Bolton defender left out as Arsenal rumours intensify

Word on the street is that Arsenal are interested in Bolton defender Rob Holding.

The 20 year old is a HOT PROSPECT in the world of defending and despite the Trotters relegation from the Championship was voted their player of the year for 2015-16. This is probably because he had a lot to do.

Over the last few days the rumour mill has gone into overdrive, suggesting that Arsenal keen to bring him to North London, and the fact he was left out of the side yesterday has added fuel to that fire.

Bolton’s caretaker boss Jimmy Phillips has revealed that he instructed not to pick Holding for yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham.

“I was asked by the board of directors not to play him yesterday,” he told The Bolton News – the third most reliable source of news in the Bolton area.

“He was in the line-up on Friday morning but that’s as much as I know. It would appear some clubs are interested in him somewhere down the line.

“I think the wheels are still in motion on that one and it’ll be a few days before we get an outcome.”

So there you go. We’re giving this one a 5 poo rating because it’s very early on a Sunday morning and the beers haven’t worn off yet.

never heard of him but he’s probably the next Tony Adams

Kampala gooner

If his name is anything to go by then may we have something on our hands

Jeff

We’re Holding something?

Ricardo

Yes Jeff where have you been? With Coquelin in the lineup ahead of him, and I would agree with Kampala Gooner.

Although, I would prefer Arsenal “Holding” on to a lead for once., instead of anything sleazy to with “Holding Coq”.

Too Drunk To Be Offside

If he is good sign him by all means, but FOR ONCE can the club focus on signing Wonder MEN instead … is that too much to hope for?

GiddyforZelalem

Arsenal’s signings’ age last three seasons: Cech: 33. Elneny: 23. Sanchez 26. Ozil 25. Debuchy 29. Gabriel 25. Ospina 26.

Gareth

I reckon he could make the holding role his own.

Mesut Aussie

Oh dear the rumour window is being squeezed open again… This is when I always tell my self to not click on the bait…. Have I ever listened yet… Not a bloody chance.

Don Cazorleone

never heard of him, but we should probably make him captain and ship him off to the Euros

Jordan

Isn’t Calum Chambers the resident HOT PROSPECT around these parts? Things could get a little testy if we get another one…

coquelin's codpiece

Calum is soooooo last season….

Naz

It’s all about the Holding Chambers

dpro

Where’s Alexis?

Stewart Robson's therapist

Given how many of this season’s top performers (Vardy, Alli, Mahrez, etc.) have emerged from the lower leagues around Europe, I refuse to be snobbish about players like this.

I’m not claiming that Rob Holding will be the next Tony Adams. I’m saying I believe in innocent till proven guilty. If Holding comes to Arsenal, fans should give him the same chance to prove himself that they would give to a Griezmann or a Pogba. Those who write him off just because of where he came from are being unfair and, frankly, a little bit immature.

Football News

If Jimmy Phillips has admitted it then it must be a lower ‘poo rating’, shouldn’t it

Heroldg

Add him to a least of raw talents in Gabriel Calum Chambers and an ageing Mertesacker I can’t see us not winning the league next season!

TONY ADAMS PUT THROUGH BY STEVE BOULD

Knowing Arsene the lad will probably end up as a Holding player!

Chamakh

“He has good defensive abilities and can read the game well. He can also play midfield and that’s where I see him in the future”

Bank of friendship

Usual Wenger buy

AlexP

Seeing how Everton got stones from lower league and as mentioned above there is a silly number of lower league players from last season that had a splendid season at the top level of the game I can see no reason as to why not sign a young relatively cheap English lad and add to competition for places.

Also I have to say chambers must have a lot of work to do if even through injuries and lack of form of other players this season he still didn’t get a look in to the first team squad at defense.

Witoldo

Except Stones has been a disaster over the last eight months. Just hyped because he’s the rare English centre back who can run without falling down and occasionally pick out a pass.

Theo's Radar

Give him £200k a week and let’s go!

beagleboy

That may be a trifle hasty.

Mpls

Yes, don’t forget setting him up with a Twitter account and guide to London nightlife.

Heroldg

Throws toys out of the pram because he was subbed 6 minutes to time and probably for his, own good as well? I say Arsenal is not Alexis

Kaine

In a game and season where he was sub par. I find it very annoying that players who let d club, fans and manager down are d first to throw tantrums. If we have had the Alexis of last season alongside giroud, we would have won d league.
He really should be ashamed of himself

The Only Olivier is Giroud

Considering how we struggled Holding onto leads against West Ham and Crystal Palace I say sign him up! *Gets coat*

Chamakh

Could be a nice find like Stones was for Everton. Probably cheap too so easy to offload if it doesn’t work out. Is this the works of the new scout Arsenal signed from Leicester? Could use some competition for Gabriel and Mertesacker, though not sure Mertesacker is still here after the summer

Stillmatic

Just Holding, you’re coming home
(Coming hooooooome),
Just Holding, you’re coming home,
(Coming hoooooome),
It’s hard to defend at Arsenal alone

Thorough

HOLDING in Central defense.
GRANITe in the holding midfield role.
you’ll be mad to not think these are the BUILDING BLOCKS of a tight defense that may not even let the COQ get in.
Shite joke but you get my drift I hope

Mega

You’re chatting breeze!

…block

I already took your coat

bystander

Apparently he has played some of the season at right-back as well, cue more Chambers comparisons. I wonder if we’ll buy him only to loan him immediately, either back to Bolton (this could help knock the price down) or to a Championship club.

KaltheGooner

If we don’t get him we may as well conceded next years title and champions league now. He is the best defender on the planet and just what we need. Also, whatever player becomes available tomorrow,if we don’t get him we are fu*ked…..whoever he is…..

Rob

Clearly just the player we need right now….

Alright Mate

Is Tony Adams the old Rob Holding?

Gunman

Sounds like another potential Wenger experiment. Why not just go out and sign the real deal no nonsense CB that we’ve been crying out for? Apparently we have alot of cash.

assistantref

Those aren’t so easy to find these days. Witness the 80 million Manchester city spent on those two jokers we played against yesterday.

Rohith J

I don’t see any reason to be apprehensive about Arsenal preparing the next line of centre backs. Gabriel, Chambers, Bielik and now Holding. I enjoy a Iwobi, Bellerin or Coquelin though I wouldn’t mind the occasional Sanchez, Ozil or Cech.

Steve Bould watches you sleep

His anagram is “big old horn” so he’s kind of a big deal… people know him

Arsetronomy

Holding Coq, what a combo!

Thierry Ennui

Yes!! Those two should just pass the ball back and forth between them until we die laughing at the commentary.

Holding.. Coq…
Coq.. Holding…

Now if only we can sign that wonder kid striker Ezekiel Sploosh from Scunthorpe Town

Ickenham goone

Didn’t we pinch a new scout during the year who has a record of finding English lower league talent? If I am remembering correctly, then no surprise if we get a few signings like this.

With spaces in the squad happy to fill it out with a few gambles.

mpls

Mr Bigglesworth from some club named Lester or something like that

Paul

“The defender is Holding, the midfielder’s Coq.
🙂

Indiegooner

If he signs for us, let’s hope he turns out to be like the former cricketer Holding (for those who are not aware, Micheal Holding’s nickname was Whispering Death ;))

LaLaLa

Is he a 6ft 4″ nasty cunt? Hope so

CHIGBO Anichebe

Arsblog, I was hoping you’d be reporting concluded deals on Messi or Suarez, not another prospect? We are still waiting for prospects like Walcott, Ox and Wilshire to mature, not another

Rasta

“The defender is Holding, the midfielder’s Coq. Hahahahaaaaa nice one!!

Arsenalfanman

How does leaving him out in a game this season change anything in terms of the transfer market which isn’t even open yet? Is it that BS line “if he got crocked in the last game we wouldn’t be able to sell him”?
