Mesut Ozil has hit back at media reports which suggested he would leave the club if Arsene Wenger remained in charge for next season.
The Sun wrote that such a scenario would play out, but suggested that the German international could join Sevilla or even Valencia, rather than one of the big boys in La Liga, rather undermining themselves along the way.
It smacked of sensationalist nonsense, and when Ozil Tweeted earlier, it was to give his backing to Wenger and put the story back in its box.
“Have seen the media reports today,” he said. “Arsène Wenger was a big reason for me joining Arsenal – this hasn’t changed!”
Have seen the media reports today. Arsène Wenger was a big reason for me joining Arsenal – this hasn’t changed! #Respect #AFC

Given that things are a bit tetchy at the moment you could probably link him with a summer move to Twatwanker FC, currently bottom of the Skidmark Conference, and people would believe it.
Nice to see some players finally backing him after the past fortnight of former players slating him. COYG.
If you don’t have Arsenal news confirmed by arsenal.com, the BBC or Arseblog News ignore it, 99% it is a waste of time.
it’s always during the Interlull that these lame rumours come out…
The worst possible “do not click on this shit website” usually likes commas within its headline.
something like this.
‘Ozil, Superstar wants out, Midfielder wants to sign, Chilean out?’
Humdrum!
As nice as the tweet is, it still worries me that he hasn’t signed his contract extension and he will be approaching his final 2 years this summer.
Plus his best friend is Flamini who would advise him to run his contract down to the end to get a pay rise.
Twatwanker FC are above us at the moment so you never know..
Well played sir.
Retweeted and liked the shit out of that tweet. Good man, Mesut.
Heh, wasn’t aware that the Sun had linked Sevilla and Valencia. I sure hope Mesut can manage to resist the lure of being coached by Phil Neville and the potential Europa League place Sevilla are fighting for.
Not to forget the fulfilung sense of satisfaction of playing in the worst Valencia side in years.
Even though I never really thought he would leave, words cannot describe the joy and relief that has just come over me.
Now hopefully Alexis follows Mesut’s example.
Had the same thoughts. His body language does seem off these last few months, but to be fair I would be too if I create as many chances a game and nobody finishing it off, which if they did would keep us in a shout for the title, which I guess makes him all the more pissed off. *sigh* For fucks sake if we only got in a decent striker in the off season.
My take is Alexis’ body language is about his own performances. He doesn’t seem to be at anyone else. That in itself can be a problem too, but I’m not reading too much into it. He expects a lot of himself as any top level player does. My uneducated guess says he takes a big chunk of personal responsibility for our form. He’s used to being important with the Chilean side as well.
It should not be underestimated how important Wenger is to the players we have and want to keep at the club. I am not saying there would be an exodus if he left as they may feel the same about a different manager coming in but it is another reason to be careful what we wish for on the Wenger front. I hope he sees out his contract and then we shall see what happens. We need to keep Ozil at the club he is immense.
Couldn’t agree more. To quote Usmanov lol, Wenger has sacrificed his best years as a manager for the transitional period of our club. Perhaps these last few years will be looked upon more positively once he has gone, hopefully because they were a stepping stone to further success rather than because we have capitulated under crap successors. My main worry is that when the time comes I hope he announces that he’ll be leaving as Fergie did, late in the season as Man City & Valencia are showing that when it is known that your manager is only there until… Read more »

Because the media has gone into full-on, balls to the wall, interlull rumor-mongering, I will share a fail-safe lemon square recipe. Ingredients: 1 cup Gold Medal all purpose flour 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1/4 cup powdered sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel, if desired 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 eggs Powdered sugar Directions: 1. Heat oven to 350ºF. 2. Mix flour, butter and powdered sugar. Press in ungreased square pan, 8x8x2 or 9x9x2 inches, building up 1/2-inch edges. 3. Bake crust 20 minutes. 4. Beat granulated sugar,… Read more »
I approve of this, but try as I might, the cups thing baffles me all the time.
We’ve done alright with the cups until recently.
I think, but I’m not sure, that cups is just a way of getting an even amount of something, no? So, within reason, it doesn’t exactly matter what size the cup is you;re using, just that you use the same one for all the ingredients. It’s so you can bake without scales
It would be true if it weren’t for the things that used spoons as measurements. The spoon size is uneffected by a change in cup size. So you may have too much or too little baking soda relative to flour and sugar for example.
Wait, is that American cups or British and is the flour measure for high or low altitudes, what if my sugar is ungranulated?
Great to see him step in and shoot down those rumors, but it’s a shame in this day and age how easy it is for people to put garbage out there on one site and then it’s picked up across 100’s of sites.
To be fair to Twatwanker FC, they do have pretty sweet kits this year.
Not playing badly either considering their current league position.
Changing the subject. If Ozil left I’d be heartbroken. I think I could get over almost anyone leaving except him.
Troll?
Fuck that noise… There is nothing “sweet” about that lot.
Utter horseshit from the moment I read this. Ozil will end his peak years with Arsenal and return to Schalke in his thirties. He is adored by us gooners and this is what drives him to succeed.
“…so if both clubs come calling you could say that Granit might be caught between a rock and a hard place…”
You COULD say that, Blogs, but you won’t stoop so low. Will you?
Oh…
You’re goddam right I will
I love how he (or whatever media handler it was) actually put the accent over the e in Arsene. I wonder if he gets annoyed by us all ignoring the umlat too?
Great blog today Arse. As mentioned, there are no guarantees. The critical mistake in thinking many are making is believing that it will only get better if/when we change Wenger for someone-else. It could. But it could also conversely get a whole lot worse. See United at the moment with their current top 4 aspirations. See Liverpool with their ‘soccer genius’ Klopp in charge and really no better in positioning. Do we really have the patience either to wait another trophiless season or worse because the team is in transition as we are told by media at tedium Liverpool have… Read more »
Not working today?
Blogs, is there nothing in the comment policy about comments this long?
The man at the top knows what he’s doing

Santori, I fucking love your posts. You and I always share similar mindset. I’m against sacking Wenger for the sake of change. And the ever vocal WOB is worrying me. It isn’t about Arsene FC I guarantee you that. But what’s best for Arsenal ATM is for him to stay. Yes, the gaffer does make mistakes but so does all other managers, yet because he belongs to our club, we scrutinize him more than other managers. Our financial ability may have improved, but we are dwarfed by other oil riched clubs or mega clubs. Wenger is not allowed to make… Read more »
Sorry fella but that’s just words for the sake of words
You don’t need to spend crazy amounts of money in order to be successful or to right the wrongs that there clearly are in our team and squad
As a simple question. Goalkeepers. Was alumnia the best there was?
You do realise he can’t go on forever don’t you?
Zyrth, I guess those giving you and Santori thumbs down are new and probably youthful who do not understand the Arsenal history.
I thumbed down because I don’t want to read a comment that’s longer than the blog
Excellent post, Arsene.
What a wicked piece of analysis to which I totally concur!
Change for change’s sake is not change, it’s panic.
What about change for winning the title?
That moment, when you see the length of the post and decide to read it, or not, depending on the thumbs, and then thinking “what thumbs combo do I need to read it or not?”!
Tricky…:-)
Well, that’s ten minutes of my life I won’t get back. 🙂
Thats my novel read for the year now.
I find most of the points put forward are in my line of thinking as well.
Good job!
Klopp is only good for posing with his tongue hanging out.
Filibustered!
I love Wenger and i fully agree with Santori. When i look at the control Wenger has over this club i think it’s good for achieving stability and consistency in results. But, this current setup is not driving us towards our maximum potential. Wenger needs someone like David Dein to be able to completley focus on the footballing side of the club. Then perhaps he wouldn’t be working as hard as he claims to be working now. Wengers’ POV is such that he always get the big things right. But, it’s the little details that make a good footballing side… Read more »
I agree. The current demand of change for change’s sake is stupid. City and Chelsea may have had some exciting times and trophy wins, but what legacy have they built? What enjoyment do their fans have for supporting a team which is just bought to win trophies? Chelski are maligned by all. I enjoy the fact we develop our players, some our homegrown, some our extremely talented foreign imports, but it is a team we should be supporting. Arsenal need to stick to the Arsenal way – respect the club culture. We should have done better this season, no doubt… Read more »
That’s a fantastic post, Santori, one that deserves to be an article on the main page of Arseblog. I agree with all of it.
Ozil departure?
The media have some Arsenal fans around their finger.
They’d love to paint doom and gloom with us and instigate the fan base.
Some fans are so gullible that they are prey to this and contribute to making things worse for us.
Umlaut, not umlat.
Twatwanker Fc! lols, Blogs you are the funniest. COYG
The world and his dog is against Wenger atm.
The only thing that makes me sad is not seeing more of Mesut and Mozart playing together.
Bottom of the league? are they not second?
So if Arsene goes, does that mean Ozil would want out. Possibly Sanchez too as well as Kos?
For all the people who want Wenger out, this could be the collateral damage involved.
“I’d rather we finish 8th blah Naha blah blah just to force the blah fucking blah to blah because anything is better than Groundblah blah!’
mesut fücking öezil
Very pleased to read that. As much as I feel Arsene failed this year, the only club in top 5 divisions in Europe who didn’t buy an outfield player, the lack of respect from some sickens me. The league was there to win and Arsene failed big time. I wouldn’t mind him stepping down but he deserves respect.
A quick question, we didn’t buy outfield players but the teams that ended last season above us did buy outfield players…. How’s that worked out for them?
Im pretty sure TwatWanker F.C is currently in second place just infront of Arsenal F.C
No, that’s Shite FC.
I’m pretty sure Twatwanker FC is not actually supposed to represent that lot, but rather an entirely fictional entity. But the names are easily confused!
I don’t think you understand… He’s Arsene Wenger’s man!
Not sure about the next line but it sure does rhyme.
Love Ozil, hope Wenger gets him that dream striker or make one out of the ones we currently have
As an active social media user hw had to nip it in the butt. wouldn’t have expected anything less
Doesn’t mean he staying doesn’t mean he’s going. But if a bayern for example go big for him then he’s gone
Honestly, guys, Mesut didn’t say he’ll stay next season. He just said he came for Wenger and still supports him. He can have respect and leave though…
I won’t be convinced of anything until he pens a new deal. Unlike Arsenal stars of previous generations I don’t imagine the “if the manager goes I go” loyalty is there with our current stars, mostly because they just wouldn’t have the same attachment as Cesc (claimed to have at least) because they didn’t grow up with the club.
Well i could counsel a player of his class to leave if hes creating so much only for no one to be their to finish them off. Were all chances created by this dude scored, we Possibly will be talking of a record number of assists. I wouldnt blame him at all if he leaves
Off topic but the first time Blogs announced that himself and James would be doing the Arsecast Extra on Mondays I honestly didn’t see the need for it and almost thought he was milking it but boy has it livened my day at work on many an occasion.
All I can say is if this continues you better be prepared to hire a brother after they might have lost their job from laughing out loud at work for no perceived reason by everyone!
“Would you like to fuck my pussy tonight?”?! So unprepared I almost died!!
Normally during the interlull there is very little interesting re arsenal interviews and news. Great interview on newstalk 106 off the ball show (Irish radio) tonight. Munu pettit what a quality man. Great view on AW also. Get it on podcast lads it’s worth it.
Heard it Hank. Absolutely brilliant.
I dislike interlulls….
That is refreshing, don’t wanna lose me some Ozil (Damn the lack of Umlaut on ma Keyboard).
No ..zil !
Its good to hear ozil corrected this news some media rang out of he wanting wenger to resign or he will leave i see arsene say let us see how the club progress until the end of the season rightly so although the gunners had tough games and the win v everton at goodison was a result ozil got injured he will miss friendly v england and as seeing mesuts assisting very impressive
