Arsene Wenger was clearly unhappy with the goals that Arsenal conceded in the 2-0 defeat to Barcelona tonight.
He made reference to it more than once in his post-match interview with BT Sport which you can see below. It’s rare for him to be so scathing about his players, and you can see here that he’s seething.
In Arsene terms he lost his shit a bit there. I think I liked it.
This felt like a rant on one of those ArsenalFanTV videos only with Arsene in it.
Now can I say it AGAIN without but hurting anyone….
GO AND PREPARE FOR OLD TRAFFORD
He’s right in everything he’s said. The players need to stay focused at all times. Losing the Ox was a real problem tonight, but my biggest issue was I actually found our lack of pace to be the biggest issue in the second half, and that’s not something I tend to complain about.
Anyway, recover and trounce United on the weekend. COYG!
I know this isn’t the reasons we lost today, but when we bought Elneny, I was thinking “finally, we needed a backup for Coquelin, all we needed was someone better then Flamini, and Arsenal actually did the business and got it done.”
And here we are. Still bringing on Flamini.
Even when we all think Arsene has finally bought a defensive-first midfielder, he hasn’t really. Just frustrating.
Is it possible Wenger’s patience is hitting rock bottom with some players? It will be interesting to see how he and the team react for United.
I liked this interview. Good to see him take it like a man, and be more clear about things rather than beat around the bush and sugar coat everything. Well done Arsene. I like this Arsene.
He used this set up whenever we are underdogs and it works each time. I guess that 25 minute spell of dominance made our defence think they are playing Sunderland. And there was Ozil’s brother. Now time to realise that we cannot win the champions league, we are out. Focus on manure and beat the crap out the spuds, sort the hull problem and we’ll forget tonight
Good god almighty that man is class. Sure he frustrates us at times but we are all so lucky to have him
Can I like this multiple times?
These players keep getting defended in front of the press but deep down I’m sure Wenger himself admits some of them are shit. A player can improve the technical and physical aspects of his game but I wonder if some haven’t hit a ceiling in terms of football intelligence. How do you keep making the same mistakes? It’s not a lack of experience at this point, it might be the limited learning capacity of some players. I’m sure the boss is exasperated like most of us, but he did bring those players in.
I don’t think he was angry enough. I am sure behind closed doors, some players got what was coming to them, but ultimately he has to take some of the responsibility, Walcott was poor, and perhaps with hindsight, not the right substitution, as Cambell has a much better work ethic when it comes to tracking back, Flamini is too hotheaded for a game like this. These were his decisions. Of course, the players need to shoulder the blame, but Wenger needs to look at his decision making too. I still believe there are positives from this game though. Just need… Read more »
Talk about pot calling kettle black. Year after year, summer after summer, he refuses to buy players we need then expects the limited players we have to suddenly transform into Ronaldos, Xavis, Makeleles and Nestas. This is the same man that had an Almunia in goal for God knows how long when Lloris was available. We sat and watched athletico pick up Griesman and Jackson Martinez without a fight.
Just pick a team to beat manure please, you owe us that
Jackson Martinez…good one
Why are we naive year after year?
Is it just because players are shit? Coaches are shit? Combination of both? Just part of our footballing culture?
Good question. I used to think it’s the players not being good enough to carry out Wenger’s ideas/what he expects from them; but he’s the one that bought them, so the blame should lay on him.
This is the same guy that built the invincibles…not saying that team never made mistakes, but not like these guys.
the 07-08 and 10-11 teams played far better than this and weren’t as expensive as this team. Wenger needs to get his mojo back.
I miss the Wenger that is confident enough to tell you his team can go unbeaten.
Might just have something to do with the gnome of doom – Messi.
Flamini one pissin minute on the pitch ffs.
This is the best post game interview I’ve heard from Wenger in a while.
No mincing of words, I hope he rips into the players especially the forwards for missing the chances they did.
Lay it to them and maybe, just maybe players like Walcott will step up and start playing like a 140k pw player should.
Need to go to Manure and beat them. No 2 ways about it.
just concentrate on manure next. a 8-0 hammering of them would make us feel better..
sounds good, but who will score that goals ? big Q
Its hackneyed I know but a player for player comparison here: Cech better than der Stegen Bellerin (marginally?) better than Alves Metersacker or Pique interchageable Koscielny better than Mascherano Monreal (marginally?) better at defence than Alba Busquets over Coquelin Ramsey vs. Rakitic — probably divide opinion but I’d say relatively comparable. Ozil (marginally) better than Iniesta. Messi a million million million lightyears better than Oxlade-Chamberlain Suarez better than Giroud Neymar (marginally?) better than Sanchez For me the gulf in quality was not that big other than in attack where it was enormous. Everywhere else, I think we’re with them. A… Read more »
Ever since the players who Wenger inherited when he took over Arsenal left, he built the team to play a certain way. When they come up against a team that they have to change their way of play to beat or not loose, they can’t do it. When it comes to managers, Wenger is a one trick pony. Always has been, always will be. If Arsenal is to have success they need to move on in the manager area.
I hate how our attacking team is making me think if Vardy had those chances his kids would be playing with the match ball this morning during breakfast
Hard to watch.
You can see he knows his shit. And you can see how fucking let down he is. ESPECIALLY by that Flamini madness. Flamini threw Wenger under the bus with that. Andrew talked many times about how Flamini flirts with reds in extremely dangerous situations where we have the lead, or early on in the game. And he let Wenger and all of us down with that shit he did in that game.
flamini and arteta shld be allowed to leave at d end of d season
Leave arteta alone…. But Flamini can do one now
Flamini is embarrassing at this stage he was a decent squad player when we were vying for 4th two seasons ago. Hes not good enough to try and win the premiership or champions league. I bet every single arsenal fan groaned when he came on. He does his own thing, points around like hes in charge and usually is pointing at the guy he should be marking. I think Kos had a fantastic game one of the top central defenders out there but Mert is done at this level. He’s no longer good enough. His pace technical ability and passing… Read more »
Really hope Arsene does the right thing and plays Iwobi, Gibbs, Chambers, Campbell in the 2nd leg. Basically play the team that started vs Hull. We have less than 5% chance of getting something from the camp Nou. This competition is unfortunately over for us. We have a League to win and a FA cup to threepeat!
Lads, nothing to do with Flamini. Look at meteserackers position for the first goal. caught in his arse middle of pitch open counter. no numbers to defend. Second goal. he cushions the ball in the penalty box. Schoolboy stuff. time we need to move him on, and see can we spend 30 million on a good defender beside Kos. Hes going to cost us the league.
