Wilshere heading for Crystal Palace on loan?

All tomorrow’s UK papers are reporting that Jack Wilshere is heading for a season-long loan at Crystal Palace.

The Mirror say there were 22 offers for the midfielder after he pushed to be allowed leave in order to play more regularly. Arsenal have acquiesced and despite offers from top European clubs like Roma and Valencia, Selhurst Park appears to be his destination.

One might, if one were that way inclined, wonder about a situation where after 22 offers the best you could do was work with Alan Pardew.

Still, Palace would be a relatively easy option for Wilshere. With family considerations he wouldn’t have to leave London, but then there’s a good case to be made that getting away from some of the distractions of his day to day life might not be the worst thing for him.

And, you know, he could decide to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal if he really wanted.

For more on this, join us tomorrow here on Arseblog News where we’ll have a transfer deadline day live blog running right up until the window closes at 11pm.

Yes, we’re gluttons for punishment, but you can help keep us sane. Ish.

Unpopular Opinion: Wilshere offers us the least in the centre of the midfield out of all the options available. Would pick Ramsey over him any day.

AdrianLondonCanada

Don’t forget how awesome Jack is. It’s easy to forget since he has barely played over the past 2 seasons.
He just needs to play every week now to get back into his groove, and he can’t get that at Arsenal.
But if we all get our memories back, maybe watch some highlight vids, you will know once he gets back into his groove he would start in our midfield.

David C

staying healthy is part of being an awesome player. I fear we may never see the best of this guy due to injuries. I know what I’m talking about. My men’s league 3rd division career in Canada came to an abrupt ending after snapping some ligaments in the ole kicking ankle. I still can’t even fathom playing men’s league again for fear of another injury/setback.

I find it amazing that Jack keeps coming back for more! I hope he makes it with us, but the realist knows how it plays out…

MannyG

Adrian, I agree to an extent. Jack at his best is unplayable. But I wouldn’t pick him over Cazorla or Elneny. They both offer a bit more stability in my humble opinion.

andy

yeah but he’s not Cazorla or Elneny – he’s a one man slalom trying to run through the midfield into the final third. I’m not sure that works. We’ve got a different thing going maybe.

Clegooner

Unplayabe because he’s on the training table.

thebetterJFK

Obviously Wenger, who sees him every day in practice, clearly sees that we can do fine without him. I assume there’s a recall clause where we pay a fee if we need him as well. The barely played in two years doesn’t help either, prove it another club and hopefully come back stronger and better

Ebo

That’s very possibly true in their current form, not if Jack ever manages to get back to his best form.

another yank

That night he played Barcelona’ all time Midfield Triumvirate off the pitch, is still in there. That beautiful Norwich flowing move and delicate deft touch is still in there. This is a positive for a couple reasons. Wenger showing some real (call it high level on Wenger scale) decisiveness in filling the squad and sending people out not up to snuff, like Chambers, Szczesny, Campbell (even though i make him SO AWESOME in my FIFA 16 sim) while also giving Jack a chance to play more. Jack get’s an opportunity to *stay healthy* and find some form, and it slightly… Read more »

Campbell's Forehead

I would disagree – he has a lot of the qualities our other midfielders have displayed into one. He can play a quick one-two, can deliver a brilliant long pass and can also tackle. He also has a quality our other selection of midfielders don’t have, he can drive through the opposition with the ball. But of course, where he’s very prone to injury, he’s not been able to do this on a regular basis. I would love him to stay and fight for his place but a loan move would do him good and hopefully he can come back… Read more »

Locksley444

Examples of the ‘brilliant long ball’? Wilshere rarely attempts those.

PFo

Many in his best displays for England over the last few years, e.g. to the Ox for a great goal against Scotland.

Campbell's forehead

Did many a excellent long ball pass when playing a deeper role for England.

https://youtu.be/IbW8g7XGw9s did a few in just this one game.

Clegooner

Agree.

We should have sold him 2-3 years ago when he was worth something ( and back when Prem teams could actually sell players).

AlexisKoszil

Let Jack go on loan. When he’s all good and ready, we’ll recall him in Dec ala The Coq recall

PFo

Except we can’t since we’re insanely not putting a break clause in, presumably so we can squeeze a little more money out of the loan club for Kroenke’s ranch.

Justin

Sad to see him go , but I’m excited to see more willock and the Jeff this season than holding my breath on Wilshire . Either way he’s still one of my favorite gunners and I’m rooting for him

Xxxrob

Although mentioned in the article itself I always suspected it might be a London club, given his family.

I can’t shake the feeling that moving is a bad idea for the club though. Buzzing about signing the two lads from La liga but now sad to see jack potentially moving (even though it’s a loan). Feels like two steps forward one step back with this Arsenal lol

Hopefully there is some sort of recall option inserted to cover for emergencies.

RosickyLegend7

Would be better if he goes somewhere like Spain or Germany. It suits his style of play and tackles won’t come flying in targeting him. Wherever he goes wish him the best of luck and hopefully comes back healthier and better.

Spooner

Surely the best place to send him would be Charlton Athletic?

Sancheezy

I was hoping he’d go to AS Roma with his best mate and win the league. Honestly, thought he’d benefit from playing in Serie A and with Spaletti. Tactically isnt just a different game but I guess Crystal Palace will do… or not.

assistantref

He’d have trouble getting a regular spot in Roma’s team in the middle. Hard to displace any of De Rossi, Naingolan or Strootman. If the idea was to go somewhere he’ll start every game (fitness permitting) rejecting Roma was a good move.

Lloyd Townsend

It’s much smarter to keep him in England if he does go on loan, firstly because of his family, secondly because he can readjust to the style of football needed, and thirdly, because I doubt he can/would want to learn Spanish/German/Italian just for a season’s worth of work.

Karl

How is learning a new language bad for a player?

olly

really don’t want to see him anywhere but arsenal! I can only wish him all the best. Not the last we will see of him, get fit & see you walking the wonderland again soon.

ps. fuck that shit jack, don’t leave.

Kate

Maybe this is a move to stop us getting caught out like we did with Diaby?

Derek

I think the deals to top European clubs may have buyout clauses which is not favourable for either jack or the club. Plus all he wants is to play games and get back his place in the national team and Arsenal. So staying in the PL makes a lot of sense to me.

AdrianLondonCanada

What are you talking about distractions blogs?
He has a fiance now and he’s pretty clearly a family man. Try following him on instagram.
It’s just clear that he’s left all that crap behind him, even if it is still relatively recently. You gotta give someone the chance, without bringing up their past all the time.

Gunnerlocutor

I just want him to stay fit, enjoy his football, develop his game, and help Palace take some points off our rival clubs. You know he will be up for the Spuds. Ornstein tweeted that AFC was trying to negotiate a “no break clause” for the loan. Can someone enlighten me as to what that means?

TR

It means you cannot cancel the contract before its ending period without financial penalty.

Warm

I belive Arsenal are trying to safe themselve from having to paid his wage if in case he got injured and he got send back to us, which is outrageous

Daft Aider

managed by Pardew?, feck

wellarsed

Frankly, I’ll be sad to see him go. But, perhaps a loan spell and a consistent run of games will be exactly what he needs? Still, it’s going to be strange seeing him in a CPFC shirt!

Indian Gooner

So, with Wilshere going out on loan and with Gnabry said to be getting sold.. Don’t you think we are starting to look weak down the right hand side?
Theo and Ox both are injury prone..
Squad depth.. We can never afford to have that aye?

Indian Gooner

And Wilshere being a homegrown player, doesn’t want a PL medal, I believe so!

lol

Theo, Ox, Ramsey and Perez can all play on the right hand side. There’s enough depth.

AdrianLondonCanada

Don’t forget Iwobi and Welbeck!

Tom Gun

Two words Indian Gooner:

The. Jeff.

Steven

Sanchez, Iwobi, Lucas can all play left and right too…also have Jeff promoted from the youth team behind that…

Mr. G

He’s not auto-first choice but feels he should be, so rather than fight for his place he sulks and agitates for a move. Sounds like a certain French right back who is now pretty much detested by every fan of the club. I’d block any loan moves. We’ll need to rotate the squad over the coming months, so let’s make the most of him adding to pur depth before he gets another six month injury lay-off. One good season six years ago is nowhere near an acceptable enough excuse to force the club into loaning him out because he isn’t… Read more »

hurensohn

Why not just do a 6 month loan? We all know what usually happens in the new year. I bet at some point in the season we’re saying “we could do with Jack right now”…

hurensohn

*4 month

pkiwi

Agreed. Xhaka and Cazorla (‘Cazorka’?) is a very exciting combination for the new season. Jack can play most similarly as the Spaniard and really should be understudy and injury back-up to him.

Atlgooner

Xhakorla

loose_cannon

Well that’s the problem, he doesn’t want to be an understudy, he wants game time and fair enough considering he hasn’t played regularly for so long. I’d prefer he was given minutes at Arsenal but I can absolutely see why he’d force this through

Warm

Then a half year loan. Im sure many clubs would be interest in doing a deal with his quality.

There is always some point after Christmas when our movement gets a bit stale and teams sit back even deeper when im crying out for wilshere to get off the physio table and come in to make a difference.

He is a catalyst in our midfield. All action, drive. desire and a touch of class when needed. midfield depth bla bla. He is a unique player and he will be sorely missed if he goes on loan for a year.
Know some will disagree but i think an in form wilshere and xhaka is the best pairing we can field.

richardanus

Jack has set the bar very low, for himself. Might be the start a slow slide into obscurity.

Adam Muggy

As long as the club are clever with the paperwork on this one, I really see it being a win-win for all parties. Let’s not forget many of you had him down as 5/6th choice when buzzing over Xhaka and our midfield duo combinations. As long as we don’t let him get attached to a stupid but out clause then it sounds great. He either will get more playing time, stay injury free, prove to be a great player and we bring him back after a year. Or he gets injured again and we don’t have to pay his wages… Read more »

Hodor

Na not crystal palace ffs lets just keep him in the squad. He will get more game time but he will be managed prick. Its not like he won’t get game time here. I wasn’t aganist the loan but I thought he would get a better club than crystal palace.

AdrianLondonCanada

Jack’s the superstar of that team, you don’t think the team will be arranged around him ?
Pardew is over the moon to have him, nothing to worry about really.

Holding Rob

Yeah this will seem smart when injuries pile up.
Duck me we play weekend and midweek almost every week from now until Christmas. Some quality depth would certainly help. Two new signings is cool, but if Wilshire, gnabry and Chambers leave, and yeah Campbell is gone. Why are we thinning out our squad before deadline day?
This seems like a joke. A bad one

tanned arse

We have so many options in the center of the park which is clearly great to have and also to cover any injuries we inevitably sustain. However, since they are all on a par in terms oh seniority, I feel the temptation is too great to shuffle those players around too much n order to keep them happy. That would be detrimental in my view to building up real partnerships and top form. So I think it’s best to go with 6 players rather than 7 for those positions

ACPFC

Couldn’t be more chuffed. As a South London gooner, who’s second team is Palace this is a fantastic move for jack to prove himself able to stay fit and find his feet again. Unlikely he’ll get the chance with the current choices at AFC. Give him a return clause though.

rochester

Hat tricks against the scum, chelsea and the manchester clubs and I’m happy…

Greh Greysh

Personally I think the team has passed him by. It’s not all his fault as he’s been very unlucky with injuries, however I don’t think he’s reached the levels people have expected. A loan would do him well I think he’s obviously behind several of the central midfielders.

leroy

he can’t go! we’ll need him on the bus in may when we’ve won the league to remind tot’num that they are shit.

Dark Arts

Allardycio on a power trip? Yuk.

Drelord

I didn’t realize that Jack asked to be loaned out? Thought it was the other way around? Seems like a fairly sensible move either way, although I’d be happier to see a short term loan / break clause so we can bring him back when the January injury season begins.

Simon

Prediction for tomorrow:

18:00 – Gnabry move to Bremen confirmed
21:30 – Jack wilshere loan move to Palace confirmed

That’s it guys. I really wreckon u should take this one off Arseblog, why put yourself through a whole day for those two announcements? Think we’d all forgive you for not wanting to sit there posting “tumbleweed”

iamtheantisp*r

I rate Wilshere highly but the thing he needs to do the most this year is stay healthy and play. He’s naturally talented so the form will come but he has to be able to play. Plain and simple. All other considerations, for him and for the club, can only come after that.

Little Mozart

This makes me unhappy.

DialSquareGoon

Me too. Next to Jenkinson, there’s no bigger supporter of Arsenal who plays for the first team, so I have a soft spot for him. If he assessed the situation and decided he wanted to leave on loan to get more playing time, then fair play. But I think it’s a bad idea to let him leave as he’ll be needed when injuries inevitably deplete our midfield.

Blitz Bailey

He has barely played football his entire proffessional career, so he really needs to play if he is going to fullfill his potential. Short term it would be better for the club if he stayed as backup, long term though it would probably be better if he went on loan and came back a strong confident player ready to rumble with the big boys.

Fred

This is jack shit 😉

santori

Sounds highly unlikely.

We have only 7 mids for 3 positions.

Ozil, Ramsey, Santi, Jack, Elneny, Granit, Le Coq

2 of them are highly injury prone.

Media nonsense.

Anup

Interesting move if this happens, though I wonder if perhaps it would be more beneficial to go abroad and develop a bit more tactically.

Italy would do wonders…and maybe even Spain would suit him.

Good luck either way Jacky-boy

Anup

Also should a loan go through, it will leave us with an extra space in our midfield reserves (we need them) which a Jeff/Zelalem could fill.

That would kill two birds with one stone, in terms of developing two players in one go

Anup

Yay?

Stuck on repeat...

Really struggling to understand this transfer window. We do good, then do bad, then do nothing, which was also bad. Then just when we seem to do good again, we seem to intentionally mess it all up again by loaning Campbell (if we’re honest he’s probably not coming back), loaning Wilshire (to Crystal Palace & worse Pardew out of 22 apparent offers) & probably letting Gnabury go.

…Strange window indeed.

Would have loved to have had a strong full squad, rotated players, coped with injuries without breaking into a sweat, & actually gone for it across all competitions this year

Stewart Robson's therapist

We have two players for every position on the pitch, even with Campbell, Gnabry and Wilshere. I’m not sure how much more depth you’re looking for, quite frankly.

Stewart Robson's therapist

athreya

As long as he helps them take points off Chelsea and United it is fine.

Yankee Gooner

As much as I don’t want him to be loaned on an emotional level, I truly think that getting to play in a boatload of matches against good competition will do wonders for him and, thus, the Arsenal. It may also be helpful to play in a side that doesn’t always attempt “beautiful” football (while he’s finding himself again) but instead plays a more straightforward style.

Also, please do not start Gabriel against whatever side to whom he’s loaned.

C J

If he were to go Roma or Valencia, it’d probably take him a while to get first team spot as he’d have to, at least, adjust and get familiar with the league. If he were to go to Crystal palace he’s almost guaranteed first team spot, as he’s already familiar with the league and, when fit, is a class above Ledley and Cabaye. It’s a no-brainer if he were to choose Crystal Palace; there he’ll be guaranteed regular game time, and would be more likely to work his way back into the England squad. As of now though, these are… Read more »

bonkers

It honestly tickles me that xavi not only commented on a wilshere loan but that he went on to say it would help jack have a great career at arsenal. He obviously remembers that game jack played against barca and it feels like a respectful nod our way

Nullvinho

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Squad depth looked amazing but with Gnabry and Wilshere leaving, doesnt it leave us short of options? Need at least one more passing, dribbling, smooth-talking midfielder in the squad now.

Ditch the Blue

Did that lot up the road put in an offer?

Hulk

He really should go to Serie A or LaLiga as they will improve his all-round game a lot more.
He knows how to get stuck in and injured, he needs to learn how to use his head and both leagues would give him that advantage.

Mach iii

10 poos.

Not a chance he is leaving.

Monkey Nuts

Crystal fucking Palace where’s his ambition? Should be looking abroad to improve as a player and person.

Michael Owen's Brain

So now Mesut can wear no. 10? I know, it’s a long shot but would be awesome.

Elcamino

I’m disappointed in Jack..I thought he was a Gunner through and through. We stuck by him so why.let him get injured somewhere else?

I think he’d have plenty of.playing time here..I’d keep him…who gives a funck what he wants….I think Wenger is too nice

Mach iii

I agree. He’ll stay.

RamseyMidfieldNightmare

I was excited by the idea of him joining Juventus as the is a big gap in their midfield and some diversity would help his progress. Shame.

At least Crystal Palace are bringing in some big guns up front.
