Gabriel absence confirmed + Wilshere and Jenkinson updates

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Gabriel will miss 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury, but says the news is better than had initially feared.

The Brazilian turned his ankle in the turf on Sunday and looked as if he might have done serious damage, but reiterating the story that emerged yesterday, it’s relatively short-term.

“Gabriel has an ankle problem, and will be out for six to eight weeks,” he said. “It is a bit better than we feared at the start.”

Jack Wilshere’s knee problem will also keep him out of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

“Jack is doing well, but he will be short for Sunday,” said the boss. “He is back in training but will not be completely ready for Sunday.”

Which is good news, we guess. And on Carl Jenkinson, sidelined since January with a cruciate knee ligament injury, he said, “Carl is doing well, and he should be back in November. He is on schedule for his return.”

So there you go, the first injury updates of the new season. Welcome back, Dr Nick!

6-8 is better than 6 months, but Wenger needs to plan as if he will be out three months as ankle injuries are often tweaked and require more time out or as is often the history with Arsenal players they pick up muscular injuries while recovering from another injury.

I’m sure it’s, ‘ Hi, Everybody.’

so another season is upon us and lets hope we can go 1 better than last season, its unlikely but not impossible.
Lets put on the back biting behind us and support and cheer on the lads, my motto is expect the worst but hope for the best.
Lets give Liverpool a good hard beating 🙂

Great news about Gabriel and even better about Wilshere. Hopefully he’s ready for leicester.
Wilshere is another reason why I don’t see wenger signing a RW (mahrez) unless it means converting Alexis to a 9. CM is just too crowded and I think Ramsey and Elneny are all ahead of him at the moment.

Arsene's handkerchief

I really hope for the sake of the manager, players and fans that we don’t lose the first couple of games. I was there for the game against Villa before we got Ozil and the atmosphere was toxic. Whatever you think about Arsene, the players and our transfer policy, the last thing we can do as fans is start arguing with one another and losing sight of the bigger picture which is Arsenal. There were times last year I went to games and actually didn’t enjoy it, simply because it wasn’t fun anymore. Let’s keep the faith that we will… Read more »

Off topic, but I just had an encounter with a vile woman on a train to the airport, who accused me of sitting in her seat (I wasn’t, of course). She was aggressive and very unpleasant, and then tried to make false accusations to the train guard (who, bless him, wasn’t having any of it). Two blokes stood up to stand up to her, one of whom was wearing an Arsenal shirt. They told her, far more forcefully than I could muster, to sod off and leave me alone. She duly did. I thanked them, and complemented them on a… Read more »

“Hi Dr. Nick!”

being the ever sceptical on AFC injuries 6 to 8 weeks is too short for us we then have the set back the reaction to training then not responding as we liked to treatment oh it needs an operation back in February yep thats how we roll AFC DNA

“He is back in training but will not be completely ready for Sunday.”

So, probably on the bench by February then?

RamseyMidfieldNightmare

“Jack is doing well, but he will be short for Sunday,”

He is short every other day of the week as well.

A Different George

It’s good to have an update; I always wonder what Jack is up to.

Ckmgma

Well as long as hes not doing drugs or getting into fights at clubs I go by the no news is generally good news principle.

Anonymarse

That’s very height-ist

Chris O.

To be fair, Jack’s short every day, not just Sundays.

kafka

Jack is injured long term. This is a drip-drip lie, he will have a “setback” next. I’m just telling you what I feel, not jinxing anything. Wilshere is jinxed already.

Paul

No he is in training so no lies, but your prophesy will probably come true!

Stacey Tagle

It s not like there isn t precedent in that regard, but at least midfield we do have options, and hopefully it s just as short-term as they think it is. Like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere has to stay fit first and foremost, and then give the manager some thinking to do by playing well enough to force his way into the team.
