Ox returns to England fold

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate has named Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott in his Three Lions squad for forthcoming World Cup qualifiers with Malta and Slovakia.

The Ox returns to the squad having missed out on selection for Fat Sam’s one and only game in charge. Jack Wilshere, despite playing regularly for Bournemouth since moving to the Cherries on loan, has not been given the nod.

The squad will report to St. George’s Park on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday’s game at Wembley against Malta. England will then travel on to Ljubljana, where they face Slovenia on Tuesday 11 October.

The squad

Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Torino, loan from Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Stoke City), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Michail Antonio (West Ham United), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

Arthritic Knee

It’s SLOVENIA.

CB

Shame, keep them out of England and they’ll be more motivated with time to rest.

gooner

You have to feel sorry for England.

And I mean Rooney not Ox

Matt

Ox to the national team?? On the back of such brilliant performances maybe?……

Andy Mack

Don’t complain. He could get a hat-rick against either (or both) of those teams and return to us full of confidence and hitting form (finger crossed).

MeSoHornsey

Wilshire must be gutted. By most accounts, apart from the horror miss yesterday his form has been returning for the Cherries.

Dier is out, Lallana got a knock yesterday so can’t see why he wouldn’t be next in line when all you have is fucking Rooney, Alli and Henderson to choose from.

loose_cannon

Southgate recalled Glen Johnson. Glen. Johnson. I think that says it all really

OD

Not sure Ox has done much to warrant selection. I guess it’s the potential

Jagger

Ox lucky to be included. But the number of speedy forwards Southgate has included instead of playmakers does hint what the style will be. England DNA indeed.

Granit(e) hard!

I agree. Add the very pacy full backs and some pacy midfielders that he has selected in the mix and you surely can guess the kind of football he wants to play. I am certainly looking forward to how this plays out because if he can pull it off, in his care taking games, playing this kind of pacy attractive football, i think he should get the job…It certainly won’t be boring, with these kind of pacy offensive players in the side, that’s for sure!

P Lydersen

Stop saying pacy.

Gunman

Totally undeserved, but he’s always been more productive in an England shirt.

Antispuds returns

They both should be kept out!

High Plains Gooner

Probably meant to select Gibbs.

Arky

Surely better than Glen Johnson.

OneBeatOff

Funny and sad.

Brandon

Take the best 11 out of that player pool and you have a pretty solid mid-table PL team.

santori

Good to see the Ox come back into England fold.

All these negative nonsense about him, remember where Walcott was not 3 -4 matches ago.

Ox is doing a lot of positive things on the pitch. He isn’t getting much joy with his last ball primarily bc I feel he is rushing things a little.

But nothing wrong with his appetite and application. Good hustle for the goal in the end today.

Holding

Ox has been stagnating for quite sometime now. I mean how many times have we called a season. “his season” He is and was clumsy At such a young age I doubt it will leave ever leave him.

DB10**

great if ox gets to play for Eng and gets his form back. cant see him getting into our 1st XI on his current form.

sad for jack though. hope he works hard to get back into the team.

Benkamp

Cant believe rooney is being picked. Its madness, he was good as a striker once but not as a midfielder. Goodness me. That said he might not be in the starting 11, decent squad player I suppose. Well at least hell look good in the qualifiers I guess…..
