Arsene Wenger has dismissed tedious speculation linking Hector Bellerin with a move away from Arsenal, and says that the club will try and extend his contract.
There have been rumours recently about interest from Man City, but the Frenchman paid them short shrift at his press conference today when asked about the exciting young Spaniard.
Pointing out he still has plenty of time on his current deal, he did say they would ensure his continued progress was matched by his contract.
“He has nearly three years to go and we always try get the players to the level where we think they deserve to be,” said Wenger.
“So we try to extend, certainly, his contract. For me, his long-term future is here. What is important is that a player meets his needs where he is and his values, and I think he integrated very well with the values of our club.
“He came at a very, very young age of 16. I think he is a real Arsenal player.”
The manager was also keen to talk about the 21 year old’s impressive development.
“His progress has been absolutely spectacular because he has top mental strength,” he continued.
“I think he loves as well to be here and he has responsibilities already in the dressing room for such a young age. It’s something remarkable.”
Best news ever. When it’s announced.
My mum loves ‘ector so much that she said, with tears in her eyes (following the 2-0 Bayern home win last season) “He’s like a son to me”.
The son she never had?
You just assumed indrossi’s gender?
Yes I did, I saw an opportunity and I took it.
Excellent! Such an important player for us.
He could finish his career here and be the best right back to have ever played in the Premier League.
I hope Ozil and Sanchez put pen to paper soon!
He wants to stay, the fans love him and his contract will be extended. so f**k off Barca! I have nothing to say to city because they’ve got no chance of taking any of our important players anymore.
Fuck off Barca!
Bellerin is already one of THE best fullbacks in the world… at 21… and he’s OURS!
The best players will always be linked to the big Spanish 2 and other super rich clubs. But I get the sense, from everything he says, that Hector is a Gooner. Long may he be our Spanish Billy Whizz!
“He’s a real Arsenal player” read between those lines Barcelona!
Sign him up Arsene
Good news concerning Hector. Keep the work going lad. COYG
Sign Da Ting
Gunners right back for not less than five seasons.
Brilliant Stuff
He’s got Arsenal DNA so why wouldn’t he stay. He became the player he is at Arsenal not fucking Barca.
Is there a better right back in the world? I’m probably making a glaring oversight somewhere, but I can’t think of another right back that I’d rather have.
I had a drink with Hector, Santi and Nacho after a charity dinner towards the end of last season. They were all so positive about the club, and Wenger. They are a little Spanish club within the club that support each other (it was a charity that Hector is the ambassador for) and it was great to see.
There were small rumblings about needing more upfront and Santi was gutted not to have been able to play half the season but all three of them just love being in London and playing for the Arsenal.
Ole
You lucky b******.
Well these club within club is also by design. For example, secondary consideration of course but both Granit and Mustafi share Albanian roots. They join the Germanic group with Ozil and Per. There is the Spanish group as mentioned plus the latins. Then there is the much smaller Gallic sub group in Gioud, Coquelin, Koscielny, maybe the Jeff. The English core group. Even in terms of religion (I’m not sure how religious they are) but there is a muslim grouping too in Elneny, Ozil, Mustafi, Granit. I think this fosters a positive way of bedding players in and weaving a… Read more »
Agreed. This thinking spreads down to youth team level too, in the Jeff’s case I’m pretty sure signing both him and Yassin Fortune together wasn’t coincidence (a bit like Hector and Jon Toral). That being said, going by social media Jeff’s clearly integrated well with the younger London lads who have come though the ranks recently, Akpom and Iwobi.
I consider myself lucky if I get a one-second glimpse of a player driving by the Tollington after a match. You got to sit down and have dinner with three of them. You lucky @$%$#$%.
He definitely deserves a new contract. Can’t think of a better rb in the Premier League.
True. He was the only Gunner to make last season’s “PL Team of the Year” (only because the journalists ignored Mesut Ozil, tho’).
Rumour has it that Pedro’s still looking over his shoulder, scared Hector’s chasing him down. Hasn’t slept since.
Such good news, Arsene.
Hector is an exciting player and yet still only 21 years old. Loves his Spockney accent!
Pity. I was rather hoping we would help him discover his defective Barca DNA and ship him to the Catalans so the press will have more negative things to write about us.
😉
All those who keep clamouring for Wenger ad tedium to spend money, well he did and wisely.
BUT all these contract extensions coming up also need taking into consideration.
Simply spending in market (usually when at behest of press and certain fans at high prices) doesn’t take into account reality.
Armchair generals of course clearly think they know better as per usual.
Pot kettle black
Future captain , no ?
i love his accent and his speed , would be very happy if his bromance jon toral join the squad too
Would like to know what the situation is with Jon Toral, he’s a really good young player and we hear nothing about him since he was loaned out so suddenly. I was hoping to see him in pre-season at least. Also we need to sign up Santi, he’s in his last year and I wouldn’t like to see him leaving us yet.
Extend his contract promptly please! Delayed action is an exercise in futility. We’ve lost too many players to mancity already. Arsenal was a feeder club to them back when there was financial constraints due to the stadium move. Not anymore and especially not Bellerin!
Hector is a true gooner so hands off Barca and Shitty!!!!!
