Despite rumoured interest from Man City and some DNA hoo-ha from Barcelona, Hector Bellerin says the only thing that interested him was extending his time at Arsenal.
The Spanish international’s new deal was confirmed today, his long-term future is secure, and he told the official site that at no point did he think about leaving.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything else other than staying here and continuing my development,” he said.
“This is where I’m happy. I’m just very grateful and pleased to have signed.”
He also spoke about the values he perceives are necessary to be an Arsenal player, and what he hopes to achieve in the years to come through hard work.
“Arsenal is not only about being a footballer, you have to be a good person to play here,” he continued, marvellously having wiped the existence of Samir Nasri from his mind.
“That’s what everyone transmits inside the club. You represent more than just a football club.
“I’m a player who tries to be an example for everyone, not just on the pitch but off it as well.
“Now I’ve just got to keep on progressing, keep working hard to be the best player I can be, and hopefully help the team to be where its got to be, to win some silverware.
“That’s what everyone wants and that’s what I’m working towards.”
Bellerin has made 86 appearances and scored 3 goals since making his debut against Sheffield Wednesday West Brom in the Capital One Cup in September 2013.
BellerIN FOR 6 MORE YEARS
SEHR NETT NACHRICHTEN… CONGRATULATIONS TO HECTOR AND BEST OF LUCK
Not convinced by Jenkinson. He is technically limited. Without Bellerin, we lack offensive threat on the right which has detriment to Walcott’s effectiveness (as he has to track back more to cover Jenko) Personally, I feel Wenger should have kept Calum and reverted him to Rback which was his natural and effective position with Soton. Why bother converting him to Cback? We have HOlding developing who looks excellent, Gabriel and Mustafi have many years left. In absence of Chambers, Debuchy is probably a betterplayer than Jenko but its a bit of a toss up. At least with Jenko you know… Read more »
I’m sorry but I disagree completely. Jenkinson, for me, is the obvious second choice. He’ll never be as good as Bellerin but with him you get 100% commitment. He’s played a grand total of three matches since his return from almost a year out with injury, and hasn’t exactly played badly in any of them (he seemed quite nervous at Old Trafford but overall did ok I thought). He’s also proved in the past that he’s a tidy enough crosser of the ball. Not good enough to be first choice but as back up I’ll happily take him. Chambers showed… Read more »
That was pretty much his first or second match against premier league competition in about a year’s time and he had a tough matchup vs. a quick Anthony Martial.
Jenko defended decently, overall and made some very good tackles to put the ball out of play on the end line. I don’t recall him getting roasted wide.
No one should expect him to come back and immediately displace Hector. You’re living in a dream world if you do.
Keep in mind that United’s goal came from the left with Herrera’s cutback pass to the top of the box.
Based on Debuchy’s last few outings for us, I think it’s highly debatable that he’d be considered higher quality than Jenkinson.
Monreal and Ramsey were much worse than jenko at defending at the weekend. He put in the effort and didnt do anything stupid. Happy with him being 2nd choice.
Jenko’s got better wing play and crossing, notably more speed, and a better engine for getting up and down the flanks than Chambers. Chambers is better suited to CB in my opinion. You’ve got to have the recovery speed to track those wing runners the way we play. Debuchy’s out of the frame, so to me it’s Jenko #2, and Maitland-Niles will be pushing him for that 2nd spot in the next couple of years unless one leaves. I don’t know how you convince a player of higher quality to come in to be Hector’s backup, especially with how many… Read more »
GOONER!
What a lovely boy he is. So mature and down to earth for someone so young and with so much talent.
We love you Hector.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS LAD
That’s great news. I would’ve been gutted if we lost him.
Definitely some talent knocking about the academy. I wonder who’s next to burst into the1st team and stay there.
Amazing news! He must have seen other players go a few years ago, then suffer from missing that magic mix there is at The Arsenal.
Totally in love with our speedy Gonzales. Shirt number change for next season. HB2!
Héctor will have earned £35m by the time he’s 27, what a geeze
35mil from his Arsenal contract alone. Then there’s all the add-ons – advertising etc.
No wonder he’s happy.
He will definitely earn more than that…in a few years the contract will be reviewed…that’s what you deserve when you have your head screwed on. Very smart kid..he’s only 20 and you listen to his interviews, you know he got education…unlike #wannabeAdebayor!!!
“If I wanted to play there, would have stayed”,”Arsenal gave me the opportunity”,”i feel like this is my home”~Hector Bellerin….Best right back in the world…Transfer worth:£92m…guess worth? at that price, not up for sale in no certain terms!!!!
We love you Hector
