Arsene Wenger says his Arsenal players came through Wednesday’s evening’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool unscathed.
As his side get ready for Sunday’s clash with Stoke City, the boss also revealed that new signing Mohamed Elneny could be included for the first time and confirmed that Alexis Sanchez is in contention.
If both men are taken to the Britannia it would mean players dropping from the bench with youngster Alex Iwobi one of the most likely candidates.
Wenger also revealed that he’s looking forward to having Danny Welbeck as an option. Asked whether he’d be looking to sign more players in January, the boss played up the qualities of the England international and revealed the striker is now just two to three weeks away from full fitness.
He didn’t quite say ‘LANS’…but he might as well have!
I thought Danny was still out till end of feb. If he is in the manager’s thoughts for a game in the next two weeks then great. Welcome Elneny.
not a chance of Danny being ready to play a first team game in two or three weeks, it will be, when he comes back, like Rosicky now, he will need to play some U21 games before AW can think about putting him in first team action. It will be the same with Wilshere. All 3 have been out for between 4 and 10 months, they will need preparation games before they can step up to first team action. Otherwise we would be asking for more injury trouble. If Welbeck is back in full training in 2 to 3 weeks,… Read more »
I rather have Danny on left flank than theo. His workrate is as great as Campbell. Then bring on theo when the defenders are tired out.
I think it’s time to use Rosicky.
Someone of his ability to dominate the midfield was clearly lacking like in the game against Liverpool especially when Santis out.
And Alexis?
Would be a good option, Theo needs a break. But I think Wenger would go for Sanchez or Ox over Welbeck, who will need to be eased back into the team
Theo needs a break from what sir?
Theo on the wings just doesn’t suit Arsenal anymore. He needs to rotate with Giroud depending on the opposition / situation in a game.
He’s too lazy to play out wide. He left Monreal so exposed on Wednesday night on so many occasions. Walcott doesn’t have the brains to play out there either, every time we broke forward he messed up the move, with either a poor run, or running down a blind alley and losing possession. Walcott is an instinctive player, he’s not a thinker like Ozil, Santi, or even Ramsey. Out wide you have to really think about your game, with diagonal runs, tracking runners off the ball – its not his game. Whereas when he is playing as a striker, his… Read more »
What about Sanchez???
rotate Theo and Giroud to keep both of them sharp for the rest of the season.
Game on
If we manage to beat Stoke City, then we are in a good position to maintain our good run. Chelsea is no longer intimidating as the team finds it difficult to even maintain lead at home. The fear factor is gone.
With Alexis back, and hopefully passes the late fitness test and comes out of Stoke City matched unscathed,Chelsea is there for taking.
I am getting more exited. There’s no better news than having Wellback, Le Coq, Wilshere et al, all back for the title run in. This, should be our year.
Dont worry about Chelsea, the jinx was on Mourinho. We can beat them now
It’s great to have more options available at this stage of the season. Would like to see Elneny against Stoke.
Can’t wait to see homeboy Welbeck playing again, get well homey, the Almighty Arsenal needs your ass!
We need his legs, not his ass.
Homeboy? What the actual tuck are you talking about?
I guess he knows him from the 8-tray cribs, cuz. *throws gang signs*
What Deeboo said yo.
Isn’t Welbeck a manc? hehe
Welbz will hopefully be ready to start on the 28th Feb
Didn’t I see this episode in September? You know, the one where we get told Welbz is nearing a return but has an op after the window closes?!!!
I’m happy with the squad but still think Aubemeyang would complete it
He ain’t joining bruv.
Welbeck was close to a comeback in September, but the pain returned once he stepped up to full training, and so he had to go for an op, the same happened with Rosicky, who had the same injury. Rosicky is now back in full training and only needs some game time with the U21’s to get his match fitness up, before he returns to first team action. There is no reason to think it will be any different with Welbeck,
With Elneny already on board and players coming back in numbers, we are sure to have a smooth ride to the title.
I’m not sure what planet you’re on. But Arsenal? Smooth? In one sentence? Lol.
Alexis, Theo, Ox, Campbell, Welbeck, Iwobi, Jeff, (Gnabry on loan) so many players on the wing (which some can play in front too). Wenger has to make a really difficult decision next season.
Don’t really think so. The youngsters are not experienced yet to demand a first team place. Gnabry needs to go out on loan again and so does Jeff and Iwobi. The others will all be injured at some point next season. They are never fit at all times
Great news! I’m still in favour of playing Sanchez upfront, we tend to forget a lot of play breaks down when he loses the ball. We need his magic further up the field. Welbz for me is ideally suited to play on the left wing and can rotate happily in the CF and RWF positions. We need to be less rigid upfront in the second half of the season to continue to confuse defences and score more goals!
Playing Sanchez up front could really be effective in certain matches especially if we play a team that likes to play out of the back so we can have a pressing lineup with Sanchez, Campbell, Welbeck, etc. on the wings to help press. We just can’t do that with Giroud in there. Sanchez brings some unique qualities to the striker position and would allow the wings to rotate in behind him when he drops into different areas to pickup the ball. Of course Giroud offers a number of things the other options don’t, but also has his limitations (as would… Read more »
With the news that Real and Athletico Madrid have a transfer Ban this summer and next Jan, they’ll be looking to bring some long term targets in early, before the end of this window and AW will be hanging round to see who he can make a deal on when they need to make space…
it won’t stick. i doubt they’re worried.
I think you’re probably right, but if….
Elneny signed, datguy welbz finally getting close along with Wilshere Rosicky and Alexis boy it is looking bright! Good times ahead gooners 🙂
As much as Risicky is a top creative player giving his age and injury record I think it would be a good move him as a DM. He is always fighting for the ball , he is good tackler plus his vision may open up passes for our front line when on counter. Also his experience is a big plus, I see him there far more than Arteta who done for us well , but his speed and decision making been an issue in recent years…
DAT GUY!
Alexis up front, Wele and Campbell in attack would be awesome!
Coquelin is back in light training too, like Welbeck he is due back in full training in 2 to 3 weeks.
I’m a bit nervous about Stoke –Imagine that! — but I hope he rests Alexis and makes sure he is 100% before he comes back. I would like to see Iwobi play in this game. He seems very intelligent about where to be and where to put the ball. I want to get fully behind Theo but here is my reservation: the really good strikers will contort their bodies in whatever way necessary to make positive contact on the ball. (My guess is this is something you develop by playing regularly as a 9.) Giroud does this. I have not… Read more »
