Calum Chambers has joined Middlesbrough on loan for the duration of the 2016-17 season.
The 21 year old signed for the Gunners in the summer of 2014 from Southampton for a fee of around £16m. His Arsenal career began brightly, but in recent times he’s struggled to convince Arsene Wenger and started just 2 Premier League games last season.
At this stage of his career a loan is crucial, as without playing time he simply won’t develop.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka was a central defender during his playing career, so hopefully his experience and coaching, along with regular football, will see Chambers get back on the right track.
Speaking to Boro’s official website about the acquisition of Chambers, Karanka noted:
“I’m really pleased. It’s a position where we’ve been working towards bringing the right player in.
“We haven’t been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he’s going to help us a lot.
“I’d like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That’s important and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
The door to his Arsenal career is definitely not closed according to the manager, but much will depend on how he performs for Boro this season. He definitely has potential, so good luck to him up there.
Good luck
He’ll be just fine. Really looking forward to seeing him play well! Show us what you can do, son!
Wish him the best! I’m still confident he can make it here but as a cb. Playing him in 3 different positions also didn’t help him imo. Really hope in about 3 years our 4cbs are mustafi holding chambers and Gabriel. Fingers crossed Gabriel and chambers can do a kos and coq respectively. 😉
The biggest thing to happen to Middlesbrough since Jeremie Aliadiere.
Teflon. ..Junior was the best thing to happen to Boro, come to think bout it, they did some how grab Mendieta…fuck knows how that happened! Good luck Callum

With Kos, Mustafi, and now Holding ahead of him – not to mention Gabriel and Per coming back mid-season – he wasn’t going to play without more injuries.
Which means he probably would be back in the starting XI in another few weeks. 🙁
Good luck, Calum! I’m sure he’ll do well and come back to us a better player
Wish him all the best – hope he comes back a beast. What a potential partnership we could have in the future – Chambers & Holding
Wish him all the best! Any idea what the other offer was?
Tony Pulis offered a baseball cap in return for the opportunity to turn Calum into an orc.
No thanks.
There was talk of a club abroad being interested, but not sure who.
Roma perhaps? They seem to want all our players on loan.
Juventus according to the Londond’s Evening Standard.
I love Chambers. Looking forward to him putting on the Arsenal red and white again in the next couple of years.
They’ve got themselves a very good player there. Good luck Calum. Come back stronger.
A loan move should be just what Calum needs, but I’d have felt a lot more comfortable if we waited until the January window to do it (by which point Gabriel and Jenko will be back and match fit). I’m assuming Debuchy will go, so the backup options for RB will be either to rejig the central defence to put Mustafi out wide or play Coq out of position, neither of which Arsene will do unless he has to because of injury. I can see Hector playing every match and getting run into the ground. I’d just hate to see… Read more »
Just wondering if anybody knows if we have a back up natural RB now, or talented youngster, given that Debuchy wants to, and might go….and Jenks out till early next year?
