Olivier Giroud says he’s determined to build on his two-goal salvo at Sunderland after fully recovering from the toe injury that has bothered him since the start of the season.
The France international came off the bench to steer the Gunners to a 4-1 victory at the Stadium of Light and is now expected to earn more game time on Tuesday when Arsenal take on Bulgarian side Ludogorets in Champions League matchday four.
Stressing that he hasn’t questioned his own ability during his time on the sidelines, Giroud also played up the benefits of the boss having a variety of attacking options.
“In every big club you have a lot of good strikers with different qualities,” said the striker.
“We can play together, we can play as lone strikers and we can play up front with each other as well.
“The team has played very well at the start of the season but it’s cyclic and I hope to come back by working hard in training. I’m happy as long as we win. We have a very good team cohesion and I’m not questioning myself too much. I’m just focused on the team.
“I just need to play and play more and, in training, show that I’m in good form. That’s what I tried to bring to the team when I came on against Sunderland. I tried to help the team get back in the game because it was 1-1 and we needed the win, so fortunately, I was in the right position to finish.
“I feel good on the pitch you know, my injury is now behind me and I want to work now. I want to focus on the next stage of the Champions League and another big game on Sunday. I’m just concentrating on what I have to do on the pitch and my time will come.”
Giroud’s brace at the weekend takes his total tally in an Arsenal shirt to 84, just seven behind Theo Walcott who misses the trip to Bulgaria with a tight hamstring.
If both players can demonstrate their current form throughout the rest of the season they could be Arsene Wenger’s third and fourth centurions, after Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.
84. Not too shabby at all sir.
I think Giroud has been a great striker for us. I feel however he needs to be rotated properly. His form is always great after being rested/returning back from injury, but seems to wane after months of back to back games till exhaustion. Hopefully now with our extended striking options this won’t be an issue any more. I want him to keep proving the critics wrong!
It feels good to have the HFB back. I can’t think of many other current Arsenal players who deserve to rack up a hundred goals as much as Olive.
Handsome Fucking Bastard?
Handsome French Bloke!
Hair-fuck-bonjour
This man even has a beautiful mind! Olivier Marvellous Giroud ?????
Lol!
i usually hold a spiteful chip on my shoulder for guys who are far more handsome and wealthy than me, but i can’t think of another player as decent as giroud who’s been questioned so often and loudly and, just generally, taken a ton of shit from all sides. the french fans who boo giroud cos benzema tried to help extort one of their teammates are morons. the fact he doesn’t go all yaya ‘why-don’t-you-love-me?’ toure shows good character.
Na na na na na Giroud
Just watch… Sanchez could sneak in as 3rd Centurion D:
Centurions.. I missed that cartoon ._.
If by centurion you mean players who score 100 goals, I am definitely sure Van Persie is the 3rd centurion.
No he is not. He scored 96 goals for arsenal.
No he scored 132 according to arsenal.com http://www.arsenal.com/history/club-records/goalscoring-records
..Also Ian Wright?
Please someone educate me. Did anyone ever score 2 goals with their first two touches before Giroud did?
I remember the announcers saying something about it not having been done in the Premier League since 1998. I don’t remember who, though.
Neither do we big guy. Neither do we.
While I hope that both Walcott and Giroud do hit 100 goals – and sooner rather than later! – I’m just going to leave this here…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arsenal_F.C._records_and_statistics#Top_goalscorers
Past centurions under Wenger – Wright, Henry, Bergkamp, van Persie
Future centurions under Wenger – Walcott, Giroud, Sanchez (and maybe more)
Has any top flight manager in England ever had that many centurions at one club?
