Xhaka: Don’t expect goals like that every week

Granit Xhaka’s first two goals for Arsenal, 30 yard rockets within days of each other, have prompted Gunners fans to yell ‘Shooooooooot’ at him every time he’s in the vicinity of the goal.

It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek naturally, but the Swiss international says there’s more to his game than that, and fans shouldn’t expect those kind of strikes every week.

“I’m happy that I’ve scored those two goals,” he told Sky Sports, “but don’t expect me to give that every week.

“What’s most important is that the team play and perform well and that we reach our objectives. We obviously want to have a consistently good season and show the fans that we’re going to give absolutely everything in every game.

“Of course to do that we’re going to need a bit of luck along the way but we’re really going to give our all to have a successful season.”

Having destroyed Chelsea last weekend in the Premier League, Arsenal face Burnley on Sunday and have to show they can deal with all kinds of tests throughout this campaign, something Xhaka is aware of.

“We’re having a really positive phase and that’s something that we’re happy with,” he said.

“We need to do the same against Burnley on Sunday, we need to approach the game in the same way and make sure we go into the international break still in this positive phase.”

Too late! : )

Parth

I’m putting a fiver on him rocketing a shot into the top right corner against Burnley after coming off the bench.

Ljungberg's Pants

I suspect he’ll be starting seeing as Coquelin is injured.

Johnny

Will you be shouting “shoooot” every time he gets close to the box?

new guy

Why wait? I will do so every time he touches the ball.

SB

Burnley is the kind of game that we have in the past turned up expecting to win and put in a stinker of a performance.

So, this will be a good test of how much we are up for the title challenge this year.

Considering how we have been playing the last few games, the players are obviously enjoying playing with each other. So, hope to see them serve up another treat.

Granit(e) hard!

I agree. If they can approach the Burnley game with the same intensity, focus, discipline and efficiency, while still managing to play the attractive, beautiful and expansive football that we all love, then I will begin to believe that the squad has indeed turned a corner…..but I confess its been quite a while that I have been so excited and actually looking forward to watching arsenal play, and long may this feeling continue. Truthfully?….For me In recent months, its been a nail biting see saw ride of holding on to my chair and just hoping the real arsenal turns up… Read more »

Every other week will do.

karis

shooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!

Gunman

He’s basically telling the fans to shut the hell up and stop crying shoot whenever he gets the ball. I couldn’t agree more, it must so annoying.

rohit

I think it must be extremely distracting because your own fans are screaming it and it can be very natural to get influenced once or twice in the game.

It was twenty years ago today,
Arsene Wenger taught our club to play
We’ve been going in and out of style
But we’re guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you:
Arsene Wenger’s brilliant Arsenal team!

Jack4343

While I agree with him, I do like that we have a guy that will give it a go when the other team drop off him so much. We’ve been missing that and it does give the opposition something to think about and can help to split open the defense as they rush to stand him up that far out.

PeteyB

This is so true. I was thinking about this while listening to the Arsecast the other day when they were discussing the element of chaos and imbalance our more fluid ‘front four’ of Alexis, Walcott, Iwobi, and Özil brings.
Xhaka in some ways adds to that potential to generate chaos with these occasional pot shots. Absolutely he shouldn’t be trying them every game but the knowledge that he has that in his locker forces defenders/opposition midfielders to close him down and as you say leaves more gaps for that front four to exploit.

Xxxrob

Agreed, said the same to my mate. Naturally defences try and sit deep or man mark ozil et al, but when you see him in space it gives the opposition that “oh fuck that’s right, this guy can cunt them!” fear. If they charge out at him he’s more than capable of passing to open things up. If they don’t, why not shoot

Ridgrrs

Shooooooot

Carlos_Santana

Yeah but 2 in a row.. C’mon xhaka, you created this Monster..

Bob Davis

Don’t worry son, you keep shooting away!

Been ages since we’ve had a player that can shoot from distance.

zimgooner

this one will go straight to be an invincible. got all the qualities to achieve that.

samba

Granat Xhaka…. booooooom!

AndreQ

How about twice in every game. I wouldn’t mind at all.

Ancient Gooner

Xhaka you are on the pitch; only you can decide when the opportunity is afforded for you to produce the long range shot which we all love so much and admire. However, you have raised our expectations,so do us a favour and create those opportunities and take them, so that we do not have to shout shoooooooooooot!
Good luck.

Arctic Marauder

I hope he doesn’t get distracted and shoots when he can and not just when the fans shouts “shoot”. It might scare the oppossition, but the biggest threat is the way it distracts his game. Very tedious and unnecassary in that case.

The Wizard of Oz(il)

Why not? I don’t see the problem here… Just blast on or teo per game, we won’t mind if he misses and does everything else right.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

It is really stupid of fans calling him to shoot every time he touches the ball, the can destrupt his play and decision making. They really need to stop doing that !

Evan

Sorry Xhaka, we should also highlight your passing, tackling, and general midfield stature as well as your distance shooting. You complete me.

santori

SHOOOOT! 😀 Not a bad panic buy and an early one. Mustafi too considering SideshowBob at Chelsea came in last minute but was considered by press as a stroke of genius.;) Wenger has been excellent again in market. Some clueless individuals like to voice their”Opinions” and spout rubbish. I’ve heard rubbish like Wenger can’t build a defense or buy defenders. Kolo Toure? Sol Campbell? Metersecker? Mustafi? Koscielny? What these people need is a bit of humility. Before you unfold some cheap banner to poison the atmosphere again, remember you were wrong about Coquelin. You were wrong about Campbell and Dick… Read more »

another thing that irritates me is how little people understand how the transfer market works. Firstly, not everything is in our control. The buying and selling clubs may come to some sort of agreement but the player and agent may drag things o. Therefore just because its late in window does not necessarily mean it is a panic buy (unless you are the facile press) or that we were incompetent in market. We have not been. 1) Granit was signed very early on. No bleating on about how much good work we did before the window to beat other big… Read more »

Danny Ragu

You’ve made your bed. Shoooot!

David Omogo

Hahahaaaaa, I can’t stop laughing. It seems that some fans are about to call him Mr shoot??
