olivier Giroud are both included by Les Bleus ahead of their game with England at Wembley.
Now if only Deschamps would do the obvious and give Coquelin a call up! Although I suppose France’s loss is our gain really.
There’s already a couple of Coq’s in the French team!
Coq deserves to be in their starting XI but with the resurgence of Diarra, this is not gonna happen. Our ol Diarra who thought he was too good for Arsenal.
Deschamps preferring Diarra after 10 good games playing with Marseille when previous to that he wasn’t playing a whole season. Cabaye and Schneiderlin also preferred. Not to mention the likes of Gonalons and Imbula not even getting looked at. A shame really, Coq deserves a chance in the team.
France can’t half produce solid CDMs can they? Jeez so many to pick from!
Perhaps Makalele has opened up a Clairefontaine for DMs.
I agree, Benzema is abit of coq.
Gabriel needs this. He’s gonna train with the Selecao and come back even more determined to be the best he can be. Great news for him and for us too.
Our Angel Gabriel more than deserves this!
I lime Gabriel alot. Still has some learning to do as evidenced by the midweek week game but he seems like a smart enough fella to learn from his mistakes. He’s young and is only going to get better in his career trajectory.
Zest, juice or the whole thing?
Put the lime with the Gabriel, get a Brazil call up
you put the lime with the Gabriel, get a Brazil call up
you put the lime with the Gabriel, get a Brazil call up
you put the lime with the Gabriel, call the Doctor, woke him up
I said Doctor……
I lime Gabriel a lot too! Deserves a call up, he can only get better!
That comment left a bitter taste in my mouth
Only slightly related, but does anyone know what the exact rule is regarding injured players and international call-ups? I seem to remember some shitstorm last year regarding a player who had not been made available for the national team due to injury playing in his club’s next match, but cannot remember (or easily google) the specifics. Is there a rule saying those too injured to join their national team are not allowed to play in their team’s next game? And if so, will this prevent us from playing Ramsey, Ox, Rosicky and/or Walcott (if any of them are deemed fit… Read more »
Great news. With Ozil spared selection it means he won’t get proper fucked up by a Gabriel interlull special like Wilshere did ?
Can;t really complain at this. These games actually count.
He deserves it
“It” here being PROPER GAME TIME and good chunk of it too, not 2 or 3 injury times mins to run down the clock or just to walk off buses showing of beats by dre headphones.
Anyone else think we seriously dodged a bullet by not landing Karim. Jesus he is not the sharpest tool in the box.
He isn’t but his professionalism on the pitch isn’t that far off. Having said so if Hazard does end up at Real that means either one of Ronaldo, Benzema or Bale will be moved on. I hope Arsene pounces on that and I’ll be hated for this, but I’ll take Bale any day. The least settled of the 3 and premier league proven.
I really hope Diego Costs’s on the end of that look
And that picture was actually taken in a dark alleyway
And Costa’s about to find out that Gabriel isn’t actually the Angel Gabriel but in fact the Not so nice Gabriel with a hate for lying, diving, cheating scum and a love for beating up people he hates
Great news and thankfully Costa discovered his Spanish wanker dna beforehand.
Regarding Gibbs and Debucshy, my opinion on this is they just need a moral boost. And as fans it seems like our job.
We know you mean morale.
Debuchy played a good defensive game against spurs. I thinkbhe tends not tobmake the mistakes that Bellerin makes up for with raw pace. Obviously bellerin offers something dofferent on the overlap. Devuchy strikes me as not unlike Nacho Monreal, actually. I think he needs a few games to find his form, and understandibly that would improve his tandem with Joel Campbell, or whoever is fit in front of him.
Circumstance (read: young Hector) are probably going to cost him a place in the France team next summer, though.
José Silva would be John Smith. Douglas Santos not far behind though!
