Arsene Wenger has praised Alex Iwobi after the youngster’s excellent performance against Hull City yesterday.
The 20 year old was always a positive force in the attacking third, and created Theo Walcott’s goal with a beautiful backheel for the England man to put the Gunners 2-0 up.
Having picked up an injury on the opening day, Iwobi has now come back into the team and it shows the manager has got some real faith in him, something Wenger was happy to expand on in his post-match comments.
“I started him last year because I’ve seen that there’s something in him that is quality of vision, quality of give and go, of movement,” he said.
“He can break the lines with a pass and individually as well, so there’s a lot in the locker. Overall, he’s only 20 years old so you could see that he has gained in confidence now. He can take people on much more and he has gained power as well.
“It’s interesting what he has done.”
He certainly is an exciting prospect, let’s hope he can continue to contribute in such a positive way.
If only he dabbed after scoring goals then he’d be worth £100m for sure.
Haha. Honestly I love that Man U is having a wonky start to the season (LOVE the last two losses). But I think Pogba is taking a looot of flak for a price tag he’s not actually in control of and a strangely unbalance team too after 3 years of money and tinkering. I would love Pogba in my team, I watched him play many games for both Juventus and France of the highest quality over the last 3 seasons, that’s not hype. But I also think Mourinho is likely to take a great attacking Midfielder and turn him into… Read more »
and some fans want wenger out for giving the iwobis and bellerins etc the opportunity. hope we’re all ready cos its not going to be rosy when wenger finally leaves considering how the club is structured; we are not bayern, barca,or real at least not yet. he’s trying hard to create style and a foundation for the future and we must not let him go in a hurry until that is accomplished. they are some really clueless non football people in the club and mark my word we will struggle bad if we force wenger to leave too soon and… Read more »
If pogba is so good why did fergie dump him. He is not worth shit.
He’s an intelligent boy with great potential but you can tell he’s a proper student of the game. In other interviews I’ve heard him say he tries to find space in the final third like ozil and you could see it when he doesn’t have the ball he’s not just hanging around the touch line like the OX and being uninterested he he passes and moves like I’ve heard young players say rosicky tells them in training to always move and not stand idle the OX needs to learn this. If you are an intelligent player it’s not hard to… Read more »
What I love about his game is he’s always popping up, not shirking the role, and if his finishing was better he could’ve had 3 or 4 this season already
Correct me if I’m wrong, but he seems to have chocolate leg, like Ozil
You are hereby corrected.
I’ll say amen to that.. … Come on you Gunners ?
He’s quality, he has a weird style of running haha. He obvious has his rough edges but he gets stuff done! Pops up available and he has his next move already planned in his head. Tidy for his age. I can’t help But think of the ox and the play makers he has all around him and the fact he does nothing for us. Onwards and upwards!
If he is the reason we let gnarby go, then I say it’s worth it.
He scored a nice goal for Bremen yesterday though. Suspect his departure was more down to himself and his agent wanting a move than Wenger letting him go. Would still have liked to see him instead of the Ox get chances.
Gnarby reminds me of ox when he first burst to scene. If ox is theo version 2, gnarby would be theo version 3….
We didn’t let Gnabry go. He left. We wanted to keep him.
He obviously felt his first team chances were now limited, being behind the likes of Alexis (before this CF conversion), Iwobi, Theo and Ox.
It’s the latter two, Ox in particular, he can feel hard done by. Did you see his goal for Werder?
I went looking at the City game, seeing as a Gunner was involved there, then went looking to see who would be replacing Jack’s quality, and in doing so, was hoping that this player would receive prays from the manager for having achieved the goal of (for now at least) living up to that promise. This also meant that I would have to be critical of both Jack and Iwobi, and this was when I feared a bit for Iwobi, as it is painfully clear, that Iwobi shows similar weaknesses as a player, in that he is not known for… Read more »
bro what are you talking about?
Yeah, stay off the JD
He looks seriously good, especially when compared to our other attacking players of a similar age. Alexis and Ozil certainly seem to trust and enjoy playing with him, which can be nothing but a good sign. Let’s hope he can keep it up! Exciting.
Definitely looks like one that will fulfill his potential much more so than Walcott, Chamberlin, Wilshere have with the potential they displayed at 20 years old (though of course there is still time for Ox and Wilshere). What’s so impressive to me (in addition to all mentioned above) is his strength physically to battle challenges at such a young age (which usually takes a few more years for young players to develop fully).
He does seem a bit lost at times defensively, but that will come with experience, it’s certainly not for lack of effort.
Can’t remember last time I was this excited about one of our young talents. Truly a diamond in the rough.
Gnabry? When he broke through?
Bellerin?
In all honesty I don’t see Bellerin as a ‘youngster’ anymore, largely due to guaranteed starting place and maturity
I’m pretty stoked about Bellerin.. Unless he doesn’t count because he started at La Masia. But definitely Iwobi as well.
Hope he fulfills the promise that he has shown so far. Brilliant to watch!
The most impressive thing about him so far is that he’s been consistent.
He’s had quiet games but not really bad games which is the usual issue with young players.
Hope he’s got that mental toughness to see his potential fulfilled. Ox, Walcott and Wilshere all looked great when breaking through but hasn’t really progressed as we’d like. Two of them seem a mental issue to me (Ox and Theo), whereas Jack is his inability to stay fit. All the best Iwobi!
Iwobi-Wan is strong in the force!
Big ups iwobi… what is actually wrong with the ox? Bn consistently awful
Football intelligence. He’s got it.
He reminds me a lot of Hleb with the way he moves and handles the ball but luckily isnt allergic to shooting ??
I was commenting at how nice it was that he would go ahead and take a shot from a touch farther out – he was the most likely to, actually. I hope that doesn’t get pounded out of him because that unpredictability is important. And so are rebounds ala the PSG goal, and off of Theos shot in this match – 2 rebounds, 2 goals for Alexis, Iwobi shot deflected, goal for Alexis.
and the rolled down socks
To be fair, Wilshire showed that promise in abundance prior to his injuries so let’s keep the lad off the pedestal and give him a chance!
The above are spot on however – he is cracking to watch!
What does it mean when you are being moderated, beginning to feel special, moderately though, a little bit of potential that has great possibilities.
.
It means they think you may be some kind of perv
Let’s hope he does a bellerin year.
The boy is good, but we need to manege him well. He should be used sparingly to avoid injuries that hinder most of arsenal youngsters.
Says a lot how Iwobi has come through and has no overtaken Ox.
He is impressing at 20,let us hope he will be £150 at 25.That is what i can say about him.
Think it would be good if we could play him as the 10 and give mesut a rest, iwobi was much more involved in the middle than he was on the wing anyway!
If we had joel campbell at the right wing and alex iwobi on the left, believe me alexis would have scored a hattrick am preety sure of that.
from what i see in him, he will only grow to be better. he has the footballing maturity at a young age.
Yeah, forgot about Bellerin. He’ll be world class within a couple of years for sure. Hoping to see similar development with Iwobi.
He certainly has a very interesting way of playing. Fantastic awareness, slightly ungainly style of running with his arms on both sides (kind of like Sterling), excellent ball control. I think Ox can take a page from him in being effective on the last touch. Again I hate to see all the criticism on the Ox because I think he is trying very hard and he is by and large doing a lot of good things on the pitch. In any case what Iwobi represents is the better foundation Wenger has put in place since he realised the Denilson generation… Read more »
Iwobi is incredible
Very bright player. That’s he’s most intriguing attribute, his intelligence. The last player his age we had that had that level of intelligence was probably fabregas.
For that reason I can see him going far, real far.

Wenger telling Iwobi ” don’t be the greatest winger that ever lived”
Iwobi just seems to have a knack for always making the right decision. Whereas ozil always plays it safe, Sanchez is a turnover machine, Walcott dribbles it out of bounds and giroud falls on his arse, it sure is refreshing to have someone like iwobi in the front 3
he obviously wants to better his uncle, jay jay okocha and he will.
In as much as Watford did a good job.I must say they simply spoilt the bet.
Iwobi is very energetic. He needs to play every game if fit.
