New signing Rob Holding will wear the number 16 shirt after he completed his move from Bolton Wanderers today.
The 20 year old was nominated Player of the Season for the Trotters despite their relegation, and he takes the number previously worn by Aaron Ramsey, and briefly earlier this summer by Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss international had originally taken 16 when Ramsey moved to 8, but then changed to 29 because that’s how old his pet rabbit Beeltejuice was when he ran away from home.
The central-defender said of his move today, “It’s something you dream of as a kid, I can’t wait to get started.”

Southampton were/are in a much more stable financial position than Bolton (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/20/bolton-wanderers-staff-paid-wages-financial-crisis), Southampton are a mainstay in the Premier League and Bolton just got relegated from the Championship.
Bolton needs to sell, whereas Southampton didn’t have to sell.
