Theo Walcott has admitted his frustration at not bagging a hat-trick against Swansea yesterday, but says the most important thing is that the team took the three points in the 3-2 win.
The England man came agonisingly close to taking home the match ball, with two late chances in particular. He saw a shot hit the post and roll across the goal line, and with almost the final kick of the game couldn’t take advantage of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s great work and blasted just over.
Speaking afterwards, he said it was bittersweet, but that the win was the main thing.
“I was disappointed with a couple of chances at the end,” he said, “but when you’re down to 10 men, we had to work really hard today.
“It’s always difficult when you come back from international break. People come back from all parts of the world and you only get a short amount of time to actually train together before you’re at it again.
“But yeah, when you’ve got 10 men in the Premier League it’s not easy, but Swansea, they caused us a lot of problems but when it was 11 men it was quite even to be honest.
“But yeah, a very good three points in the end, definitely when you look at other results today.”
The 27 year old drew praise from Arsene Wenger who is more focused on the goals he’s getting than the ones he’s not.
“He could have had a hat-trick, or even four, because he had another chance from Oxlade-Chamberlain,” said the manager. “But he scored two goals. I think he’s got seven now, that’s quite encouraging.
“He’s much more resilient.”
Yes the fact that a lot of players went for internationals in the last mid week play a bit role here,
Just keep banging them in Theo… If you score 2 and miss three certain goals so be it as long as you score it’s all good.
Liking this new Theo such an upgrade on the old one.
Even when he misses he doesn’t take it personal he just gets on with it.
Coygs
The misses were by no means certain goals. Unlucky with the shot that hit the post, the last chance a hard bouncing pass from the Ox.
exactly, nobody seems to have noticed that the ball bobbled at the last moment~
I noticed. Theo was very unlucky with that. If the ball had rolled flat, he’d have scored for sure. And how unlucky was the one that hit the far post then trickled along the line? A quarter of an inch closer to the centre of the goal and we’d all be celebrating his pinpoint accuracy.
true, that pass from the Ox was a shade too fast. he needs to learn from ozil how to set up somebody.
some guys like it to come fast, like bergkamp. but most dont.
Any slower and the defender would have intercepted that pass. It needed that much pace to be fair
That’s what she said
Walcott’s final miss also hit the crossbar, its not obvious in most angles except the one that’s along the goal line camera.
Ofcourse it would have been even better for him to complete his hatrick.
So much fitter, physically and mentally.
Yeah he bumped of that Amat bloke for his first goal which surprised me!
I feel you Theo. You’re in my fantasy team, so I was almost crying when you hit the woodwork twice and one straight at Fabianski, but I’ll take a brace every week to be honest.
Only worry about missed chances when we don’t win! We might need those two in another game! I think you’ve got your fitness and confidence back after a long injury lay off. You’re gonna be immense with Giroud when hes back! We need you on the pitch together not instead of each other!
I’m loving it Theo! Finally 100% and confident again fit after a bad injury, people forgot that you was flying before you got injured against that massive bowel movement up the rd. Keep the faith people! OOH TO BE….
DAMN MY EDITING SKILLS….
But yeah…. We won
Look uuuuuh, theo didn’t score a hat-trick, but yeah we won the game, even with ten men so its good no?
Who are you and what have you done with the real Theo Walcott?
On second thought, Nevermind and forget that i asked, nothing suspucious here, move along everyone 😛
But it’s Gibbs who roasted the fullback to deliver that pass to walcott, surely?
Good lad…
Should also mention Iwobi. Fantastic skill and feet. Also Ox came on and did a good job. Some excellent runs which almost produced two assists for Theo. This is the sort of dynamism he can bring. But also the maturity to slow the game down when he was on an unsupported run and take it into the corner. We need everyone in the team to be playing at a good level. That goes for Giroud when he comes back. It doesn’t matter if its Coquelin or Granit, we need BOTH to be on top of their game. This is where… Read more »
I remember most of the people here saying sell Walcot until fairly revently, some of them even saying sell him to Westham!!!! How things can change so fast, i hope he keeps doing what hes been doing…
Theo scored the 2 hard ones and missed the 2 easy ones. Other way round and he’s lethal
Theo’s attitude and defensive application is undoubtedly a big difference maker this season. Let’s hope it continues.
Slight change of subject, but – am I the only one keen to see Gibbs start next week? He’s looking great off the bench where as Nacho has looked a bit shaky of late.
