Petr Cech says Arsenal did well to secure a point against Stoke City as their first goalless draw since August saw the Gunners return to the top of the table.
The Czech keeper, who was awarded the man of the match award, needed to make a series of important saves in the second half as the home side looked to counter the Gunners dominant possession game in second half performance.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the 33-year-old said: “I thought Stoke did very well. In the first half we had a chance to go one-nil up but Jack [Butland] made a good save.
“In the second half the momentum lifted a little bit and they had some chances to score. Butland made another good save from the [Giroud’s] header.
“We could have won, we could have lost. We can take the point.”
“When we were coming here we could hear everyone saying we were going to lose again [at Stoke]. We showed everyone we can compete and in the circumstances we take the point and move on. We were unlucky to concede a late goal in midweek, today we take the point. We are in the position we wanted to be and now we turn to a home game. We’re ready to compete again.

He continued: “I was pleased with my contribution. Sometimes it can be a tricky game. You try to keep your composure in the tricky conditions, every back pass you get you try to make sure you do it perfectly so that the players in front of you feel you’re confident and they can relax. It always helps, so I try to do that. I’m happy in the second half I managed to keep everything out.

Top top keeper.
Not sure whats going on recently on arseblog news. but there has been a lot of doubling up.

I’ve noticed the same thing
Clearly each report needs to be atleast 200 words or something like a paper you would give to your professor and hope he wont notice 😉
I’ve noticed the same thing
It’s something to do with the Arseblog News Hound. I don’t think it happens to the stories I write. If it does, please let me know.
Way to pass the buck bloggs 😉
Some people are a bunch of miserable gits! Thanks for the hard work and quick updates.
No misery here man. But out of genuine willingness to help. Maybe there was a bug or something.
The window’s open, so a chance to sign a new News Hound.
#NewNewsHound
Haven’t noticed it on the blogs. Just on news stories.
You can say that again.
You get a like just for “Me So Hornsey”. *laughing it up”…
Next week (Chelsea) chances are we will be third but we will probably come top again once City have to play their away matches. We really need to stay close because I belive we will win the final sprint once our injured players are all back and match fit.
Are you saying we are going to lose to the chavs???
IMO we will put them to the sword big style.
Just saying…
Nah mate, we’re going to tear Chelsea a new one. We’ll have Ozil and Alexis back, elneny will have had a chance to gel with the team..
I say once we’re three up we bring Gabriel on so he can rip Costa’s face off.
Costa suffered a ”serious injury” though
Somehow when he made that save I knew he would make the second save.. if that was szczesny forget it he’d still be on the ground after the first save probably wont even make the first save let alone the second. Well done Cech
I want us to win the league but it’s not looking like that at all we need to buy a world class player/striker or two someone who can hit the back net COYG
If you think Giroud is the problem, you haven’t been watching very hard this season…
Cech was Man of the Match and he kept us at the top of the table. His abilities and his quality defensive leadership is making his fee look preposterous. Thanks, Jose!
To be fair, their keeper kept them in the game as well…
Quite happy with that as far as being happy with 0-0 away results can go.
We were far more solid than at Anfield, stood up to Stoke’s fouling along with the ref’s pacifism.
Really felt the Stoke crowd were frustrated and generally bricking it in the last 20 minutes. Which was good. It’s showed a different side to us. Gritty. Still top. On we go.
Cech might have cost us the point (on points) in the season opener but how many points has he gained for us since? he’s been crucial even in games that we won by two goals because his saves preserved the lead at times.
(or points*)
To see Shawcross and Arunotic left a bad test in the mouth.
I was hoping for a moment in the game where they left looking silly!
SB I’m guessing you mean taste but I hope you mean testical. Much more fitting. No pube intended.
Many thanks to u sir(Cech) , for keeping out all those orcs shots.
On to the next match lads, a must win please, we hope you’ll give it ur all! COYG.
There’s no one Betr than Petr.
Arsenal really could ve won this with better precision but I think we did well to at least get away with a point after man u,man city and Liverpool lost there.
And Chelsea, although I see we’re just talking about top sides here
Love you Pete but all this showed is we miss the likes of Özil and Alexis loads, our bench is massively weak, we have loads of injuries as usual and we need to sign a striker.
Happy we’re top again!
You don’t sound happy.
Not unhappy just worried.
Its crunch time games now, and flu season coyg
I am still disappointed that we failed to yield 3 points when it mattered most. Now we are facing Chelsea who seriously need points than we do. The Chelsea game will be more difficult than any other. We might as well kiss the championship goodbye.
