Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck’s injury problems are ongoing and that the forward won’t be returning to action in January as planned.
The England international has been out since April with bone bruising on his knee, and underwent surgery in September to help fix the problem. Unfortunately it seems there’s still some way go, and that the issue remains one of concern to the Arsenal medical staff.
“Unfortunately he was injured at the end of April,” said Wenger, “and we are now at the end of December and he is still not available because of a bone bruising.
“That has deteriorated and it is a big blow to us.Especially now we cannot rotate.”
So, it sounds as if things are getting worse, not better, and it remains to be seen if this will have an impact on any January transfer activity.
The Guardian article also suggests that Jack Wilshere could return towards the end of January after the initial prognosis was for a return in time for the festive fixtures. With Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla also sidelined, and Mikel Arteta in and out of fitness, the need for midfield recruitment is obvious.

I’d take Hazard for two reasons, it would kill the Chelsea fans to see him playing for us, and I think Arsene could get him back to his best.

I’ve never thought of myself as being bitter but really enjoying Cesc terrible season.
I wouldn’t put Cesc in the same class as Sagna. I always hated Cesc since he left for the way he forced the move. That’s not the kind of character we want back in the squad, and I’m sure that’s why Wenger didn’t bring him back.
Would love to have Hazard in our team. Very skilful player and still young.
As for Cesc, only if he is on some sort of blue cross sale equivalent.
We should bid high for Cesc, have them accept, hopefully get him to further burn his bridges at Chelsea, and get his hopes up of a liberation from that absolute shithole. Then agree very good personal terms.
