Report: Ramsey to miss a month

Via the Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson, Aaron Ramsey is set to miss a month with the hamstring he picked up against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Welshman went down around the hour mark clutching his left hammy and as a player with a history of muscular injuries, it’s a bit of a worry.

Earlier Arsene Wenger pointed to the fact Ramsey had gone quite some distance in the European Championships as a factor, saying, “You are in a Catch-22 situation with the Euros – do you give the players a rest and start the season without many of your players? Or do they play in this kind of game and get injured, like Ramsey today?”

However, his last game was on July 1st meaning he’s had at least 6 weeks rest and is hardly being played into ground.

It means that Ramsey will miss the games against Leicester and Watford away, but could return after the international break in time for Southampton.

Arsenal are still waiting on news regarding Alex Iwobi’s thigh injury.

Watch us buy a midfielder as cover……

Block 94

Hopefully Mahrez

La Défense

Tbh Arsenal looked much better as a team after Ramsey came off…

Deonord

Yes, but in the first half was our best midfielder. He wasn’t fit enough to maintain his activity though.

Bould's Eyeliner

Honestly, our midfield is going to be inconsistent for a few months. We might find one combo but as circumstances force our hand (as they always do), we’re going to be left with a midfield combo that’s uncomfortable. It’s the direct consequence of just bringing in two new midfielders into the mix. What WOULD have been nice, is if that was the only thing we had to worry about. Obviously a dysfunctional midfield also goes a long ways to screw up a defensive unit as well, so Ramsey being out is never good, for his sheer pitch coverage. I don’t… Read more »

While Campbell doesn’t make the bench.

Paul

You are forgetting that Campbell committed a heinous crime against humanity in Arsene’s secret parallel universe. 🙂

Paul

Well that’s what Ornstein said…

Probably buy a packet of fags and tell us the money went up in smoke!!!

Coquelin's 3rd leg

When he comes back he’ll be like a new sig …

I can’t do it. I’m too depressed.

Our midfield problem solved..

Pain

Hard to imagine how Aaron Ramsey played almost every game at the Euros, had a splendid holiday, came back played one game for us and he’s injured. Is it bad luck or what?

Bould's Eyeliner

Maybe it’s because Ramsey plays No. 10 for Wales, but fat chance that happens at Arsenal. If you remember 2013-14 he effectively played a similar role for Arsenal and shined then too.

But Ozil is better, so that’s ok. Getting the max out of his fitness as a box-to-box mf, as he is quite capable in all areas of football, is actually a good role for him given the context of our squad. I’d definitely rate Cazorla over Ramsey in a No. 10 role for us as well.

The WorldCup/Euros curse strikes again ! There’s too much in their schedule . The price of success I guess!

Ashley Cooke

Hate to say this but well at least Wenger can’t pick him now. He was f***ing terrible against Liverpool. Player balloons going it over from 40yards’ “it can only be Ramsey.. Yep, Ramsey” Loses possession with yet another bizarre wayward pass and Liverpool counter and score. Miscontrolled in front of goal when any half decent touch would’ve resulted in a fairly good chance of scoring. Over elaborates and flatters to deceive. I think I speak for most of us when I say I’m figuratively holding my head in my hands waiting for the purple patch player of 3 seasons ago… Read more »

This. Fucking this.
For now this will clarify wenger’s thinking.
Watch him get fit and walk back in, unbalancing the team again.

Paul

Ramsey is “Hollywood” end of.
Sell him to Barca for shed loads…imo.

Bkamp4ever

I think Wenger was reasonable to select the team he did yesterday, except for Ramsey, which has been a recurring theme over the past few seasons. Wenger was right to start coq and elneny as the pivot bearing in mind our central defenders were inexperienced. Hence, it was imperative to have our best creative option at the apex of the triangle. With ozil unavailable, cazorla should have started.Ramsey tries to hide his deficiency in creativity with his tireless running. But both him and elneny having similar attributes(apart from elneny not being as wasteful), it was too much of the same… Read more »

Ramsey is a better player than Elneny.

Bkamp4ever

That again would depend upon how you see it. As an individual talent, yes, but as a team player, no, simply because elneny contributes much more to the team in that he sticks to what is needed of him, and brings solidity to hide position.

Bkamp4ever

His… Sorry

arsens army

Elneny brings much more to the arsenal team than Ramsey. His work rate and desire, his distribution, his defense. At this time he’s much more the complete player. Should easily be a first on the roster sheet. Really a no brainer.

kafka

Also, do you remember, that great season was not just about his goals? His tackling and recovery numbers were excellent too. He was a serious, committed midfielder with an engine and a desire to do more than just finishing moves.
Seemed humble too, now ego seems to have gone to his head. Doesn’t he realize that Wenger treats him as a favorite?

arsens army

I completely agree. Ramsey is more concerned with forcing the spectacular instead of playing with what’s given at the moment. A fully fit Santi starts over Ramsey every day. It’s a shame after the euros I thought Ramsey would come back full of confidence and ready to stake claim to a starring role. If Sundays performance is any evidence of what to expect from him I’m speechless.

wellarsed

Arsenal news just continues to get worse …

Kate

Fuck this fucking world

Jonas

On the bright side: more Santi!

Getso gunner

Sorry Ramsey

Tee Söng

So we know that if a player is not fully match fit, that they are prone to muscular injuries. We know that neither Ramsey nor Cazorla were match fit. Given that scenario, Wenger was correct in stating that it’s a Catch-22 regarding resting players vs playing them in a competitive match prior to being fully match fit. However, we also know that Ramsey is susceptible to muscular injuries even when he’s match fit. Given that information, how does it make sense that Ramsey is picked over Cazorla? Ramsey has missed two to three months every season with various muscular injuries… Read more »

Jorin

I think, Wenger felt that playing Ramsey in a team devoid of players who can score goals regularly increases our chances to score. Ramsey scores more goals than Santi. I’m not agreeing with Wenger, I think Santi helps the midfield tick much better. But I assume that’s what Wenger was thinking. His famed “goals should also come from midfield”.

On another note, WHERE’S THAT GOD DAMN STRIKER!!

Granit(e) hard!

Valid question Tee, was thinking exactly the same.

@Jorin…..i agree, has to be, else it would have been an illogical choice, perhaps even suicidal, given the opposition recently tore Barca, who plays similar style of football to pieces.

broken red army

what was the last thing Wenger did that “made sense” to begin with

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

Because Carzola came from long term injury and got some little problems during pre-season.

Injury Crisis FC

Maybe we’ve got it all wrong and Wenger just picked Ramsey because he is more expendable than Santi but thought Ramdog would survive.

Wizard of Ozil

I’ve never been so apathetic about Arsenal before. How many times do we have to go through the same routine of seeing us underprepare for the start of the season. How many times do we have to watch Arsenal stagnate due to dithering in the transfer market. How many times do we have to see our players pick up far more injuries that any other top club. We have a clear problem with our transfer strategy. We have a clear problem that is causing player injuries (it’s not bad luck there has to be a core reason). I’m not even… Read more »

It won’t improve though and we all know it because we have this very same conversation every season and we give Arsene one last chance every season …

RosickyUBeauty

This season is different, this time they really got me and all I want is Wenger to leave .. no title no top four finish just Wenger gone

Georgycharles

I know it looks bad and call me a deluded fool, but I think Arsene has got this – it might look like reckless incompetence and wanton mismanagement on a brand scale, but it’s all part of a grand strategy that will all become clear as the season unravels…l mean, unfolds….

Ian

Same as the last 7 years

broken red army

yeah right? last time I saw these words outa my mouth I remember Nasri and Fabregas was still playing for us. it can continue another 10 years and still you’d find people saying the same shite. after all a blind supporter is one’s worst enemy

Sideshow_bob

I’m honestly wondering if Campbell will ever even make the bench. Poor guy was one of our best players in pre season. Ozil will take Ramsey’s place, Giroud Akpom’s and Wilshere will take iwobi’s place in the 17 man matchday squad. So I honestly dont know how he will even get on the subs bench for a few matches till someone gets injured as usual.

sanku

is campbell situation same as that korean striker we never played..

COYG1001

Substitute early. Rotate often. And play players with heart, hunger and discipline. Quality is only party of the equation. Oh, and get your transfers done early like a large, medium or small COMPETENT team.

Xhakira

Well thank God we signed a world class striker to offset any potential drawbacks such as this.

broken red army

exactly and all those Man Utd supporters saying you paid like 10 £millions over the odds for “Sir World Class Finisher” will look like big fools after we win the league. specialy after his debut match winning performance against Pool.

BigDave

Good job we’ve got shed loads of midfielders to cover…… Shame about the defence and up front.

Alexstratz

If we can’t beat Leicester or Watford without Ramsey, with the number of quality midfielders we have, then I don’t know what to think about this team anymore.

sanku

i am worried about leicester game
not because we don’t have too many fit players
its because when arsene mentions our mental level is not upto the mark
we tend to not win some more games
but why arent they mentally ready
shouldnt they be excited that a proper season has begun ? or is it only for fans?
I think we lack ruthlessness if a player we dont get rid of him, maybe

GregD

Utter nonsense. There was no reason Ramsey had to start if the manager didn’t feel he was match fit. This was nothing more than Wenger being his usual stubborn self.

PenguinBandit

Why the heck did Arsene played him then if he wasn’t fit? Iwobi or Cazorla could’ve played in that role. Have Walcott/Ox and Campbell on the wings.

Mark

Will surely be more than a month as he’ll be rushed back ahead of healthy, capable players and strain either that hamstring or another muscle and be out two or more months.

'Murica

I don’t want to feel as negative as I do. I really don’t. It just feels like my optimism is crashing around me with the injuries, the transfer activity(or lack thereof), and the overall mood around the team. Just give us something to cheer and we will all be there.

Wishing Ramsey a quick recovery. Longtime reader and podcast listener, infrequent comment-maker. Please consider this a catch-all of my thoughts for the last 18 months. Like so many, I find the last two summer transfers, last season and this season opener…utterly exasperating. Like you all, I am not blind. I’ve seen Alexis (of Barca) lead Chile to two Copas, Ozil (of Real) acquit himself with exceptional skill in a World Cup Final win and a quality Euro performance, Giroud and Koscielny show their abilities with France, Ramsey play a key role in Wales amazing Euro run, Hector Bellerin make the… Read more »

Cyprus The Immortal Gooner

Me feeling apathy is the worst feeling I’ve ever had for Arsenal since I can remember…

Nullvinho

This seems to be a trend with Ramsey. I remember reading an article not too long ago about Arsenal players being “too slack” in the gym, and while warming up, etc. Maybe Ramsey’s not warming up properly before he comes on.

RosickyUBeauty

How is that during international matches this never seems to happen.

Matt

There must be something about it yeah; can’t be that he plays a game every 4 days in the Euros and doesn’t get injured and here immediately does. All this so called “bad luck” is not bad luck at all when it repeats season after season under Wenger

Matt

I think Ramsey is not as good as we think he is. He had that one very good season and then disappeared. We have enough ppl in central midfield and on the wings, although I’d love Mahrez to come here.
The CB and a striker are urgently needed though.
If we win a few games now + a couple of good players we will be fine

Ancient Gooner

It is the players on the pitch that we should blame. Wenger wasn’t on the pitch neither was Gazidis nor the Board. Cech let 4 goals in,Walcott, the Ox and Chambers ONLY scored one goal apiece! Above all else,we are poverty stricken; we have to use/ save up what financial resource we have for a striker . How can we compete with our rich comrades who have money, talent and other resources that we lack? Let’s face it,the end is nigh,we are doomed.
On an optimistic note ,prove me wrong Gunners! Like moribund murderers ,strike the last blow at Leicester.

O2ba

Fuck our luck

Jeff

We’re all missing the obvious regarding injuries. We’ve had them for over ten years, season in, season out. The stadium has changed, the fitness staff have changed, the medical staff have changed, the players have changed. All new…the one common denominator? Yes, Wenger! He’s the reason, pure logic!

Arseblood

Ramsey….what a joke. He played 4 fuckin’ games in the Euros….so what??!
He can’t stay fit.
Add Wilshere, Walcott, Gibbs, Welbeck and last seasons dynamic trio of Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini…there are questions about ever aspect of our dysfunctional club.
But we keep paying through the nose.

Andrés

Put usd80millons over the table and get Vidal. You have a CD+MD+striker in one man.

Sorry, I forgot you’re a pussy getting quality players
