Wenger confirms Ramsey injury blow

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey will be absent for at least four weeks after picking up a thigh injury in midweek.

Speaking at his press conference this afternoon, the Arsenal manager denied the Welshman would miss the rest of the season, and sounded more optimistic than some of the reports doing the rounds.

“At the moment his clinical signs are quite positive,”he said.

“You could say at the start 4 weeks. Its a bit worse than what I first thought. I just thought it was precautionary and that he’d be available for Sunday.”

So that’s a minimum of four weeks but we’ll remain somewhat cautious on this one.

It’s a blow for the team and for Ramsey whose goal against Sp*rs was the kind of individual improvisation this team has been lacking throughout the season. His form has been poor, but then he’s not alone there, and maybe this would have helped spark him back into life.

Fingers crossed he can recover quickly, and play some part between now and the end of the season.

Get well soon Ramsey. Step forward Elneny..

Goon

I know el neny would be the best replacement here but I’d like to see iwobi given more game time

Man Manny

Get well soon lad; I hope and pray that when you return, you will be joining in a title fight.

spinner

Stop being deluded.

Will you also hope and pray that when he returns we are Champions League quarter finals?

J Bird

This is awful news. I think he would’ve done a job for us on the right wing in the big games.

O2ba

Usual Arsenal luck then. 🙁

David

Is it luck? Sending on a guy who’s renowned for picking up cold niggles with minimal warmup when there are alternatives available (ie. The Jeff). In a cup game, one-nil up during the first season in ages where a real title challenge is seeming possible. Just as he had found some form and it seemed we had found the right combination up front for the run-in. I’m bleak and I hope I’m over-reacting.

Bob Davis

I hope he has a speedy recovery and be back for the important run-in.

We’ve got decent backup as options.

Heroldg

Wait till we play with Flam and Mcguane in midfield away at Westham then you’ll know our ‘options’ are falling like flies.

cern

but if it would really be just 4 weeks, he would miss only one big game, everton away, as there is 2 weeks international break in the end of march, and he would be back for west ham away. other games we should cope wihtout him. but what are the chances for that, eh.

SB

The club seems to have done all they could to improve our injury record.

Now we seem to down to hope – so many times Wenger and Arseblog/News Hound “hopefully it’s not as bad” but it has transpired into “as bad”.

One thing though, we are a bit better prepared to deal with some of these injuries – Campbell, Elneny, Chambers who have done well when called upon.

Heroldg

Cazorla better not banjax his own chances of a return now.

But a welcomed break from me for the Welshman.

Paul

Oh dear…

Mpls

That’s just shit.

Trezy

We need wilshere back as soon as possible. Wilshere and Santi have got to be back in 2 weeks.
Looked at the table and noticed that 4th place is at risk.

Paul

Hmmmm……are you a new supporter?

Bambooney

I still can see us winning the league even without Ramsey. It’s only Leicester who I can see being consistent until the end and the laughing stock spuds.

bims lay

I think spuds will pull a ‘spuds’, as usual, and end up behind us on the league table at the end of the season. I think leiccster will falter. its one thing playing with complete abandonment and zero pressure as a wild card with nothing to lose. It’s a different ball game, when you are playing your matches as the clear favourite to win the league. ask Arsenal!…..Leicester are the clear favourites now, and the difference is, earlier in the season as an underdog, they were able to play under the radar and maybe win matches they should have lost,… Read more »

And if Leicester are consistent as you say then i think they win the league and not us. Might be worth considering

spinner

To catch Leicester from this position, we need to win all our games and hope Leicester lose 3 games (even though they have only lost 3 all season).
Let’s be realistic, it’s not gonna happen.

Gooneron

You are contradicting yourself with that statement. If you see Leicester being consistent till the end of the seasob then there is no way we will win the league

Bambooney

Can’t*

Paul

I like “seasob”

A-train

Not sure how Ramsey gets so much stick. About our only player who’s keeping things ticking right now and being asked to play in multiple positions/roles. Think he’s been about our 3rd best player all year (behind Cech/Ozil). Hope he gets back soon, maybe for West Ham then if it’s 4 weeks…and hopefully Santi & Jack make a return around the same time.

Tayana Chirambo

Get well soon Boy

Naija Gunner

Get well soon Rambo,” I call on Elneny your lordship”

Gervinho

Fuuuuuccck!!! I love Campbell as much as the next guy but Ramsey does the job for us on the right side. His running is intelligent and he works so, so hard. If you think back to our success at the end of last season, we continuously had Ramsey on the right. Elneny freed the central position for that to become a reality. Campbell can do the job well, but it’s a big loss. I’d like to see a front 3 of Welbeck, Giroud, and Campbell, with Walcott trying to get a spot. COYG, we can still catch Leicester. They will… Read more »

Paul

I have confidence in Campbell.

David

Wenger can’t take arsenal anywhere unless new players are asigned. U can’t rely on injury prominent players like Ramsey and u expect to win titles
