Cazorla aiming to be involved against City

Santi Cazorla says he hopes to be involved this weekend when Arsenal face Man City.

The Spanish international made his comeback last night for the U21s as they beat Blackburn 2-1, setting up a goal in the 60 minutes that he played.

He was on the bench for last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich but remained an unused sub, but is targetting his first appearance for the team since November as Arsenal look to secure a top four finish.

“I would like to help the first team at the weekend against Manchester City,” he told Arsenal Player. “They have the decision, but I will try to play at the weekend. We need to win the last two games as we want to finish in the top four.

“We need to fight until the end to try to get second place. If we win the last two games, we can do that. I want to help my team-mates.”

And on his return action after so long out, he said, “It is a great feeling after five months. I need to keep up the hard work with my team-mates in the first team and I want to play the last two games.”

It seems unlikely he’d be throw in from the start having been out for that long, but if he can come on and recapture a bit of that epic performance he had there last season, our chances of winning the game will certainly be improved.

Teams are gonna have a tough time getting the ball back with Elneny, santi and obviously Ozil in the middle. Proper players. As soon as Ramsey and Giroud come back into the team, we suddenly become a one dimensional team. Wenger needs to get rid of them this summer.

Ox in the box

Since when is Ramsey a one dimensional player? The man is a workhorse, he can do everything, and is a great passer to go with it. Check his passing stats when playing with Elneny, the two compliment each other like bread and butter. When all the histeria about fan favourites goes away (it never lasts, as Ramsey himself found out), that just might be our best midfield pairing.

DG

I think to them off form means– sell sell sell, a bit like stocks.

Bould's Eyeliner

Fortunately there are no super computers cranking trades of players per milliseconds like there are for stocks. On/off form is typical for every player, and when the team struggles for cohesion, it seems overly apparent.

We really need to keep players like Ramsey and Giroud, even if Giroud can be one-dimensional, because sometimes that’s the exact dimension you need. It’s like throwing away a monkey-wrench because you purchased a needlenose plier. You will need both.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

Arsenal cannot win the title with Giroud. You guaranteed Giroud will lose confidence for three months every season. I couldn’t believe I declared Giroud worldclass earlier this season. That was stupid of me.

Bould's Eyeliner

Yeah I’m just saying, it’s senseless to throw him away once we have a new striker. Squad player Giroud sounds great to me. Impact sub Giroud has always been reliable option in the past as well. Mr. Olivier ‘Plan B’ Giroud should be kept in the squad, if you get my drift.

Nic

Hero to zero to hero to zero.

Smart-Arse

Workhorse? Yes. But not suited to deep lying playmaker role. Compare his performance in that position to that of Cazorla or Arteta and you will surely acknowledge he is not that type of player. I find him so infuriating in that position. He should be on the right, or sub for Ozil, or not at all.

Aaron

Aye to that. Off the right he can be very effective and add an extra man to our midfield. But I don’t think he has the ability to play the creative role that Santi or Wilshere have

Mr. White

Passing stats? Wow. I’m sure players like Flamini and Joe Allen will have amazing stats if you look them up. Stats mean nothing if you play shit in real life. The only ones that matter are assists, goals and number of chances created for a midfielder. Talk about them stats that matter if you wanna talk up Ramsey. Just compare his stats to Cazorla and then comment back.

An Ox-sized Coq

I’d put Ramsey on the left or right, take the defensive burden off him. He seems to play better when his primary concern is getting into the box.

Why do football compilation videos have such awful music?…

ps love you Santi.

Bould's Eyeliner

I hope it’s because the makers were so engrossed in making the most perfect video, they traded their ears to the devil.

George

There’s a good chance we can finish 2nd, given the injuries, suspensions, and mental scars Sp*rs will no doubt have after the Chelsea game. Southampton and Newcastle will also have a lot to play for in their two games against Spurs. This game is huge for us, and it would be great to see Santi play a role in helping pick up the three points. I hope for his sake he gets fully fit and makes it to the Euros, because he is an absolute dream to watch.

“…fight until the end to try to get second place. If we win the last two games, we can do that.”

Hear that, George?

That’s the voice of St.Totteringham, conducted by our – hands down – best outfield attacking player of the last 4 years.

I always maintained that if we were within touching distance from the title by the time of his return, we’d win it. It wasn’t meant to be.

Bob Davis

It would be great to see him back in action against City.

Still can’t get over the Chelsea V Spurs game.
9 yellow cards.

I hope the FA come down hard them. Especially Lamella who trod on Cesc’s hand.

Stuart_Ten

Disgraceful wasn’t it? How Dier stayed on the pitch i’ll never know.

Arsene-al fan
NorthernGooner

I think it’s testament to this crazy season that despite Arsenal playing absolute crap for most of 2016, we are still within touching distance of the best s*purs side since god knows when.

There’s a faint but real chance of finishing on top of them and that’s without even trying.

PodB

Cesc rolled round like he’d been shot in the balls. Lovely Lamela should have sat on his face instead. Then Cesc tried to smash a senior citizen (Guus) while screaming in Spanish like Manuel with Basil Fawlty on his back. Chelsea were just as bad as the Spuds, comedy gold. Imagine if we’d bottled the league like that, we’d be smashed by every critic in the world … oh, wait … some cunt called Angus (Kiwi know-it-all working at the Daily Mail) described our squad this season as: “choking, spineless, gutless wonders” … We were robbed by poor refereeing (M… Read more »

Hope to see Coq-Caz partnership which made us tick unbelievably well.

Disgraceful yet wonderful viewing

02:30 though. *drools

Sean

You and me both, Santi.

Reading Mr Arseblog yesterday……….I thought the delighting in the Spuds demise, whilst understandable, is in itself , a “get out” clause to ignore (and never learn from), our own lifeless conclusion to the season.
Its a dangerous road to go down to laugh at a full blooded performance from a passionate team, just cause theyre Tottingham.
They were there, they were up for it, and theyve been “full on” all season.

TeeCee

Really? Looked like a typical season from Sp*rs to me.

Just when it looked like they might possibly get something out of it, they choked.

Iyodo

Oh Santi……..we’ve missed you

AlbZ

His injury might be the biggest contributor to our floundering season after the promising start.
What a player he is and has been since arriving.

Andres

What a game was that, and Santi was at the center of everything that was good that day.

Benriz

Imagine if he’d not been injured for so long? 🙁

It will be SO good to see him in action again. Hope he make the squad!

Tony Hall

Very happy to have him back, meanwhile on a side note would it be unreasonable to expect Griezmann, Reus, Kante and Hummels be asking too much of Arsenal this summer ?

santori

More Elneny bull I see. The midfield hasn’t exactly ensured that we have been water tight since both Coquelin and Elneny have come in. We have won close to as many as we have drawn or lost. This is not dissimilar if not worse than with Flamini and Ramsey When we dropped points with Ramini (Note we were without some of our best assets then), the blame goes to Flamini and Ramsey. When we drop points now, it isn’t the midfield’s fault. Elneny gets pushed around too easily. His passing statistics are highlighted by those statisticians who conveniently publish them… Read more »

Crash Fistfight

Could you please stop flogging this dead horse? It’s getting tiresome now.

You love Flamini – we get it. Practically nobody else (including the manager) shares the opinion that Flamini and Ramsey is a better combination than Elneny + A.N. other at the moment.

Please let it lie.
