Bellerin included in PFA Team of the Year

Hector Bellerin’s fine season has been capped off with inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year.

The 21-year-old broke into Arsene Wenger’s starting lineup last season and hasn’t looked back, being voted the Premier League’s best right-back by his peers.

This campaign the Spaniard has started 40 games for Arsenal, scoring once. Only Mesut Ozil has played from the start more often and even the German international can’t match his young teammate’s 32 starts in the league.

Inclusion in the Team of the Year comes as a welcome bonus for Bellerin who was overlooked for the PFA Young Player of the Year award; a gong that is predominantly won by  attacking players.

Bellerin is the only Gunner to be included in the Team of the Year. Despite being nominated for the Player of the Year award, Mesut Ozil misses out on a midfield berth with Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante joining Sp*rs’ Delli Alli and West Ham’s Dimitri Payet preferred.

The PFA, which had planned to reveal the Team of the Year on Sunday at its awards dinner, was forced to release the information yesterday after a leak on social media.

I just can’t seem to get my head round why we have good defenders but still can’t defend properly. Maybe we just fuck up at the only times we shouldn’t. But I guess this season the blame goes mainly to the attacking players for those displays against Southampton and Stoke (to name a few).

Goonerpanda

Fuck it. I’m going to take the easy way out and blame Wenger.

It’s just as ArsenalColumn has said multiple times; Arsenal are a poor defensive team with very good defenders. Pretty much like the rest of our team really. We have very good players playing in a relatively poor system. Also, defending is not just down to the defenders. The whole team needs to do it. As for Southampton, that was just pure crap on top of a shitshow on top of Arsenal being fatigued and not as good. Some kid scored a worldie that most people will never see again, and then Shane Long got two decisions called his way that… Read more »

Not going to post any negativity here, not the place for it!
Well Done Hector Bellerin! , and Hard Luck to Mesut Ozil. Midfield was tough to pick this season.

Well done Bellerin, we needed some positive news

Little Swede In The Number 14 Shirt

Nice news but what about Nacho? Far more consistent.

Thierry Bergkamp

Than Danny Rose?

Crash Fistfight

Yeah, but Danny Rose is a fouling, diving, injury-feigning, ref-harassing little cunt.

Miguel

By a mile. Rose is nothing more than solid.

Highberry

A Rose by any other name……would still be a shithead

gunnerfan ov palace

Well done hector bellerin you have impressed in alot of games even smashed in gd goals and assisted, defended and covered well watch ya ratings also in these dreamteam players leaques coyg gd goals alexis and gd cover team

Le Jim

Well in to young Hector <3

But on another note, it's a fucking disgrace that Mesut isn't in the team – by far and away the most assists, and a decent amount of goals. Seen some twats saying that the award isn't based off half a season, but he's been playing well throughout, regardless of the profligacy of our strikers. And what about Payet, who missed three months through injury?

Little Sp*rs wanker is only in there as well because he's the new English darling.

Mootilated

I sent an email to F365 this morning expressing my view and got rather lambasted, people telling me that a season doesn’t end in December. Which is ironic when you think about it. Does that mean that a player who gets 9 assists spread out over an entire season contributes more to one who gets 18 while the team and the strikers in front of him are on form? Bleurgh… Horseshit.

As much as I would have loved ozil to be named in the team, we all know we have the best playmaker in the league.

Ex-Priest Tobin

We really don’t actually. He’s a coward in front of goal and still doesn’t impose himself on games sufficiently. Also a bit of a lightweight in defence. Waste of money for the most part.

Jagger

*world.

Good-Bloke

Whatever.

There

Perhaps, it’s the strikers good form earlier on that made Ozil look better than what he is?

I don’t think he deserves to be in the XI…

assistantref

He has created the most chances and best chances of any player in Europe. That our forwards suck at finishing them isn’t his fault.

If he played for any other top team – i.e. one with forwards who can finish at better than 11% – he’d have 30 assists by now.

U

Imagine Ozil in a team with Leicesters finishing %. They have 19% which is crazy! A world class striker was needed or someone like alexis who can pitch in with decent amount of goals. Instead Wenger signed no outfield players and we have Walcott who eating up 140k a week
