Hector Bellerin says Arsenal have been growing in confidence in recent weeks and that the victory over Chelsea proves their ability to execute a gameplan.
The Spaniard enjoyed a fruitful afternoon on the right flank, assisting Theo Walcott on 14 minutes, keeping Eden Hazard quiet throughout and earning a standing ovation for an impressive recovery tackle on Pedro in the closing stages.
Reflecting on the victory, Arsenal’s first over Chelsea since the 5-3 win at Stamford Bridge in 2011, the Spaniard highlighted how much he enjoyed the occasion.
“It was a great game, I think the team started really, really well and you know, we picked up on the last few victories of the past week and it’s great that the team is in such a great shape,” Bellerin told Arsenal Player.
“It’s great when it’s a game like this, when you can enjoy, I think the fans have enjoyed it a lot and you’re comfortable and you get the goals. And that’s something that the team needed and something we’ve been working for – it’s great to see this machine work.
“The team has been starting the games with a lot of intensity and good tempo and that’s what we’ve done today. I think we knew the gameplan and we knew how to play them – that’s shown on the pitch.”
At full time, Arsene Wenger was full of praise for 21-year-old Bellerin; a player he believes continues to develop.
“I believe Hector is absolutely growing with every single game,” he told Arsenal Player.
“He is dangerous going forward but he has also gained a lot defensively.
“He can cover the centre back as well and that was not a quality he had when he started, but he is an intelligent boy and I think he will be a top, top-level player.”
Performance was from the very top drawer
The top, top drawer surely!
Now, almost any players who play FB can play CB.
That’s what Wenger says right?? No?
I came when I saw that Bellerin run and recovery tackle on Pedro …
That’s kind of gross
Off topic but how scary is this?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-37472013
Its from Brazil
I find it almost scary that I was never in doubt he’d get back to make the tackle. It shows how fast he is, but also just how strong and capable he’s becoming in defense.
¡Vámonos Hector!
Top top level lad
Each win brings confidence to everyone related to Arsenal football club. Keep up the good work lads.
Shouldn’t he be saving world in his free time? Using his super speed and all that?
It’s just unbelievable to think how this guy came out of nowhere and surpassed both Jenko and Chambers. He didn’t have a great loan at Watford and I remember people talking about how IBE gave him a torrid time in a youth game. If anything, you’d think he’d be getting into the squad this season, instead he’s gone on to be one of the best rb in the world. Credit to Wenger who knew the right time to unleash him. I remember when Debuchy was injured and he kept on using Chambers till he got replaced. Barca can spout their… Read more »
Same goes with Jordi Alba. He was a left winger for his entire career, up until a season or so into his Valencia stint. Then he became half decent at the gig, and Barca went “Oh, he’s not half bad, let’s get him back!”
Only difference is, we’re no longer in a position where a good offer will force our hands. And we’ve never been in the debt that Valencia have been for the past… God knows how many years.
Basically, fack off Barca!
We should jus tie him up on 25year contract with a billion pound release clause…
He has the potential to become our best ever right back! Keep up the hard work hector!
Not much competition though, I’d say RB might be our weakest overall spot. Who was best between Lauren, Lee Dixon, and Bacary Sagna?
Eboue, obviously
All of them were great players
Lauren. That tackle on Ronaldo alone earns his legend status.
Shocking comment.
Are you serious!?
My favorite part about the tackle on Pedro was that it wasn’t even one where he barely got back and had to be careful to wrap his leg around to get the ball.
If you watch close he got out to a sizeable lead in front of Pedro and was able to time the tackle easily this way with a much better angle to work with. Hector Bellerin is rapid.
Hands off, Barça, this lad is London through and through.
Exactly, I was completely confident that Pedro was going nowhere
Bellerin da bolt
The unit is more important than the individual. Which is why I never get this obsession with the “World Cass” moniker. We make world class. Koscielny certainly wasn’t world class when he came to us. He wouldn’t be if the rest of the team defend like ducks. For this coming CL match I think we need to rotate. The trick for the longevity of the season would be to do enough change not to upset the balance/understanding but refresh some legs for the weekend’s work. I think we need to make 5 changes. 1) Ospina in goal of course. This… Read more »
Giroud is suspended.
World class ability does matter. It is the difference between messi and hazard or a neymar and walcott. No matter how well organized you are, individual ability will always triumph. Leicester had Mahrez and Kante who are all world class.
Pray to the lord he doesn’t get injured! Squad is intriguing at the moment, obviously not pleased Coquelin is injured one bit, but I think Xhaka and Cazorla can transform us on an attacking front, with Sanchez up front and Xhaka and Cazorla capable of releasing the ball so quickly we for once look regularly dangerous on the counter again (at least we did vs Chelski). I think he may go for a Xhaka and Elneny partnership vs Basel, just to keep young Santi’s legs fresh. Not sure who else he’ll change vs Basel.. don’t want to disturb the rhythm… Read more »
Expect to see Ospina start over Cech.
I’d like to see Gibbs get a bit more game time, thought he was excellent against Chelsea when he came on.
You seem to believe that after a draw at PSG we can afford to relax things a little?
I think that’s more a statement than a question?
I believe Basel at home is a lot different to PSG away.
What the media won’t tell you because of their minimal knowledge of the game : Mustafi is clearly a panic buy unlike David Luiz signed on last hours of transfer window for 34m Mustafi was brought in for a number of reasons. One of which was the fact he has been played at Rback, can cover there but crucially is biased right and patrols the area aggressively even at Cback. This allows Bellerin to bomb forward. It in turn allows Walcott to pinch in or (As he did on a number of ocassions) join in the box to add the… Read more »
Hector never ceases to surprise me with his speed and industry. That tackle on Pedro!
His work rate is crazy. Feel so lucky that we have him.
To imagine we got him as make weight for Fabregas! Life!
The 2 best players that day we’re bellerin and awobi. How much did their transfer cost again?
The “Flash”.
Flash! Hector! Saviour of the universe!
Is it bird??…is it a plane??….nope its Hercules…i mean Hector
Gave him a standing ovation for that tackle. Highlight of the season.
Was incredible to watch
Highlight of the season SO FAR…THEOs goal! No question!
There were so many good performances the other day, it’s not possible to single a player out.
However, there were a few key moments, that stands out and Bellarin’s tackle was one of those.
So, pleased with the way the team is shaping up. The next 6-8 game should give a good opportunity to make this work on a regular basis.
If we don’t suffer the same amount of injuries like in the last 6-8 years, then we are in for a pretty good season.
I saw the machine working with my own eyeballpauls and forget great mate it was feckin awesome!! We smashed the feckin chavski cunts at last!! COME ON YOU RIP ROARING REDDDDDS!!!!!
What?? Are you pretending to be me?? We sure did smash them feckin chav cants!! Bring on BASIIIIIL!!! And a TOWERING FAWTLESS display. COME ON YOU RIP ROARING REDDDDDDS!!!!!
Ahh, Basil…. Fawltless… see what you did there. Well, as Basil Fawlty himself might say, “he’s from Barcelona..,and he’s not going back !”
Sorry moderators. New phone typed my name in wrong.
Can we sign him up on a ten year contract soon please Wenger. PSG, pep, Barca will be drooling over this kid
Great team performance.Great individual performance by Bellerin he will be the best right back in the world in the coming years so it’s up to Arsenal to become the best team in the world to keep him at the club.
I can’t think of a single Rightback that i would replace him with right now
Isn’t it funny how the silly Bunt Allerdyce has got a big nob of his own chewing gum stuck to one of his flappers
