Wenger reveals latest on Ox and Gabriel

Arsene Wenger has provided updates on injury hit Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gabriel ahead of Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester United.

The England man is definitely not going to make the trip, with the manager saying, “He has a scan today, he will not be available for Sunday.

Arsenal fear knee ligament damage and a lengthy absence, but let’s hope the news isn’t as bad as that.

Meanwhile, on Gabriel, Wenger said, “He is coming back into the squad tomorrow, so we will see how he responds to that, but the signs are positive. He might be available for Sunday.”

The Brazilian spoke earlier about his fitness and his hopes to return to action as soon as possible.

“I’m very happy with the training sessions at the end of last week,” he said, “and hope to continue with this work to be able to be at the manager’s disposal soon.

“I had been playing well for four or five consecutive games, being praised by everyone, so this injury took me by surprise. It made me sad, that’s why I returned to Brazil.

“But now I want to recover as quickly as possible to be able to play with the team as soon as I can.”

Moley the mole who lives in the hole

slightly (very) off topic – Pires has officially retired today. Robert finally met Blogs a couple of weeks back. coincidence?

Reality Check

Yeah Pires is moving to Ireland

TommyGun

Smart money says blogs has got Pires pregnant.

Goone's Farm

Too far..ish?

Bould's Eyeliner

Smarter money says Pires has got blogs pregnant.

PodB

At least one Arsenal man scored!

Mills

Superb

12 FA CUPS

I think blogs made an offer Bobby could not refuse..

Fabulous

It’s about time we find some bloody form. We’ve been playing so poorly since December it’s unbelievable. We’re definitely not winning the league if this keeps on. Let’s beat the shit out of United and hopefully go on a good run.

Avneet

We are due some kind of form. Sunday will be the beginning.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

You last sentence saved you votes down for pointing out we’ve been playing poorly. Some do not like truth. People were blaming Flamini and Per for their errors against Barcelona but this was a game for big players to show what they are made of. Ozil and Alexis should have been on fire. They are not playing to their levels lately.

Man Manny

If Arsene says Gabriel has a chance, then he is in the squad.
Sad about Ox; would have loved more games for him – there is an exciting player in there.
All in all, get the 3 points on sunday.
We are overdue a double on United and may not have a better chance – the team is in a bad shape and it is the best time to play them.
Here’s to three points, minimum of a two goal margin and a clean sheet to bpot.

moonie

There is no exciting player in there. We cannot win anything with players like Ox.

Little Mozart

I’m gutted about Ox. He seems to be a player that could really achieve greatness if he wasn’t plagued by injuries.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Certainly not ideal to get injured during a poor run of form. Hope it’s not too serious.

Any news as of when we’ll be getting some Santi back?

Avneet

By the way, Wilshere is back on tv which may suggest one of the two :
A- he has started walking or
B- he is expecting a child again ?

Moley the mole who lives in the hole

Or
C – his child has started walking?

Man Manny

What a clowndestine post…lol.

Bob Davis

I hope the Ox is ok. The challenge that he sustained his injury in could have been avoided by releasing the ball earlier. I wish they would watch the 03/04 season. The one touch, pass and move style was was brilliant.

George

And/or avoided by getting his head up, even for a moment. Really hope he’s OK, but he also really needs to work on his vision. Frustrating player ’cause he seems to have it all. Worth persevering with, but we still haven’t fully sorted our flank(s) have we.

Alex

Just a thought – if Gabriel was playing Tues that 1st goal might not have happened. Per’s recovery pace is non existent.

Mpls

It wasn’t Per’s recovery pace. He took himself out of the play committing to a slide tackle that missed. Even Bellerin Doesnt have enou speed to catch back up after something like that. It was bad decision making from a few players. Per overcommitted at the wrong time and the others ‘undercommitted’ when they had chances to shut it down.

AkaSuzakuDE

Pace wasn’t really an issue for that first goal. Bad positioning was.
Bellerin did not backtrack fast enough.
Coquelin was too deep in Barcelona’s half.
Per should not do man-to-man marking(, especially with Neymar being his opponent).
Koscielny should have tried to stop them with a cynical foul or else immediately backtrack.

Monreal and Cech were (obviously) also involved, but could not have done any better.

Riku

Coquelsincoquelan most guilty, how many times was Sergio busquets’ out of position. If bfg does not go tight on Neymar he can turn push ball past him and bfg gets s sure yellow or red card like the Costa incident

Edu's Braces

Why did he come back on the f**king pitch? AGAIN. This is seriously insane. Santi, Rosicky, Ramsey countless times, Wilshere too. It’s a cultural problem, admirable from the players but it’s completely unprofessional from the medical team. ‘av a ran abat there mate see ‘ow it feels’. It’s disgraceful.

Goone's Farm

Thomas had to stay or we’d be down to ten men. But yeah, otherwise it’s very strange to have that happen with what one expects is one of the best medical teams in club football.

Stillmatic

We’re not really. We’re not even the top 5-6 in England (City, Chelsea, United, Spurs and Liverpool are well known to be better). Seriously, to get a grade 1 for an Academy, one of the areas that all clubs get graded on is their medical and sports science support (based on an audit of all things injury-history related). From what I know, even West Ham scored better than us in that area, and their first team facilities are portacabins. Granted we’ve recently made investment into this area, but that won’t begin to bear fruit till the start of next season… Read more »

I LIKE SHARKS

Festa

Seriously not bothered about Oxlade. Feel bad for the guy and it’s another hurdle he has to overcome but his performances this season have been woeful. This will at least force a change.

realseriousgooner

He went back to Brazil because he was SAD?? If only my boss was so sympathetic. COYG

Man Manny

What a clowndestine post…lol.

Paul

Ox got injured because of a poor touch when sprinting forward, sadly that somes him up!

Surrey Gooner

I don’t know how true this is but it does seem his injuries are due to him over committing to make up for a mistake he’s made.

Alexstratz

Time for Theo Walcott to step the fuck up.

jtown gunner

I am sick n tyred of lack of football sense from ox,he is just running like a headless chicken,i thnk is time to either sent him on loan or to sell him permanently.
