Arsenal 2-0 West Brom – player ratings

It doesn’t solve all our problems or anything, but we got two good goals from Alexis Sanchez and it’s just nice to win. I prefer when we do this.

Here’s how the players rated tonight.

3pts. Job well done.
Would love some more goals mind..

someone's something

Campbell is so way ahead of Walcott but because of some degenerate home-grown rule he’ll always be behind him in priority.

There will be no ending to the depth of pure and untampered hatred and hostility I will have towards this pathetic excuse of a rule if Campbell is sold of while Walcott stays during the summer.

mark

Almost forgot Campbell was still part of the squad. Good to see him again, def needs to be in front of Walcott in the pecking order.

TexasGooner

I’m with you buddy.

Campbell is a proper footballer. Today was great evidence. Despite the fact that he was on the pitch for just a few minutes, he lifted the team and injected excitement to his teammates and fans. He immediately started hustling, combining with teammates with delicious one-twos, assisting, shooting, tracking back, etc… I can’t say the same thing about Walcott.

Serpent

I totally agree. You could see the difference in pace from the first moment he was on. Although Walcott was better this time around than against Palace too…

Campbell has been a quiet professional this spring. He’s played well when given the odd chance and haven’t complained in the press about lost opportunities. A good player to have in the squad. Too bad he didn’t score in his first involved move of play.

Runkeball

I wonder why he keeps featuring so sparingly in the squad. He’s clearly very good and things tend to happen whenever he comes on. Why does he not get more time on the pitch?

2015-2016 = the year we've been waiting for

Monreal should be in the PFA team of the year. Ozil too.

Poor Giroud, Ben Foster has a massive face.

Gary Baldy

It’ll be even bigger when he wakes up tomorrow morning . . . and redder !

Ollie deserved a goal for his 2nd half effort ! He must be wondering what he has to do to score !

Dan Hunter

How about not smashing it straight at the keeper?

Little Mozart

Still have a way to go to rid the nervous atmosphere at our home games, but two goals and a clean sheet are always welcome. My bonus rating has to go to Alexis for scoring two superb goals to take my mind off of the loss of a personal hero today.

Now, let’s end this season on the highest point we can.

Ranieri's pene pene

Leicester winning their next four games is the current limit of my ambition!

Jacob

Thought RamNenny (yeah?) looked very promising. If El Nenny can do what Arteta did to counter balance Ramsey in the 13/14 season, with slightly more mobility and more effective defensive work, then we might see Ramsey get properly back to his best. It’s worth remembering that for half of that season the only better play in the league was Suarez. Would love to see us get the best out of him again.

thebetterJFK

THIS!!!! Elneny should be more then capable of being a more mobile Arteta in our squad. He reads the game well defensively which Arteta did extremely well and he distributes the ball quickly and effectively. I definitely think Ramsey could get back to his best once they’ve had some matches together. Although at this point it’s just to get them ready for next season 🙁

Tarquin Farquar

Ramsey was never as good as made out and never as bad made out either. He plays a decent game against a really poor west brom and the myth is reborn

MC1892

I know it’s easy to forget how good some of these players can be when they’re playing like total idiots but that’s just not true. Perhaps it was just a one off, and yeah we may never see that form again, but that season, when fit, Ramsey was absolutely unbelievable. He was for about four months (and this isn’t sensationalist) the best midfielder in Europe. Some of the goals he scored, passes he made and general games he had were utterly spectacular.

Nic

The problem is he always tries to pick up where he left off that season but when you aren’t on top form those things just don’t come off. When players have been out of the squad they want to make an impression, Ramsey tries to back-heel and Wilshere tries to dribble through 3 players at once. Wenger has spoken about needing to simplify his game at times. Focussing on completing passes and tackles until you find form ect.

occam's hatchet

Welcome back to the starting 11, Per. We’ve missed you.

Runkeball

Aye! The lanky streak of German piss did alright yesterday. Welcome back BFG!

Carlos

Campbell was electric. Quick with the ball, incisive passing, fantastic movement off the ball. Dangerous.

I don’t understand his lack of playing time at all.

Carlsenal

Per, Aaron and Alexis was the difference today, imo. Thought Ramsey had a ‘perfect’ match – he did nothing wrong, and did valuable work at both ends of the pitch, with that tackle in our own box the icing of the night. If we could make Elneny and Ramsey work well together defensively, that might give good competition to Francis.

Per was calm, won headers and did generally well, as Per usually do. Never forget how much we really love our big German!

Alexstratz

So do we sub in Walcott every match because of his image rights that we own? Do we get money every time he features on the pitch? Genuine question.

spinner

Good question but I’ve got no idea.
Perhaps Wenger wants to get at least 5 minutes work out of him, for the £140k the club will be transferring to his bank account at the end of the week.

Runkeball

He made an excellent run when the ball went wide and stopped it inches away from the side line and hoofed it back into the box where someone (I forget who) fluffed it. Hardly enough to warrant 140 grand a week but none the less useful. Once his contract is up he could be kept on as a sub who offers vital pace in the last 20 minutes of a game but, BUT, on a lot less money. Something more in line with what they pay Elnenny or Gabriel at the moment would suffice. Either that or he can fuck… Read more »

Gary Baldy

” Ramsey played with discipline and it made a difference. ” I am not a big Ramsey fan for his performances this season but I really liked him today. I wish he would do it more often. I also wish Wenger thought more of Campbell and he would have been the right man to bring on for Iwobi on Sunday. I hope we keep him in the summer as he is an excellent squad player if not an absolute starter. I agree that per is better than some of us would have you believe. Alexis was as dynamic as I’ve… Read more »

Just saying we could be losing 1:2 after the terrible handball and a header you all might remember.. yes we won and I know…

Pitch

… and if my grandmother had balls she’d be my grandfather.

AusDrexler

Could as easily been up 5-0 too if Ozils balls were an inch wider…….er. ya know what I mean!

2G_Gunner

I just feel so much calmer when Per & Kos are at the back…

COYG1001

Excited about the Elneny / Ramsey pairing, but it’s early and it was weak opposition. Very much liked (am optimistic) about the Elneny Arteta comparison made above.

Alexis was back on song, Ozil can’t catch a break (or an assist) and Per was strong.

A much needed good result, improved performance and hints at a re-emerging Arsenal identity. Fluid, attacking and capable of playing defense and springing the counter. Again, weak opposition, but something to build on.

Stewart Robson's therapist

Weak opposition? Arguably. They certainly offered very little last night. But I never take victory for granted against a Tony Pulis team.

Crash Fistfight

I don’t think Pulis has gained a single point at the Emirates. I could be wrong though.

If I am, it’s not far off being correct.

Kosta

Gave Ozil a 10 rating just because of that description haha

Joblow

Everybody Played well in particular Sanchez (obviously) and Bellerin. Felt sorry for Giroud as he did not get any service of real quality but still his quality in terms of build-up and creating chances was on show. Lots of people give Ramsey stick but he is one of our more offensive players and makes more incisive moves than most. Love Elneny’s movement off and on the ball. Iwobi had an aggressive but many poor decisions. I am still impressed with his trap and forward turning of the ball. If Ramsey adds that to his game he will be a monster.… Read more »

Wheres that Sanchez been the last couple of weeks?? Finally looked back to his best again today, really assured in what he was trying to do rather than indecisive as he has been at times since his injury. Elneny looked good again and I actually thought Ramsey had his best game ive seen for a while, also our defence seems so much calmer with Per in their rather than wild eyed Gabriel who makes me nervous every time hes near the ball. Walcott also managed not to embarrass himself in his short time on the pitch but seeing the impact… Read more »

This team is crying out for a real winger who plays from wide rather than getting trapped in the middle with every other player on the pitch. Maybe then the full backs can hang back a little and defend occasionally. Campbell is by far the best we have as Walcott is no winger (10 years after he joined we still have no idea what he really is -inside forward?). Maybe Joel can do it or perhaps Gnabry rediscovers his promise, but we probably need to go in to the market and get someone who can pull packed defences around because… Read more »

There was an interview on here recently where he talked about not really trusting his body for a long while after his injury. I think he’s finally feeling comfortable with his movement and sprints now and it’s showing. We often forget about the psychological aspects of recovering from an injury, especially a muscle one. Takes awhile to trust yourself again

Dawn

Harsh score for Giroud. He had input for both goals and had one disallowed! He got the recognition for the second half but still got only 6’5! Cech ‘had nothing to do’ but still got 7? I just hope Giroud doesnt look at the ratings!

AusDrexler

Monreal is my player of the season. He has been so consistently good.

Stewart Robson's therapist

“Worst left-back in the league,” according to the Tuesday Club boys. I was livid when I heard it because I absolutely agree with you, Nacho rarely puts a foot wrong.

ClockEndRider

Alan Davies flip flops like the weak minded media luvvie he is. 3 years ago he was telling us that David Moyes should be chosen as manager.
With searing insight like that, I don’t think fairground fortune tellers have anthing to worry about just yet.

rmpauden

Leroy Sane at Schalke chris66, my dream signing for this summer, blows Reus away imo

Stewart Robson's therapist

Good player. However, I think Griezmann wipes the floor with both.

Conchetumadre

Thanks Alexis.

Stewart Robson's therapist

Delighted to see Per and Aaron both play so well. Two players who have copped a lot of flak this season – unnecessarily so in some respects, if you ask me.

CechMate

It was a good game but we were lucky (finally) on a couple of occasions – normally those moments go against us, frustratingly so. Sanchez looks like he’s getting back to his best, but we still need our forwards to start scoring again. Giroud’s hold up play in 2nd half was superb, El Neny’s mobility is an asset as he gives options for people to wriggle out of tight situations. Ramsey looks good again but i feel he needs to pass a touch early and that would make him deadly, Bellerin needs to work on his shooting & crossing accuracy… Read more »

Is it me or did the midfield resemble an Arteta-Ramsey feel to it? 1 that worked out very well for us at 1 point.

Tarquin Farquar

You are aware we finished 4th I think that year and conceded 6 against city 5 against Liverpool and 6 against Chelsea so let’s not go into fantasy

Stewart Robson's therapist

In turn, are you aware that the Arteta-Ramsey pairing didn’t play in any of the three games you mentioned?

Sampedro

Comment: sincerely speaking I am so impressed with Elneny he recycles the ball excellently and I have discovered that Ramsey plays better with a partner like that as in the case of Arteta but Elneny is an improvement on Arteta cos he is more mobile nd has a bigger frame nd won’t be bullied causing us to concede 6 goals like the days of arteta, the midfield was fluent like the Arsenal I use to love, for Iwobi he is great nd exciting talent but we must not forget he is still raw. Campbell is a very good nd tidy… Read more »

Don’t know how much I agree with the defensive ratings. Even though I feel that Mertesacker is a massive upgrade to Gabriel, he still looked a bit unaware at some of the West Brom set pieces. The header that went straight at the cross bar was Mertesacker’s lack of marking. I feel that this game could have just as easily slipped out of our hands if West Brom just had been a little more ruthless with their chances. However, attacking-wise this game was much better than the previous ones. Also agree with others here that Campbell is such an upgrade… Read more »

Empty stadium!! Keep those fans out with their negative sound effects!!

Andrés

Stop hugging and kissing each other. The reality is that Watford was a poor poor opponent to be defeated.
