What a comeback from injury that was for Danny Welbeck yesterday. Out since last April with a knee injury, the England international rose highest in the last minute of injury time to glance a header past Kaspar Schmeichel to secure a 2-1 win for the Gunners.
He celebrated wildly with the crowd, got himself a yellow card but he didn’t care, and after such a long time on the sidelines, it was clearly an emotional moment for him.
Speaking to the official site, he talked about the goal and what it meant to him, saying, “It was a wonderful feeling to get that winning goal at the end. It’s been a long time off the pitch, the longest period of time that I’ve spent off playing matches in my career. It’s difficult.
“I think you’ve just got to try to stay positive. I had a lot of great help behind the scenes with the medical staff and with James Haycock, who worked with me personally and was great. I think hard work eventually pays off.”
He also touched on his exuberant celebrations, racing over to share the moment with fans, before picking up the best yellow card of his career.
“I don’t even know what I was doing,” he said. “The facials were going crazy! I’ve seen a couple of pictures and it was just euphoria after and I jumped in the crowd.”
And why wouldn’t he? Welcome back Welé, we’ve missed you.
Such an incredible moment. Sometimes you do get these moments that reignite your season and that could be it. Leicester have an easier run than us and no European games to contend with but hopefully they will be stewing on that sucker punch for the next two weeks. We have to assume that top 4 is assured and I think we need to go for it and take chances to get wins. Wenger showed he is willing to take calculated gambles yesterday and that could be the difference in whether or not we win the league. It is not going… Read more »
In other news, Steve Bould is working triple time, he is listed three times on the Arsenal website: http://www.arsenal.com/staff
best celebration i have seen at the emirates for a long time!
Pure passion, it was as delightful as the goal itself.
I almost gave my dad a heart attack when we scored but that combined with tearing off my jacket and throwing it on the floor in ecstasy was totally worth it.
Dat Guy is back!
Indeed. That was wild and joyous.
After long time of injury, he instantly score, at injury time. That made it even more special.
I missed the celebration on the telly as I was involved in a celebration of my own around my front room. I’ve actually got carpet burns on my knees sliding across the carpet as if I’d just scored that goal! The missus went beserk at me.
dat guy!
Who woulda thought that a ManUre outcast, on his comeback from a 10 month injury layoff would be the man to snatch a win, with the last attempt of the game.
As soon as I saw Mesut standing over the ball I just felt something was gonna happen.
Can’t help but feel this is the beginning of something special.
Spuds are inconsequential. We’ll sort them out in due time.
Don’t Stop Believing Gunners.
Onwards to the title.
COYG!
Outcasts and/or players in the shadows from Real Madrid, Barca, ManU, Chelsea from a rag-tag title winning team.
Not to forget the unknown players from French, Spanish Leagues or from youth ranks.
Wait that’s the fairytale script meant for Leicester and even the Tots!
Why wouldn´t he jump into the crowd and let them feel his guns? Man must have put in some hours in the gym!
Great to have you back Welbz!
COYG!!!
So so happy for him.. I was thinking when he came on that it would do his confidence a world of good if he scores.. COYG!
I happen to peep in at le groan the other day and the guy who writes the blog, goes by the name of cuntro I think, was saying how we welcome back the unworldclass welbeck. He sounds like the biggest cunt since old cuntface McCunty took a group of cunts to cunt city for a pilgrimage of cunts.
We now fucking have options upfront… i love this guy
OOHHHHHHH DANNY BOOOYY!!!
Lets hope he does it at Old Trafford again too! Our run-in is tough, but no tougher than that of Spurs & they have to play The Arsenal! As for Leicester I think the break on cup weekend might be frustrating for them as they will miss the chance to bounce back right away & will instead have to stew on this for a week longer. For us I don’t think the cup distraction is the end of the world. I know we’re getting players back & are starting to build up momentum now, but down the years we’ve had… Read more »
DAT goal made me hug afew strangers at the pub.
Wele like Pele….you are funny blogs.
That’s ©ArsenalGent – Danielsan Arantes do Dat Guy Nascimento Santos Welvalho, or simply Welé – http://arseblog.com/2014/09/arsenal-gentlemans-weekly-review-36/
I love what Leicester are doing, great for the game, etc. but they can fuck right off. I’ve waited 10 years for another title. let’s go and win it now
Won’t ever forget that – I ended up on top of Olivier, Danny and Theo! Mental scenes!
Also you’ve become a part of my screensaver for the years to come!
Can you share the link/image pls? Can’t find it 🙁
Couple of weeks back I said the crowd at the Emirates was mute. What a fantastic atmosphere against Leicester. We truly were behind the team for 95 minutes. That’s what a championship winning crowd does. We need to keep that going in all home games.
Welbz is a great, down-to-earth guy and he couldn’t have announced his comeback in a more emphatic way!
Such passion after his header of a goal – he’s a true gunner now, our Danny boy!
Hope he can score more goals in the Cup this weekend woohoo~ 😀
Hopefully that will be a turning point in our season and Welbeck’s career. I reckon he will be important player for us for years to come.
Imagine being out injured all season, scoring the winner after 10 minutes in your first game back in the biggest game of the season so far.
And you you now have more goals already than last seasons super duper player of the season Hazard.
Life is good! Welè!
Hazard does have one!!
Not in the league he doesn’t. He does have a goal against the mighty MK Dons though. A penalty, may I add.
A few people have mentioned our tougher run in than Leicester but we seem to have more focus and determination against the big teams, so it could actually go in our favour!! I remember we dropped points against some dross before the man city game, then absolutely dominated man city!!
This current Arsenal squad is full of some of the most likeable players I can remember us having. I really like Welbeck. It’s great to have him back. Hard working, direct and an absolute nuisance to full backs. I really hope he plays in the derby and tears Danny Rose a new one, especially given the feud they had going last season. It’s never been so important to beat the tiny totts as it is this season. Could be the title decider. Looking at the run ins for the top four we definitely have the hardest fixtures but with players… Read more »
We need to mash those spuds at the lane!!!
Tater Tots…
I’d love to know what Mesut said to himself on the close up shot as he lined up his perfect free-kick?
.
…suck on my chocolate salty balls…
He prayed
I’m still buzzing, that goal, that celebration, and everyone staying behind after the game scarves in the air was a magical moment. I usually bomb out immediately but must have been in there a good ten minutes soaking it up and singing my heart out. Fantastic
Just came back home. Spent the last 24 hours in jail for fracas.
My anti-Arsenal neighbors complained about my celebrations.
So, what if you show that you care, at 100-120 decibels or not?
Our run-in aren’t as difficult as suggested. We may have the “easiest” home matches, thus Watford Norwich villa Swansea Palace and Westbrom . Easily winnables or? Away matches are quite difficult but wins against Everton Sunderland and Westharm isn’t asking too much. Also a win , draw and a lost against Sp*rs United and City isn’t out of reach based on how we have been doing against top teams this year. Just examine Leicester and Sp*rs and you will know the hell I’m talking. They have to play desperate relegation threatened teams away we only have Sunderland in that category.… Read more »
